Hellenic Republic Kew
Here at Hellenic Republic, we work hard to ensure your visit is a unique and memorable experience.
When it comes to Greek cuisine, our philosophy is to keep things simple. We source the best fresh and flavoursome produce from Greece and Melbourne to create authentic recipes in a clean, modern style.
To ensure you get to sample the best our menu has to offer, we recommend our sharing group menus - the Trapezi or Athenian. Our chefs prepare a selection of the finest dishes on our menu for you to share with your loved ones. It’s the only way to enjoy a taste of authentic Greek in Melbourne.
Hellenic Republic Kew is the second addition to the Hellenic family, open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
Hostess Chloe was efficient and engaging, available at the right times but not intrusive. Found staff overall to be approachable and warm. Good service makes the food taste better.
I ordered the $55 lunch menu and expected some red meat in addition to the chicken - the food was great and i had more than enough - but not enough bread to enjoy the ample dip (again)
Suggest you improve the dress code and it may look a little more high end. Service was excellent however and food was very nice but not outstanding. I would recommend it for a casual lunch or casual dinner but not an 'experience'. I didn't realise it was casual dining so perhaps it was my mistake.
Great experience, thoroughly enjoyed the food and service
Great tasting food and plenty of it. Will definitely be back
We’ve been here a number of times and it is always excellent. The food is the standout, but the service is excellent and unobtrusive. The banquet menu is a winner and takes away the hassle of choosing. Great restaurant.
I wouldn’t recommend for lunch, menu was so limited and it’s very noisy.
Great service, but we enjoy traditional Greek food. Great to try though.
I'd been before but not in a long time - and I won't be going again. Went for my birthday - what a pity. The service was non-existent; as in, our main server wouldn't even look at us, let alone respond or actually volunteer anything about the food or drink. The space lacked charm - felt more like a cafe than a restaurant. When the bill came, I couldn't help but wonder how far my money would've gone for me and my three guests if we went to a Greek eatery where they actually take pride in hosting customers. While the food was fairly tasty, we went with a banquet yet didn't get an ounce of lamb. Isn't that why you choose Greek? The chicken was good, but does that constitute 'meatS'?! Honestly, I live closer to The Greek Spot in Hawthorn - and they take the baklava over this joint! Spend your hard-earned dollars elsewhere.
Great food and Great Service my wife and I had a fantastic Anniversary dinner
Always a lovely treat for a family birthday celebration. The lamb is just wonderful!
Awesome food and atmosphere. The staff were amazing and friendly. Great experience!!
Firstly we requested a 6.30 reservation but it was not available. We took a 6.15 seating and when we arrived the restaurant was almost empty. By 6.30 there were maybe 4-5 additional people and by the time we left it was barely 20% full.
Secondly even we appreciate that it is a Greek restaurant the continuous, very loud Greek music was annoying and we could barely have a conversation.
Thirdly the food was average and the chicken especially was overcooked.
It should be renamed Hellenic Cafeteria or Food Hall as that is what it feels like.
Slow to be seated as long line of people waiting to be seated.
Slow to get drinks served then bottle of wine served but no glasses
Entree served with no cutlery by kitchen staff
Mains then took over 1 hour to come out after entrees cleated and called away.
On the up side food was very good
Outstanding food. Price is not cheap but food is well worth it . Wines very expensive so we stuck with beer. Service was excellent and eccentric! Wonderful lamb and wonderful scallops. We had the banquet version and thankfully there were good breaks between service. Look forward to another visit. Highly recommend.
Ambience was good and the staff were very friendly and professional, however the food was far too salty, to the point that we returned many of the dishes. They were responsive to our feedback and discounted the bill for the courses we did not eat.
Great quick friendly service, beautiful food, great experience, certainly recommend. Can get loud but no different to most popular restaurants!!
Thanks. Great night but we had to leave early after something in the masa banquet made us both ill. Service was FANTASTIC. Ambience great. Was a real shame to have to leave before finishing the banquet.
The waiters were very helpful and recommended great dishes we all loved. All of the food was delicious and we definitely didn’t leave hungry. I would certainly recommend it.
Went for an impromptu dinner for my wife’s birthday . Great service and plentiful food (banquet option).
Our only complaint was with the banquet for 2. We asked for Pescatarian instead of meat we got a tiny dish of fish included with other entrees. For the main course with salad came 4 large prawns and that was it.
We went for the vegan night and while it was very good I would have liked to see more traditional Greek food like souvlaki or moussaka.
Food was okay but not enough with the seafood banquet.
Not value for money
Great experience... just needed more scollops.
A bit pricey but like anything you get what you pay for.
Food was exceptional and filling.
Service was great.
Beer was cold.
Company was spectacular
I took my wife here for her birthday. We have been before and as usual, you never disappoint!!
A Banquet for $75 per head
Inadequate portions especially sharing the dessert for 3
Total bill over $300 for 3 just one bottle of wine in the $50 range.
Sorry expect more for those bucks
Food was nice although very small serves for money. Restaurant very noisy, and music was too loud to have a reasonable conversation. I did want to bring our own cake as it was for a birthday celebration until I was advised there was a $3.50 per person 'cakeage' fee which is outrageous considering the prices you pay for their meals.
Knew I wanted to come here again for my birthday, the wait staff were awesome, knowledgeable and even sang me happy birthday. The food here is incredible and that along with the general atmosphere, the staff, the wine and the amount of food for my group of 4 was conducive to such a great and fun night!
Great food, efficient and friendly service. Great place to have a meal with family and friends
Great fresh food attentive service for gluten free
Very pleasant place for a meal. Flavoursome food. Serves rather large. Service very good
We chose the set menu and the food was excellent, particularly the mezze which we accompanied by an ouzo. However, our enjoyment was spoilt by 2 things : the noise level, with a particular noisy table of 4 young people next to us who seemed to have no consideration whatsoever for others and second, the place was very cold, the air conditioning obviously geared to the 35 degrees a couple of days before but not for the cooler 23 of the night. The girl serving us was quite friendly but again because of the noise, it was hard to hear what she wanted to tell us about the dishes.
It was a really disappointing experience at Hellenic Republic this time around. I've been to the restaurant many times with colleagues as I work locally and usually the service and food is on point. On this occasion my partner and I ordered the $55pp four course meal. We were shown to our table near the window. There happened to be a fly inside the restaurant that was hovering around the table. Thought no more of it and decided to let it go.
The first and second course was served and was beautiful as expected. We were having a good time. The third course came out and it was a roasted chicken. I was serving the chicken to find there was fly wedged between two pieces of chicken. The fly was not charred therefore it must have landed on the meat after it was taken out of the oven. The fly was on my partner's plate and I immediately alerted the staff. At this point, needless to say, we had lost our appetite and decided to move on.
When we alerted the service staff of the issue they were visibly shocked by the issue and I told the waitress that we would like the bill. She proceeded to inform a man who I presume was the manager. I approached the manager afterwards and he assured me that he did not know how it could have happened as the oven doors in the kitchen are closed. He offered reasons for why there should not be a fly in the food. He did not offer an apology or acknowledge that there was a fly in the food. He offered to take one set of $55 and wondered if we'd like to stay for dessert, saying it was made in a different part of the kitchen.
It was a truly disappointing encounter and I do not intend on returning to the restaurant in future.
Pre Christmas dinner with 2 friends. Really noisy and difficult to converse. Food was delicious and waitress tried really hard to cater for my friend with allergies.
Noisy not lively.
Masa menu far from filling - good not great and only fair value at $55 per head.
Best part of the menu were the dips and bread.
(14 year old son needed a Macca’s meal and then a pizza to fill up)
Everything was great except the price.
WE chose the $75 set menu. Great food but NOT for $75 per person.
Great food. GOOD service
The service was good and special mention must be made of the waitress that brought crushed ice for my ill grandchild to ease the pain in his mouth.
Strangely one of our main dishes never came to the table and when we enquired much later, the server said a mistake had been made and the dish would be out in the next few minutes. The dish was finally served, but after 20 minutes or more. We were a large party, and there was no reduction in the bill. This may be a something the team want to consider when a mistake like this is made.
love this place - food is amazing - sat near kitchen this time so was loud and hot! mains came out straight after entree which was a bit rushed & dessert one option on the banquet was unexpected - especially considering entree was so generous - but as always food is beautiful.
Disappointing service on arrival, extracted table service several times. Holoumi very good. Other courses very underwhelming, including cold/oily entrees. Mains appear to be cheffed with unlove
Perhaps once was great, now resting firmly in it’s laurels. Staff friendly though in effective
Unfortunately the food was fairly average. We ordered the banquet, which included your standard Greek fair but most of it was disappointing. The dips weren’t very tasty, I only ate half of my stuffed zucchini flower, the saganaki was not salty enough and covered in overly sweet figs, the salad was ok but nothing special (just grains, not much flavour). The bread and the chicken were ok and the doughnuts good. The restaurant was also VERY noisy. I think they have lowered the ceiling? It was much nicer when it was higher and more spacious.
