Hurricane's Grill & Bar - Darling Harbour Ratings and Reviews
I really enjoyed the pork ribs and sweet potato chips, but service from the staff was not satisfactory. They grabbed out plates and cultery as soon as we picked the last piece of ribs without asking! We felt like they were trying to kick us out. I also booked a table for two around 3 weeks ago and asked for window seats but they didn't, so I asked the manager and he said as they busy and that's why we need to sit on the corner of the restaurant.
We were seated quickly, staff were attentive but did not hover. We all chose something different. When our meals arrived we were treated to huge portions of delicious food. We all left feeling content and not one of us had food envy! We will be back and look forward to a Hurricane opening in Melbourne soon!!
Food was great, and we got a table with a good view of Darling Harbour. It was a very thoughtful gesture of the restaurant to provide an activity paper and crayons for children to keep them occupied (definitely 2 thumbs up for this initiative!). However, the heater was slightly too hot on a night that wasn't too cold (we felt we were being roasted!), and it took a while for us to get the bill. Overall, we were extremely satisfied.
I had the mushroom burger which was one of the specials. Burger was delicious but the fries weren't salted or seasoned at all, so I spiced them up with a sauce.
Other than that, the menu looked really nice with a large selection of food. The only thing that I disliked was the large amount of noise and sitting near the kitchen probably didn't help - made it feel like a very hectic environment.
Other than that, great restaurant for an energetic vibe and catch-up with friends environment.
I was kept waiting for more than an hour even though I made a reservation.
When crowded, staff at the entrance, troublesome Japanese were postponed.
And lonely, as children sit on the floor, the leader prepared a chair.
Later, we were able to get to the table relatively quickly.
After that, even to me who is not good at English, we offered lots of service and delicious meals.
The staff of the floor also used care more carefully, and additional dishes were immediately handled, so it seemed like the education was well-ordered.
At first, if the correspondence of the two staffs at the entrance was good, the dinner at Sydney was the best, but waiting for an hour made me sorry.
had rib medley, terrible presentation. why give only small side salad with family serve of ribs, hate to see what smaller serve offers.
barmaid did not know what a scotch was or crown larger nor could we get any answer if they sold bottled water as the warm tap water was very ordinary
all in all, yes, you pay a lot of money for your location ( as 4 chicken wings $20. that size you would get 9 in a kilo and you would pay around $2.50 per kilo)
at the end of the day I'd be reluctant to go back.
We booked for 6:00 and only had to wait a few minutes. Our table had a great view of Darling Harbour. The food was great, my Wife had the Lamb Cutlets and I the Steak and Rib combo, the steak was cooked well and the ribs were delicious. I was dissapointed in that I was unable to order the sweet potato fries, as I was recommended them, I felt it was odd that a popular side such as this was not available early on a Sunday night. Otherwise the experience was very positive, will definitely return.
A very disappointing experience. Wait staff were under the pressure of the high volume of customers - clearly a place that attracts lots of walk ins. Unfortunately, this showed. We were delayed in getting to our table.
The restaurant was very noisy - made conversation at what was meant to be a special occasion almost impossible. Being seated in close proximity to the bar was a problem - bar staff need to learn the way to dispose of a bottle is to place it in the bin and not throw it.
Gave Hurricane's a go because it seemed more reasonably priced compared to the premium steakhouses but the $50 or $60 saved was not worth the poor/fair experience.
Won't be returning. Will be going back to Steerson's and paying extra for a proper dining experience.
Unfortunately this time visiting hurricane's grill we were very disapointed.
We left a comment on our online booking that we needed space for a pram and we had to place our pram in a walkway to the toilets, there was also another pram next to us which blocked the walkway even further.
We were not offered table water but had glasses for it.
The pork ribs were extreamly tough.
We were not offered wet ones lucky I had some in my nappy bag.
We felt like we were being rushed out.
We are so grateful to our friends who recommended Hurricane's Grill to us. By far our best dining experience whilst in Sydney. Food was absolutely delicious, service fantastic and location just beautiful! Bring your appetites and Hurricane's will take care of the rest.
Our family of 5 spent unfortunately our last evening in Sydney at this restaurant. It was a rainy and chill evening and we sat back in the restaurant were it was quite cold. We ordered fillet of tenderloins and ribs. The fillets came approximately 10 minutes before the ribs and when we finally received our ribs they were only slightly warm. The service was terrible and we had to ask 4 times before we received our drinks. We had eaten half of the meat before we got our wine. Not worth a visit!!!
My first impression on walking through the door was this place is feral. Very busy, tables crammed together, dirty tables, food on the floor, in hindsight we should have walked back out but we didn't unfortunately. When our food arrived we were all very disappointed, at first the presentation let it down, not even a little side salad for decoration. The ribs were just warm and the steak had no taste. This is a fairly expensive restaurant, comparable in price to I'm Angus at Cockle Bay Wharf but certainly not comparable in anything else. My recommendation would be if you want good steak and ribs at Darling Harbour go to I'm Angus not Hurricanes!
Restaurant has a nice location but not directly on the harbor, in a mall looking over it. People we interacted with there were nice (as in all of Sydney). It was jammed with customers and noisy. The food wasn't that good--the baked potatoes came under-cooked, the calamari didn't have much taste, and my overall bill was as expensive as at much better restaurants I went to in Sydney.
The only reason I go is for the Ribs. I had been to Hurrincanes few years back and the Lamb Ribs were delicious to die for, however last night was poor. The lamb ribs had very little meat and were not coated in the sauces much. Very dry and tasted like old meat. My friend had the 3 ribs combo and within few hours was very sick and ended up with gastro. She too said her meat was dry and didn't feel right.
Based on other people's reviews, I had high expectations for this place. We thought the food was as ok. Certainly did not have the best ribs or steak we ever had and outdoor dining views were not that great. While service was good, it felt rushed. I can't recommend this place as one of the best in Sydney.
