Normally love High George, but not this last time, starting the moment my friend and I walked through the door. The host sat us at one of the two small tables in front of the bar, putting us in a main throughway. We weren't happy but decided to suck it up. That was until another friend wanted to join. We asked the host for a larger table and immediately caught attitude. They reluctantly let us sit elsewhere (petty) and then proceeded to ignore us for at least 20 minutes, like some kind of punishment. The rest of the waitstaff did the same. I finally caught the attention of one of the servers, who took our drink and food order and was nice enough. Drink service was uncharacteristically slow, and the cocktails were meh. Props to the kitchen, though, food was tasty. Oh, and the two bar tables remained empty all night.
David the manager is the consummate professional. He ensured service was excellent. Our waiter was fantastic, so attentive and kind. Delicious food and drinks!
Absolutely loved this place! The Brussels were to die for. The duck wings and the Marina Mule were also standouts. Service was excellent, and even though we weren't dining in the open air since it's cold out now, the ambiance was still great.
The restaurant was booked as outdoor seating but in reality is a covered area with no ventilation.
I went there with 2 girlfriends to celebrate my birthday and we had a wonderful time. I am a vegetarian and was pleased with the options. The drinks and wine menu were very good too. When they brought a chocolate cake the staff and everyone at the restaurant starting singing happy Birthday. There was a great vibe and energy!
The place is gorgeous with amazing views, especially for sunset. But the menu isnt great and the prices are high. It's good for a date or to take an out of town guest, but for locals I'm not sure why'd you keep coming back.
Wonderful gem in the heart of downtown New Haven! The rooftop is perfect during all seasons!
Such a fun place! Great food, great service, and really nice ambience.
Loved the atmosphere, drinks And cocktails were great but it took almost 15 minutes to get 4 drinks! Food was delicious but didn’t really come with any sides. I would come back and my whole family enjoyed it!
Food was amazing. Drinks a little pricey. Will be back!
Very creative and tasty cocktails and food. Friendly and responsive staff too.
High George was an amazing place! I work in luxury hotels and the ambience and food were WAY better than expected. Give the chef a thanks... we started with the Brussel Sprouts then shared the Steak and Rigatoni Bolognese, all delicious. Highly recommend.
Honestly... the chef could learn a thing or two about using different seasonings and spices. The place is pretty solid otherwise though. Good drinks and great service. The food is just not that great.
Service was a bit slow but management made up for it with complimentary drinks and apologized for the wait. I booked for me and my wife’s 3 year anniversary but I think it was missed in our reservation.
Cool place, good food , amazing design hotel, great location.
Everyone was so nice and attentive, food was great as well.
This might’ve been the worst dinner I ever had. Service was horrible. we were place next to the bar where during corona there were open bottles of water everywhere laying on the bar serving to people.
Service was very nice from everyone. Drinks were very good. My steak was over cooked and the entire plate was room temp, not hot. I said nothing so as to not offset the meals of the other guests. I really like the place for ambiance and service. Food was good, not great. Also, I thought it was odd when I received my confirmation call for my reservation to be told all guest must purchase an entree - didn’t come off as very respectful for a guest paying $275/night for the weekend.
Absolutely awful experience. The food tasted of mold and the waitress was equally rancid. We were forced to order an excessive amount of food with our drinks despite asking to leave the restaurant numerous times. I will never again allow myself to be humiliated by the Blake hotel.
I love the view, the staff is very courteous and professional! Food was amazing, prices are reasonable. I’ll be back and I highly recommend to friends or anyone to try!
Great food, trendy vibe and service always phenomenal.
My partner and I celebrate our first anniversary here, and it was perfect. The ambiance is hip and elegant, and was a perfect spot for a romantic evening. We were delighted by the special touches the staff included in our service. The entrees and drinks we ordered were delicious.
This was my second time at High George and once again, it did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly, and we even got to meet the chef. Food was delicious and the ambiance is fantastic.
Mediocre food. The steak was overcooked. Not what I expected from a restaurant affiliated with Tyler Anderson, of the incredible Millwright. The rooftop novelty was also a waste, since we sat near the elevators and had zero view of anything. Also, loud trendy rap music is as major vibe killer when trying to have a nice dinner. New Haven is packed with great restaurants, and this isn’t one of them.
The food tasted pretty good. My only complaint is that I had a reservation and had to wait for a table to be ready for 45 minutes. Once food comes, the staff doesn’t come back to the table to ask if you need anything.
Great service. We were moved but were asked and compensated.
Server was polite and courteous.
All staff wore masks and gloves.
Menu although limited was diverse.
Food was fresh and prepared as ordered.
Martini was reminiscent of a short pour and the prices were a bit on the high side for plates without sides or salad.
Great location for dinner with a view of the sunset and then the stars. Very good service, very good drinks, good but not exceptional food. One thing that was off putting was the phone call the day of the reservation telling me that our time was for 90 min, after which we were expected to be finished.
A birthday dinner at one of our favorite spots!
The service and drinks were great.
Always have a great time at the High George!
It’s a great restaurant and I loved my dinner. Service was slow even though our waiter was wonderful.
Excellent service, delicious food, and a fun ambience. The wait staff was very attentive and personable, some of the best service I've experienced in awhile. We got the rigatoni bolognese and hanger steak; both were absolutely delicious! The drinks were also fantastic. Dessert was not anything special, but it was still very tasty and definitely satisfied our sweet-tooth cravings. The space felt fun and trendy, and the music was on point and matched the vibe well.
I would definitely come back again for dinner, and would one day like to try brunch here.
Love this restaurant! This was my second time and it was fantastic on both occasions!! Highly recommend!
Dinner was very good. The restaurant was out of several wine selections and beer selections; looks to be a provisioning problem. The rooftop is partially enclosed with drop down plastic window covers.
Not great, overall. Very neglectful service, bordering on rude.
Good food to boot
Great place , great food and drinks, and excellent service!
Only issue is we called ahead to ensure it was outdoors, and we were told yes. Unfortunately, while it was a rooftop, it was enclosed. There was one spot with a large opening but we were not able to take that spot as it was reserved for a larger party.
Made a reservation a week ahead to celebrate Wife’s bday with family and have some drinks and tapas before our dinner. After waiting for a bit We got sat in the worst table in the place but we said okay were here let’s try and enjoy anyway. We order 1 round of drinks And a few appetizers, which were pretty good.
We got ready to order another round but were told we needed to order entrees or 2 appetizers *per person in order to be served and we would other wise have to leave (Which was not explained when making the reservation, and is honestly absolutely ridiculous). So we did.
We would of ordered a few more rounds and appetizers but It Felt very forced and was so disappointing they were aware of the occasion but did not make us feel comfortable.
It honestly ruined what was supposed to be a nice celebration as it was a Friday we couldn’t rlly go anywhere else at that point but weren’t going to stay. They lost our business.
Beautiful spot. Nice staff. Unfortunately they were out of a few of our entree choices but what we did order was very good.
Went for Saturday brunch. Lovely morning to sit outdoors on their covered patio. Service was prompt and professional. Food was delicious: ricotta lemon pancakes, scrambled eggs and fresh fruit. Coffee could have been a bit stronger but that’s just my personal preference. Will be back!
