Hochi Mama was the God Mother of all aspiring street artists and rappers in the early nineties. An immigrant in the big city, she hosted underground art shows along with rap battles for the rejects; a place where you could just be at home, but with family. The whole crew was always welcome, the more the merrier, and she was well renowned for creating innovative dishes using the original famous dishes from her home country, and plenty of booze, in her spacious and homey warehouse.

    Horrible service ever Never think to go back First I try to made a booking over the phone but been advised to do it online just because they were too busy or call back some other time So I made a reservation online but few days later I need to modify the booking so I rang again … staff who answer the call advised that’s need to be done online not over the phone. Actually I tried to explain that there is a message said “ modify this reservation please call “ Once we arrived at the venue I suggested that we have more people than what we book … the manager wasn’t happy abt it but what else can I do ?

    We love Hochi Mama and the 'Feed Me Now' options is fantastic value. It's a great way to try multiple things off the menu and there's plenty of food so you leave feeling satisfied. Very dish was delicious and we couldn't fault it.

    I had high expectations for Hochi Mama but the service let us down on a moderately busy Tuesday night. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt as perhaps they were short staffed. Booked a week ahead of time. We "discovered" the menu's by turning over our placemats about 10min after we were seated. Table water and alcoholic drinks weren't served until we waved someone down and asked for them and that was half way through our mains (about the same time when our second two side orders turned up). The late stubby of beer was warm - not sure how that's possible in a vibrant and bust restaurant. Can't fault the food at all and I'll probably return to give it another go, but then again Melbourne dining has so much to offer

    They kept forgetting our drinks but then at the end had the dunks on the bills multiple times. Was resolved by removing the cost but would have preferred to get the drink

    We arrived 20mins early for our booking, we were seated straight away and had been moved indoors from outside which was great in the winter weather. Vegan food was amazing, cocktails fun and yummy. Thank you!

    Went with my family and had an amazing dinner that filled us right up, a lot of food but just the right amount! We were amazed at how fast the food came out and the waitstaff’s attentiveness to clear empty plates very promptly. Definitely would come back again!

    Food was lovely, and the Feed Me option was good value. The restaurant was funky and vibrant, and quite noisy and tables close together, so not exactly an intimate experience. Service was friendly but clearly short staffed and wait times for first drink was too long (but given staff shortages everywhere, I’m not criticising this, just know to expect a wait). Overall a very nice dining experience with quality and tasty food.

    The Feed Me Option is fantastic especially for a group of people, you get to try a few things so it’s great!! Also its totally worth the price! The duck curry was delish with the right amount of spice but maybe if serving a duck leg put it in a plate not a narrow bowl that you don’t have room to strip the meat in. Also a small bowl of rice for four people doesn’t quite seem like enough. Would still go back despite these two faults - food was yummy!!!

    We were a little late for our reservation but it was unnecessary for the waitress to remind us every 5 minutes how long we had the table for. Food was good but the rushed experience was a disappointment.
