Very good and attentive service. The small bites we started with were ok but the mains and sides were all excellent. Lovely cocktails and wine. Nice decor and lighting. Music was inaudible so a bit louder would have helped the ambience. Overall a very nice dining experience. Would definitely recommend.

Delicious food and cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Highlights were the chicken liver pate and gnocchi starters, although everything was tasty and well presented. The only negative would be the size and quality of the vegetable side dishes as these were small and quite basic for the price. Will go again.

We went for dinner on Valentine's Day and indulged in a set menu. It was disappointing the choices in the set menu options after having seen the usual menu as the croquettes and tartare sound amazing but the menu options did not disappoint when we had them arrive at the table. The food is skillfilly prepared and the service is top notch.

-"Feed us" menu overpriced for one main, one entree, half a dessert per person.

-Little to no obvious French influence on food.

-If aiming for a fine dining crowd, don't give people a bowl of chips with ANYTHING.

-Ten mussels and a bowl of chips doesn't constitute a meal, unless you're eating at the counter of a pub.

Ambience nice, service good, building lovely, but could not recommend on the basis of the food. Felt like we were being taken advantage of for choosing the "Feed Us" option - I could forgive more easily if there was more food or a lower price, but at a fine-dining cost this was not good enough.

We had a great night at Hell of the North. I have been to the restaurant five times now, and each time the food has been excellent, creative and well balanced.

The "feed Me' menu comprises very good value for money and a great way to gain a feel for the different food selections available. It is a very generous mix of dishes. We last visited with friends some of whom did not eat meat, so the menu was tailored with greater variety of seafood/fish and vegetarian dishes. The result was a very well balanced meal.

The wine list is very good, well balanced and carefully selected.

The service is knowledgeable, efficient and friendly.

The ambience is relaxed and informal.

Food and service was good but unfortunately we had to share a table with a group of 5 and in an enclosed room. We were expecting just a table for 4 for a quiet fine dining but instead in a room of people talking loudly

We go here a bit and really enjoy the food. The only issue we have is the service which can be pretty iffy at times. We enjoy a warm and inviting environment and sometimes you get the feeling that you are an inconvience rather than a customer. However, had a pretty good night regardless.

Great food, great drinks and fabulous service led to a great night out with a friend. The Feed Me menu option was so much fun and our preferences were taken into account too which was appreciated. The wine selection was diverse and delicious and cocktails to start were well made too. All up a wonderful place to go for dinner!

Welcome and service inconsistent across staff and disappointingly aloof at times. Although the flavours of the food lived up to expectation, the quantity and portioning of the 'feed me' menu fell short. Great space and great company - underwhelming dining experience.

Staff were nice and friendly, but not particularly attentive nor interested in going 'above and beyond'. I was served flat sparkling wine, but the wait staff insisted it was ok. Took over 20 minutes to pay the bill. Food was great & a cool atmosphere.

Attended as a group of 6 mates and went for the $68 "feed me" option. The service was excellent and unobtrusive. The wine list is great - short, but a good choice of French and local wines at reasonable prices. We stayed French and near the top of the list in terms of price and all the wines were exceptional (Pink Champagne, Chablis, Cote du Rhone, and a dessert wine).

The food was good quality and service well paced. Appetizers were nice (little toast things and pate); fish course was excellent (fillet of fish, plus a bowl of mussels and chips); both beef and pork were excellent - dessert was OK (nice creme brulee and something with mango).

Overall a great meal, great environment, good service. Lot's to love about this place. We blew about $170 per head - but gave the wine list a solid touch up.

Let them feed you and you will have a great evening. Staff really know their stuff and the pace is just right. It’s great value and you feel full but not stuffed. And it’s awesone value for such great food. A firm favourite.

We went to Hell of the North to celebrate a family graduation. But getting there was complicated by thunderstorms, driving rain, high winds and a dearth of taxis. But the restaurant were wonderfully accomodating, waited for us and didn't ever hint at rushing us. Delightful meal, great wine and vibrant room.

Excellent well-balanced food. Short menu but delicious creations. Extraordinarily friendly, accommodating and unpretentious. One of Melbourne’s best for very high quality food and wine. Surprisingly affordable - how do they do it? Not a wonder the place is always full.

Hell of the North is one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne it never disappoints. We had a great meal all the dishes are amazing. The staff were very accommodating and offered to move us because of a loud group near us, but we were fine with it. The creme brûlée is one of the best I have ever had, if not the best.
