HERO was simply outstanding. First of all, the service is exceptional, friendly, relaxed and highly professional. The atmosphere and interior design is wonderful, welcoming and interesting. It offers the possibility for romantic dates, or intimate meals with friends and/or family. The noise levels are perfectly managed, you can hear other guests in the background but still entirely focus on your conversation. Then there is the food and beverages. Every bite was delicious, indulgent and complex. The food is served warm, well presented in lovely crockery. The attention to details is impressive. We literally gasped at every mouthful. We knew it was going to be good but we did not expect such pleasurable experience. Well done to the food heroes of HERO.
Thoroughly enjoyed our early evening meal at Hero. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed and nothing was too much trouble. Service was terrific, food was really, really good with great flavours and sufficient choices. This is a great addition to Fed Square.
Every dish we ordered was fantastic....done really well and not pretentious.
All the food was excellent, with the exception of the potato "chips" which were more like large, tempura battered wedges. These were quite undercooked. The chicken with plum sauce was delicious, as was the market fish of the day and the pasta. All the sides were great. Our female server was good, but a guy brought our wine around, poured a glass each then took it away again and left it at the bar, making it quite difficult to get it back again! We had to ask twice. All in all, a good night. We would definitely go back again.
The custard tart is a must get. It’s silky, not too sweet and entirely dreamy and gorgeous.
Initial service was good. Drink and food orders taken quickly. After finishing our meal, we sat for half an hour and nobody came near us to see if we wanted dessert or coffee. Then we had to plead for someone to get our bill. Sparkling water was $4 per carafe. First one was half full after pouring 3 glasses and the maitre d' took it away. We asked why it wasn't left on the table and he muttered something about keeping chilled. We asked for some more later and a new carafe was brought. We were charged for 2 full carafes.
Interesting dishes. Nice staff. Delicious meal. Great spot.
Beautiful food and plenty of it. Great service as expected.
Great food, attentive staff. Got us through quickly when asked, so we could make our booking at Ian Potter gallery. Good vego range. I'm allergic to fish & seafood, so would have preferred more meat & less fish options, in the end I chose vego dishes, as they looked more interesting than the meat options. Very good wine list, nice ambience. Would like to go back one day when I have more time.
Pleasant surroundings, lovely staff , adventurous and interesting food and so importantly, noise levels low.
We ordered Cape Grim and every serve was very tough no matter how it was cooked. That was very disappointing.
I had heard great things. Maybe going on mothers day is asking for trouble. With the restaurant only offering a mothers day $115 set menu we were expecting something special, but we were disappointed. Food was nice - but not responsive enough to needs. We were told that the steak (choice of 3 mains) is only cooked 'medium rare' but it was too raw for two of our party. No choice on the dessert (alternate tiramisu and raspberry rhubarb pie) meant more than half of the desserts weren't eaten. The family consensus was that HERO has a cafe vibe rather than an enticing arty ambience - such a shame for an arts precinct location. It almost looks a bit like a modern utilitarian classroom. So overall, not that special and really expensive - particularly when you add a 10% Sunday surcharge. I doubt we will be back, or recommending.
Mother’s Day was great. Good food, good service and good value thanks guys !
Dined for the Mother’s Day lunch and really enjoyed the selection of food. The kingfish was amazing (and I’m not a person that normally likes fish)! Another highlight was the cabbage and pecorino salad. Such a tasty and interesting dish to eat. The food and presentation were great and the service was wonderful too.
Highly recommend for a delicious bite when in the cbd. Looking forward to returning for their regular menu.
It was amazing. It was amazing. It was amazing. It was amazing.
Delicious meal and excellent service from a top team. Thanks
An exquisite dining experience at Hero, highly recommend.
Remains top spot in its category.
An excellent light meal with sweets. Highly recommend Hero. A credit to Karen's team.
A few more options on the menu for mains would provide a mor complete offering. Service was okay but not great, front of house was a bit rude. Waiters continually messed up our water when we had requested sparkling, then repeatedly topped up with still. Just really annoying. We also asked the size of certain dishes and were given incorrect information. Has potential but some room for improvement.
Loved the food, we shared baccala fritters & a mozzarella salad, then a chicken main which was stunning.
Service prompt, atmosphere busy.
We will return, soon.
Great food and wine list. Service was perfect, friendly staff but not hovering around the table just there then you needed them. Interesting decor and very quiet.
Consistently good. Great food and service.
Good location, well spaced tables, efficient and friendly staff, interesting food, could hear each other (!) will go there again
Amazing service with great food, and a calm/cool atmosphere. Would definitely go back.
Delicious food - be sure to save room for the custard tart. Best ever! Catered well for dietary issues. Easy to have conversation - it was full but we could easily hear ourselves. A bit pricey but worth it for the food and ambience.
The chicken parfait and the Vitello tonnato that I had on my first visit was so delicious that I just couldn’t go past it on my next visit which was only 2 days later. Highly recommended!
I shouldn't write this - I want the place to myself!
Where to start? A restaurant that doesn't shout at you. A gentle buzz. Acoustically damped so that you can have a conversation at the table without the effort to sort out the words from the surrounding din. Tasteful and appropriate background music.
Wait staff that know their craft and make you feel comfortable.
The food and wine? Menu and wine list are moderately short and so well put together. Nothing jarred. Even the salad dressing was subtle enough to work with the wines. Chicken liver parfait was spot on. Main courses were lovely. Flavours were generous and balanced.
Prices? Moderately expensive - but I have to say that we were happy with what we paid for such a good, well thought out and relaxing meal.
In short: If you want to visit a restaurant that is focused on doing the right things well, Hero is an impressive yardstick by which to judge others.
Amazing food & venue! Service was exceptional. Highly recommend trying it
We had a fabulous evening at Hero - every menu item we had (and shared) was incredibly tasty and wonderful. Especially the pretzel and tarama, the skirt steak and the custard tart!
the staff were resilient and attentive. the service was efficient and the food was exceptional . we chose items on the menu that suited a short dining time prior to a movie at ACMI the service and timing was impeccable .
I must suggest that perusing the menu before a short sitting is advisable -shared plates and salads are a great combination,
had a good experience there and enjoyed the movie as well
What an amazing experience, the absolutely delicious food, well considered wine list and the professionalism of staff were all complimented by the interesting modern decor.
Looking forward to my next visit.
A fabulous new location with 'picture paintings' on the wall of various celebrities - fun trying to guess who they are. Very tasty food and timely service.
Eating early in a group we had the delight of the huge oval table so noise was not an issue. Great Rose by the glass and bottle. Sparkling water offered, nice touch.Staff friendly & helpful. Food excellent.
Very noisy, tables are too close to each other, asked for a quiet table on the side of the room and got the one right in the middle (Didn't read the special request I made when I booked.) Food was ok.
Stunning food and very lovely service. We will be back soon.
After some difficulty getting into the restaurant as ACMI was closed and so were the restaurant doors, the meal was delicious and the staff were friendly and communicative.
It was my 3 rd visit and will certainly go back again and have been telling my friends!!!
Fun dining experience. Brilliant service and food.
Loved our experience. We enjoyed a drink upstairs in their bar before sitting at the bench for our deli dinner.
