Amazing food and beautiful place. Went with my husband and our 8 month old baby and the staff were very accommodating
Really enjoy our meals when we come to The Hengist, Well Done!
The Hengist is always a reasonable standard and does enough to get you to come back but not enough to earn 5 stars. It does the job without differentiating itself
This is the best meal I have had in a restaurant for as long as I can remember! The food was absolutely delicious, and in such a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I had the chicken and prawn thai curry which was fabulous. The taste and texture of the prawns; mouth-watering! My husband had the best steak and chips he's ever had. The profiteroles came with hot melted chocolate sauce-oh my goodness...……..I can't wait to go back again. I would definitely recommend this place.
Service was slightly slow and the ambience need tweaking slightly but we had a fantastic meal.
we had a groupon voucher given as a present and we had a fabulous time
Food was great and very tasty but service was pretty poor! We waited an hour between starters and mains! Had to go up to bar to ask for dessert and then bill and then card machine to pay! It was a shame as the food was great!
It's one of our favourite restaurants anyway but we'd never been for a Sunday roast. It didn't disappoint! Food was amazing as always and service was great too. Love it here!
Lovely meal and great service would recommend and would definitely go back
As always the food was fantastic, service was excellent and the atmosphere was perfect!
Superb service and choice if you are gluten free. Only gave 3 stars for service and ambience because we were put in a back room (there was a function going on downstairs) which was freezing. We asked three times for the air conditioning to be turned down. It was eventually turned off. From then on we were able to enjoy the delicious food.
The quality of food was outstanding, the service was first class. The atmosphere was relaxed and there was no pressure to order.
I was very disappointed with the Sunday lunch, veg turned up cold and was just plonked in a heap on a plate, the parsnips were impossible to cut, but on complaining were changed for more parsnips that again you couldn't cut, they had a fibrous stalk running through them, but on the up side the wine was nice.
Great Sunday lunch, speedy service with a smile, lovely food
Amazing food and service, will definitely be making this a regular visit!
Our friends and us were looking for something special for Easter Sunday and really liked the look of Hengist from the photos and reviews on opentable. We opted for the 3 course set menus served on the day rather than 2 because of the desserts. We were not disappointed. The cod was amazing and the roasts were brilliant. The Eton mess needed more meringue but that's a quibble. Overall, good service and very tasty and eye catching food. Just right for Easter Sunday.
Sat in the lovely garden and our food was hot and very good. The staff were friendly and helpful
Excellent food reasonably priced. Good, friendly service. Tables maybe a little too close together for intimate conversation. My one objection is the service charge being automatically added to the bill, I prefer that to be at the discretion of the customer. In spite of this will definitely return.
The Hengust delivered yet again. Always reliable food excellent and tasty. Service is great too. Always recommend this venue to anyone wanting somewhere special to eat.
Excellent food and service. Staff friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Pink Prosecco was just perfect!
Amazing food and lovely staff. Would recommend a visit to this place.
Excellent food and they accept Tastecard. It was a Wednesday so quiet but will be busy at wekends
Good service and great food, I will definitely be going back
Absolutely amazing! This is the second time I’ve been for Sunday Roast and it’s sooo good! So delicious, so beautifully presented! Yum! The service is very attentive and happy to accommodate food requests, my only little niggle was the buttermilk panna cotta, it just wasn’t as nice as a previous panna cotta I’d had previously. Was almost curdled? But it hasn’t impacted my opinion!
Fantastic night , great food , excellent service , staff were amazing , nothing was too much trouble really friendly
My Partner and I received a gift voucher for Christmas. We had never been to this restaurant before. The staff were very welcoming and polite. The food was delicious! Would highly recommend.
We recently had afternoon lunch for our son’s 10th birthday. The Sunday lunch menu was really good value for money and everyone really enjoyed the food. Lovely, lovely restaurant, we’d definitely go back.
An extremely enjoyable breakfast with great food and service. As it wasn't too busy it was just the right balance of ambience and noise.
Another gorgeous meal. I can highly recommend The Hengist. It never fails to please.
Always a delight.
Great food and service. Would recommend this Resturant to my friends.
Lovely food, great value for money and the staff were very professional/welcoming. 100% will be returning
The Sunday roast was outstanding, and the chef made sure he personally bought my child’s food out and check on my vegetarian request. He is always great whenever I book a table! However I found the Sunday waiting staff weren’t very attentative, and we were put on the smallest table as a family, downstairs was practically empty so we could of been moved. The table wasn’t cleared correctly, when starters weren’t ordered and the table was so tiny my child’s food fell off twice where it was so crammed and in the end we just wanted to leave. I do really find some off the waiting staff at The Hengist do not carry the same level of service as say the food and the manangement. Other than that great meal!
Absolutely fantastic! Pigeon starter a tiny bit tough but all in all amazing.
Limited menu, poor service with reluctant waitress. Had to ask for spoon and sugar for tea, was reluctant and slow. Empty glasses and plates left on the table during courses
Superb. Staff from those greating you at the door, to the bar, and those taking your order and serving you, whilst appearing quite young were all extremely polite and very efficient and we'll trained in their roles. Food was very good with a good selection of options, including wine options. The Hengist has a very large gin selection so I recommend studying the list at home first.
Costs are reasonable with a realistic service charge being added to the bill, which is also advised on the menu.
What was also excellent to see was a chef when his work was done took time to talk to guests.
We choose to sit upstairs where there are tablecloths. We did however feel it was a little to bright and white where we were sitting. Next time we would try downstairs especially trying to get a table with the large winged chairs. Extremely pleased with our experience
The food was fabulous, service was good, didn't rate our table at all, we were sat right by the stairs and the service hatch area so very busy and didn't feel we could completely relax
The mollusc night was amazing. We had a seafood platter for two and it it exceeded our expectation. I only wish we could’ve finished the lot, but unfortunately, we were too full. The only criticism would be how close the tables are together. Hard to have a private conversation with tables either side of us in such close proximity.
We went for my birthday and the food was excellent. Few issues, one she asked if we wanted the wine list and we said yes but failed to bring it and we had to ask again and one of us had bacardi and coke and the coke bottle was a year out of date
