When eating at a hatted restaurant, there are certain expectations, the biggest being that the food will be spectacular and the service excellent. Our waiter was obviously inexperienced which was fine, but the front of house manager spent the entire evening at the service counter out back and never once shadowed the waiter, or asked us (or anyone else) how the evening was going.

After 15mins of waiting, we said we hadn’t ordered. The waiter walked off and served others (who arrived after us) for another 5 mins or so before returning. The waiter didn’t know what cutlery to lay out for entrees and took away the entree knife with the bread and never replaced it. We eventually helped ourselves to a knife from another table, and when we pointed this out, there was no apology, no acknowledgment that this shouldn’t happen, and it wasn’t replaced on the next table either.

The food was plated VERY attractively and most of it was really tasty. However, the honeydew consumee with the smoked trout was ‘on-the-turn’ and imparted an “off” flavour to the rest of the dish. We couldn’t point this out because there wasn’t a waiter available to speak with, though there were 3 chatting together at the bar for about 7 mins.

Mains were lovely but served literally 45 seconds after entrees were cleared, not even allowing us time to take a sip of wine in between. Every meal was very “busy” but the quality was excellent... perhaps less is more though, as it’s easy to see how the ‘busy-ness’ might slow down the kitchen. The people next to us waited over an hour for their meal and the whole night felt so ‘Faulty Towers’, we didn’t stay for dessert.

We had other meals with service problems in Airlie Beach but those were rectified by senior staff, apologies and a complimentary drink. Here, nothing more than a big fat bill and some poor memories... really disappointing!

We went to your restaurant 12 months ago with friends when we were visiting and the whole experience was fantastic. We enjoyed the food so much we all had 3 courses (very unusual for us).
We went back again this year expecting another great meal. The service was excellent but we struggled to even understand what dishes to expect from the cryptic menu description and were disappointed with our meals. My duck was very tough.

We are happy to pay good money for a great meal but this was not the case this time.

We will not return next time we visit unless we know the food has improved and the menu descriptions are easier to understand.

The only criticism would be because it is open to the weather and they do not have gas heaters it can be cold at this time of year. However that does not take anything away from what is on offer

Absolutely loved the mother's day lunch. The food was exquisite, even though I didn't like cured trout, but when you have a set menu you can't please everyone. The dessert should be on the menu permanently. The only thing I was disappointed with, we wanted to buy a bottle of wine, and they couldn't accommodate, they would only do that glass of wine, and between 2 of us we had 6 glasses, equivalent to a bottle. This wine has been an issue on a few occasions before that I have dined at Hemingway's. The music was very well selected, especially for a Sunday lunch.

There was a lovely atmosphere, the service was attentive, friendly and speedy. The menu was small but covered everything (seafood, chicken, red meat and vegetarian) and all food was beautifully presented.
The view was great but would have been even more spectacular at sunset.

The food was brilliant, I enjoyed the crab chilli pasta dish which I would recommend to friends. Nice an easy booking online.
My only criticism would be the mango sorbet and sauce was too sour to eat.

This is a beautiful spot, right on the water, and gourmet dinner, nice wine selection. Service was excellent. We walked there from Airlie Beach and taxi back. We reserved this dinner reservation long before we left the states.

Warm welcome from a very friendly staff. Entree we having octopus and beef cheek. I expected baby octopus but is not but the taste is alright, sauce a bit overpowering but the octopus is tender. On the other hand, the beef cheek is abosolutely spot on. Creamy mash with a beef that melted in ur mouth with full of flavouring. On main course we having fish and pork. I would say the pork is slightly under season and bit dry. Not big fans of the pork sauce. Another side, the fish is the star of the night. The fish is cook in perfection, while the black rice and the pea make it to another level. Crunchy soft creamy at the same time yummm. At last we having a chocolate entremet for finish. Jackfruit ice cream is unique to try but you won't regret. There even have some fruit pulp. The chocolate itself nice presented plate and love the dark chocolate bitterness and the crispy bottom. A rate 8 out of 10 for us. Will recommend to friends

Our waiter was very nice and great personality. The only thing was service was slow and it was not busy at all. Definitely need to work on their sequence of service so that it matches the place as it’s so lovely! Also when it started to rain and we askd to be moved to the inside table they said no. Don’t no why because it never got used the entire night other than it looked like it was being used by the staff to put laptop and work books on. Other than that such a lovely place with good food and drinks.

Went to Hemingways for our son's birthday we had been told previously that it was great food little expensive and a long wait for food delivery.
Our food was really good and wait time not long at all it was expensive but still we would go again.
The only downturn was the guitarist was to loud especially the trumpet session.

The meal was good, but the Lamb a little chewy as we requested it not rare.

Then we dine again the following night and the fillet steak medium well was perfect.

The food is very good, but on both night the food did take a long time to come.

First night was Monday, busy but not full, second night Tuesday was maybe 15-20 people and the service was still slow.

Great Staff and Location

Atmosphere was beautiful and food stunning!! only fault was we did have to wait for over an hour between courses which really dragged out the experience but to be fair it was Valentine’s Day and I’m assuming the kitchen was under the pump. The live music really set the evening and of course the views over sunset were just perfect! All and all a great experience and we can’t wait to go back when it’s a little less busy.

Service is worst in Airlie Beach.
Staff have no people skills
Manager is worst if all
Valentines Day was my birthday and supposed to be a special occasion, but probably the worst night of my life
Will never recommend or visit again

Food was very good.
Service was also pleasant.
I did indicate on the booking form it was a birthday occasion which wasn't acknowledged.
On other requests I asked for a Red rose on the table which wasn't fufilled.
Apart from this we really enjoyed the experience

I was hugely disappointed in my latest dining experience at Hemingways. As an Airlie Beach resident, I have eaten here several times, with varying results. I had family visiting from the UK who enjoy fine dining, and I crossed fingers that Hemingways would come up to scratch. It didn't. The service was incredibly slow, and considering that there were only three other tables, just not acceptable. The main course, when it eventually arrived, was lukewarm. A plate of chips for a member of the party failed to materialise, and when the waitress advised that it was on its way, the guest felt he had waited long enough, and politely declined. There appeared to be two waiting staff, which should have been enough for the number of guests? Or was the problem in the kitchen? Too many bad reviews, Hemingways, for a supposed top class restaurant.

Service and location were good. Entree was delicious but only 3 small pieces of toast to accompany. Would have been better with additional toasts or a smaller portion of mushroom. The main dish had little flavour but a reasonable portion size. It didn’t feel like the location compensated for the overall cost of the evening.
