Celebrating my daughter’s birthday was fun here. Good
Food and drink. Nice room and convenient. Try it!
This review is not about our dining experience because we left. We showed up on time for a Valentine’s Day reservation only to be told that there was a 45 minute to an hour wait because they had more reservations than tables. They blamed the delay on the fact that I made reservations online. That is poor management on their part.
The food here is excellent, there is no doubt, but the service... after several years in business they still have not figured out how to manage a crowd. The waitress was very nice and pleasant, but the kitchen was abysmally slow and my order was incorrect - I ordered a soup from the specials menu for a starter and it never came, even after the waitress "asked the kitchen about it twice". (I'm not sure how that is possible - isn't a soup always on the stove in the kitchen ready to go? Doesn't even need prep, just ladle and serve.) The people at the front desk were clueless as well. Unfortunately, we will not return.
Worst dining experience ever! After waiting 30 mins for our reservation, we waited 90 mins for food to come which it never did. Got 2/3 entrees to go after waiting another 30 minutes. Left without the $30 pork chop that we paid for and no one cares. Everyone expects slow service on a holiday but this was ridiculous!! Not a word from manager!! Shameful.
Not enough servers on for Valentine’s Day. Not her fault but she was too busy to be attentive.
Oysters were small and without taste. Food quality / flavor was very basic for the price.
Service overall was horrible - waited an hour for entree with little apologies. Couldn’t even get server to come back to pay so left paying cash. Will not return.
They seemed surprised by the turnout on Valentines Day... despite the reservations. Lucky that we had an early reservation but still had an epic wait for main plate. My wife’s Arctic Char was cold but she opted to just eat a small bit, figuring that the wait to replace it would be even worse.
My friends arrived as we were leaving. They gave up after 2 1/2 hours waiting for dinner and just took it to go.
A shame as they normally do quite the job. My wife is dead set against returning.
We loved the restaurant. The food was so delicious. We would recommend and will go back again.
Pro:. Artic char was very good. Polite and friendly server.
Con: Over an hour to get the main course. Beer menu was inaccurate. Dry chicken. Tough broccoli rabe.
Ordered the HNT burger and asked for it medium. It showed up well done. Ordered a second one, it showed up well done. Enjoyed the f
Excellent new chef and menu (delicious)!! Awesome staff and management!
It was ok-the food was nothing spectacular. My husband ordered prime rib -it was very fatty. Mashed potatoes were very heavy. I had grilled chicken in my salad-the chicken was but well seasoned.
This is a very stylish place. You don't find this often. The food is certainly not haute cuisine, but the management and wait staff are very accommodating. It is more than worth a test drive. I recommend it.
The duck was succulent, the Atlantic Char sublime, the service: Impeccable.
Great staff, amazing food, great ambience.. what more can you want?
Horseneck use to be our go-to place but unfortunately they changed their menu and there are no longer any vegetarian entrees. We were told they have a new chef. All of our previous favorites that kept us coming back are off the menu. In addition they charge you $4 for the previously complimentary bread basket-tacky! We use to dine there at least once a month but will not be back too soon.
Disappointed that they had a prefix menu amd called me 15 minutes before my reservation to advise me of such. They should have let me know when the reservation was placed. Cost me $350 with tip. Also, never got the champagne toast that was discussed. Very disappointed that I was trapped on New Years eve and had no other options that late in the day.
new menu is a little limited. a tavern needs burgers. also new menu no tuna tartar which was excellent. if ur going to have limited menu then need more specials. I'll try once more to see if there are any changes. I really liked this place and went at least once or twice a month but am on the fence now about going back. Change is good but sometimes it goes to far for the regulars.
Delicious and different menu - very creative. Definitely will keep coming back.
Maybe just an off night, but various issues. My wife ordered a margarita and couldn't drink it. I tasted it and I don't know what it was but it didn't taste like any margarita I've had. She ordered a glass of wine instead. (we were not credited for the cost of the margarita). They brought out a different salad than what was ordered by my wife and her friend. They replaced the salads but as they were being eaten, the ladies noticed that their salads did not include beets, which was in the description. They ate the salads anyway and mentioned it to the server, just so the kitchen staff should know for the next order. On the positive side, my Italian braised beef dish was delicious and cooked perfectly and the shared appetizers (rice balls and calamari), were also very good. The atmosphere was comfortable and cozy, especially seated in one of the nice booths lining one side. I wanted to like this place more and without those issues, I surely would have. I would give it another chance.
We were a party of 4. The 2 who ordered the salmon were very happy with their meal. One had the short rib sandwich which was OK. The 4th had the flat iron steak which was a big disappointment. 5 slices of steak with a sprinkle of lettuce for $30. They were quick to tell us that there will be a new chef and new menu next week. Still deciding if it is worth a trip back to see the results.
I just want to say that the staff was very accommodating, quick & friendly. I had a filet mignon and it was delicious. The music was good. It was a very energetic crowd. Overall the experience was great. I would come with my friends again and would recommend the Horseneck to others. Thank you,
Great food, great vibe. Live acoustic music on Saturdays is amazing. Waitstaff is very attentive and friendly. Love coming here—will come back many more times!
Birthday celebration. I reserved a high top by the bar confirmed it twice the day of. when we arrived the hostess told us there was a private party and they could only give us a booth. We sat at the bar instead. The high tops were r even occupied and we were there til closing. We go here often love the food music and the bartenders are the best!!!
This used to be our go to place. Went weekly. Great menu, fantastic service and lovely atmosphere. Then they changed the chef and slashed the great menu. All of the favorites were removed and replaced with 8-10 choices. Tried it a couple of times for dinner and brunch but it was not good. Had brick chicken, over salted and strangely bland. Brunch was limited - no egg dishes? Had steak; fatty and tough. Advice to owners would be rethink this. You had a great business, won’t be back for a while. Hope they sort it out. Was such a favorite. Not so much now.
I have been going to Horseneck since it reopened after it's original incarnation as Desi's. For the longest time felt that both the service and the value were outstanding, but the last few times I have been there, the4 prices seemed to have jumped exponentially, and the service was ok, but clearly the young server did not know her food, or her menu.....
Our first visit to the tavern did not disappoint. The salads we had were outstanding and our appetizers served as our entrees. More than generous. It’s a little pricey but high quality and very attentive service. The patio was delightful and not very noisy.
We thought our waitress Sarah was exceptional.. I’ll be back. Susan Haberman
I found the food a bit high priced for the quality. There was no side dish plated with the main course and the main was $30. Then the side cost $8. Nearly $40 for a smallish portion of 2 4" long parcels of sole stuffed with crabmeat alone on a plate with butter sauce---and a dish of mashed potatoes on the side. Too much money as the service was not top-notch and the food itself was unremarkable.
I was underwhelmed
Did not think the food was very good - ordered a cheddar/bacon burger and for $18.00 was not very good. I asked for medium rare and it came through well done and the bacon was burnt crispy. Not a
The atmosphere is very nice and drink prices are reasonable, the service was excellent - nice pleasant folks. Would not recommend !!!!
I drive past this place a lot and decided to give it a try. Not sorry we did. Service was excellent. The place was just about empty being a Saturday in the summer, still we were greeted by very friendly staff. I could see this place being busy on a weekend at any given time. Our drinks were really good but pricey. We started with the lollipop chicken which came crispy and with 2 dipping sauces and blue cheese with celery. We were gonna just have burgers but saw the special menu and changed our minds. My wife ordered the crab cake entree special and gave it a 7 out 10 stars, there were 2 cakes and a salad, she enjoyed the salad and said the crab cakes were better than most bars but not as good as 5 star steak and seafood houses. I had the lamb special which had 3 pieces of lamb cooked perfectly, mashed potatoes and carrots. When I worked at a catering hall I used to man the carving station and do the lamb and looked forward to that but that has been about 20 years ago. It had been awhile since I had lamb so my first bite was WOW. We will go back for those burgers.
Overpriced. Apple strudel best part of meal one was enough to share with four people. Ashley new server very efficient friendly and a pleasure to have serve ud
Interesting menu, not loud, some music by the bar. We arrived just before Happy Hour ended, so we took advantage of their happy hour and appetizers.
Always have good food and great service!
Just an overall very nice spot to get a couple of drinks and a good meal. Pretty place that feels both sophisticated and comfortable. Atmosphere is somehow good for both a big group and couples. Food is not necessarily inventive in a foodie sort of way and won't blow you away but menu offers good variety and nearly everything is good to very good. Good choice of cocktails and wine as well. Service is extremely friendly and customer focused.
Wonderful meal. Salmon dish was my choice. Beautifully pan-roasted. I love the venue but the lighting is a bit too subdued and it is loud when the bar is full. Given the quality of the food, those concerns can be discounted. Highly recommend.
Food was above average. The one complaint is that we ordered 3 small plates and one entree to split and all of it came out at the same time which made us rush to eat all of the hot stuff before it came out.
Drinks were great. Enjoyed the flights of wine and bourbon. And the acoustic musician who came on at 9pm was great.
Love the music on Thursday -Saturday nights.
This place is tucked away in a small shopping center in Caldwell, NJ. If you drive up Bloomfield Ave. heading towards Verona you could easily miss it. You don't want to though. The food was excellent. Find it!
