Great food, great service, affordable pricing, casual taqueria-style service where you may drop in for a quiet bite and move on, or stay for a full meal. The prime focus of the restaurant is Tostadas, with Tacos playing second fiddle. Think seafood, both raw and cured (ceviche/aguachile). It is fresh and simple produce served in a fast paced environment. And all tortillas are made in house, a Melbourne first!
Hotel Jesus is located in the old Collingwood post office building in Smith Street and inspired by the traditional ’70s-style taquerias and tostaderias of Mexico. Taqueros, the taco masters of Mexico City, are the main attraction.
Amazing service, friendly staff, great atmosphere and delicious food..all you need is the fabulous friends and you have a brilliant time.
Service was great, staff were attentive and knowledgeable. Didnt feel like we were being pushed out early for the next sitting. Food was amazing. Chef knows his stuff and nothing is hidden with the cooking open to the bar. Cant wait to come back.
Delicious food, magnificent Marguerita I’ll be back!
Really great experience. The food was great & our hostess was phenomenal. Would highly recommend Hotel Jesus
The venue is very hip but the food choice is very limited. We didn't really enjoy the food. The metal seats were very uncomfortable and cold.
Great choices on the “Feed Me” menu. Quirky atmosphere !
The staff could not have been more accommodating, and the food was fabulous. Thoroughly enjoyable!!
Incredible food!!!!! Great staff!! And the restaurant atmosphere and set-up is awesome!!
Loved all the dishes we had! But my favourite was the snapper ceviche tostada. Fresh, vibrant and just the right amount of acidity.
Food was excellent! The flan was amazing and I don't even drink coffee. Service was great.
Although three smaller dishes were tasty, the broccoli dish was burnt and unseasoned and the roast veggies on the main dish were undercooked. My sister and I ordered mocktails as neither of us were drinking alcohol, yet we were served actual cocktails, which we drank and didn’t realise until the bill came. We weren’t asked how our meal was until the bill was brought to our table, which didn’t give us an opportunity to chat about any of these issues before we paid. Overall, I didn’t feel that the meal was value for money. Although I appreciate the fitout of the restaurant!
Very disappointed. The seafood was horrendous. Octopus was rubber and the crab had no meat. The salad that was part of the banquet was very strange tasting. And not something I would go back for. $250 for 3 people is excessive and $20 for a margarita also a little excessive. Won’t recommend or go back to this place.
Good for Sunday lunch - not too crowded but service and food excellent. Noise level also just right . We could easily have a conversation.
Thank you so much for your beautiful hospitality, especially with particular dietary requirements. This is my second time where I brought 5 friends who were all raving about your food afterwards. Will definitely be back soon!!
Fantastic modern Mexican restaurant in bustling Collingwood! Sensational food complimented by terrific service. Highly recommend this place for a wonderful meal.
Fantastic food and service - great vibe and an all-around beautiful dinner - very satisfied!!
Great food and flavours. Good margarita that was not exhorbitantly priced. Will be back
Have not been here for a while. It looks tired, the menu has been cut down. The Mexican beer with salsa and prawn (sounds weird but was awesome) has gone, Mexican coke gone, no corn at lunch?, and the vibe has gone. The food was nice, but they have not added anything new to give it life. The food we did have was tasty and good quality, but the ‘x’ factor has gone.
The staff at Hotel Jesus were incredible. They had immense knowledge of the food and drinks menu and took us on an unexpected learning experience. Thanks so much for the amazing service.
It was a great experience. Food was authentic Mexican. Would definitely go back again. They used to have the “feed me” option for lunch, it would be great to bring it back.
Really tasty Mexican food that is different from the normal fare served up around Melbourne. Very casual atmosphere, great cocktails, would definitely dine again.
Incredible food, fun atmosphere. The walk to the bathroom is arduous yet exciting
I don’t live in Melbourne but visited last year and have been thinking about the corn dish since then. I have recommended to a few people visiting Melbourne to go try Hotel Jesus. Very good atmosphere and food.
Great vibe and good drinks list. Yummy starters. Friendly attentive staff. Only down side was that our soft shell crab taco larger plate was a bit bland.
Great and tasty Mexican food! The ceviche AMAZING!
Great food and atmosphere. Some staff were really nice but some treated you like you were an inconvenience. All in all, come for the good food, not he friendly service.
I had an unpleasant experiences with Hotel Jesus. I made a reservation for table of 14 on last Saturday night at 6.30pm for my birthday The dining time limit was 2 hours. Almost all of my guest came on time. However, the first 1.5 hours we only being served with few entree and the main course only served at 8pm. After 10 mins, the waitress came to me and said they will need to clear the table in 20 mins. That’s why we had to quickly eat the main course and the waitress only brought the birthday cake to us in the last 5 mins and told us to leave as soon as we took the photos . This is totally unexpected in hospitality industry. We don’t even have the time to eat the cake and force to leave ! We spent about $500+++ on that night and we expected to have a great dining experiences. I understand it was peak hours but hotel Jesus already expected for our arrival 1 week earlier and even know which banquet menu we go for, at least you should prepare our food earlier or priorities us. Overall, the food is not worth of the value and the time management should be improve.
Hi Daphne, thanks for your multiple reviews and return email. After going through the CCTV footage and point of sale we have noted many discrepancies between the alleged timings of your meal. Unfortunately we cannot offer you and your guests a free dinner as you've requested and we wish you all the best.
Food was next level. Service wasn't. Took at least 10 minutes for someone to realise we had arrived before giving us menus so we were quick to order. Food came out fast and it was amazing. When we'd finished, we decided we'd have another drink before we had to leave at 3pm. Unfortunately, there wasn't anyone to be seen to be able to order anything. We noticed another table had to get up to go and get their own plates/cutlery. I'd emailed earlier in the week about a birthday surprise for our friend but we had to leave because of somewhere else we had to be. Pretty disappointing to be honest.
Amazing food, fun ambience - will definitely be back!
Great food, and the vibe was so cool. Love it, will be back for sure.
Great decor and retro vibes, friendly staff but the food is so overpriced and small portions
It is in my top 3 favourite Mexican restaurants, I have been there couple of times. However, this time it was a bit disappointing, we booked a table at 5:30pm, we arrived 5:26pm, the door was opened so we came in, one of the staff (looked like the manager) was a bit rude and asked us to leave because they open at 5:30.
It is fair enough that they don’t want to have people inside before 5:30, I just think there are better ways to ask for it or keep the door closed.
The food was nice and the waitress very polite and helpful.
Great food amazing drinks, groovy decor. Service a little hard to make eye contact sometimes though. But super friendly when you finally got their attention.
Excellent Mexican food at a price the won’t break the budget. Servings were generous - the ceviche tostada was a winner on a hot day - and the fit-out with its mismatched tiles just added to the experience.
Amazing. Super tasty. Fresh. 2 items came out a bit late but they were apologetic and gave us our appetiser for free because of it. Would stay at this hotel again.
For an authentic taste of Mexico, this is your place.
Who would have thought brussels sprouts would be our favourite dish? Seriously, they're so tasty. As is everything else that we've tried. Thanks!
Delicious food and cocktails. We come here every time we are in Melbourne and twice in one week this trip.
having just come back from Mexico was always going to be a very harsh critic. the fit out is very cool, light bright and airy with some very quirky decoration and a nice view of the kitchen, it is bit "echoy" though. the food was on the whole very good and pretty authentic. the refried beans were delicious as was the corn with the black mayonnaise, great tostados but the guacamole was a bit tricked for me. The tuna sashimi tostadas were delicious outlooked abut scary as the tun was in one quite large piece, tasted divine though!
we were a bit disappointed with tacos al pastor the pork was a little dry. Blackened chicken quesadilla was very good and very filling.
service was superb. We were advised the wine list was changing and the albarino we picked wasn't available but we were offered two options one of which was a sauvignon blanch which we were very afraid but were very pleasantly surprised, good value too. Overall very good but not Mexico in Melbourne just yet!
Loved the eclecticism of the restaurant the food was divine & sensational flavours , service attentive & great atmosphere. Highly recommend!!
