Fantastic food...a bit noisy for a quiet conversation, but energetic and fun. Get the muscles on toast! Sommelier was very helpful as well!
Hazel is a great new place with good food and pleasant service. It is a good place for a quick and good value business lunch. I have also been at the bar in the basement, Dessous, and the cocktails are just out of this world!! Come and visit!
Loved it, thank you. Fresh, bright and vibrant !!!
My friend and I had the most amazing experience at Hazel. Our service attendant was friendly, professional, attentive and considerate of our needs. The food was absolutely beautiful and the wine selection is excellent too. An evening I will remember for a long time!
Lovely place, food was delicious but not really made for sharing. Portions are small - I was still hungry when I left.
A great newcomer to the restaurant scene in Melbourne. Service was outstanding and the food was delicious and beautifully presented.
Tried the $72 pp chef menu with a group of nine (9). I was a bit anxious at the time of booking Hazels for a big group dinner because the reviews were quite mixed. But I’m glad I tried this place before it gets too busy! I’m sure it will, considering the price range, taste, service, location and atmosphere. The service was great! Each dish was nicely portioned and was served at good timing. I would highly recommend for people planning a big group dinner in the city. Also, the first cocktail on the menu is recommended! V refreshing and bubbly.
Good food, service a little forced and The music was all over the place
Food was sub-par & not worth the price. However, the venue is beautiful.
We had a great birthday dinner at Hazel. The chef’s menu was delicious!
Our Ladies who Lunch post-xmas catch up at Hazel was nothing short of excellent. Really, really great food (huge serves!), excellent wine list - a little pricey, but the food isn't terribly expensive so it works out well in the end - and really excellent service. Fabulous space (upstairs table at the back, looking over the kitchen area), bright and light. Not as noisy as we thought it might be, despite being reasonably busy. Only issue was with the banquette seating, which could be improved with some cushions to provide better back support (but thank you for giving my friend a rolled up towel!). Overall, excellent experience.
The staff are exceptional. As is the food. Outstanding service. 5 stars.
Great food (family style) with terrific engaged staff who really did try to make our experience better
One of the loveliest restaurants we’ve been to in a long time. We ate at another renowned Melbourne restaurant the next night and Hazel was better by far. Thankyou, it was a fantastic way to spend our anniversary. We’ll be back again!
Beautiful setting, high end experience, food is uniquely chosen and prepared. Sharing of multiple plates recommended. Toast is a specialty. We opted for zucchini and mint toast with cheese. Much enjoyed. Also had fresh fish though my daughter does not like skin on her fish. Pork noodle dish was our favorite. Noodles are thin and brown paired well with the small pork meatballs. Berry crumble dessert also much enjoyed though I was partial to the unusual cocktail. Service attentive and informative as well as friendly. Other patrons all looked happy with their selections as well. We will remember it as a special Melbourne experience.
Great ambience & food. Service fell short and let down the whole experience.
Lovely restaurant to bring in the new decade...what a great start to 2020; we felt like we were in New York. Food and service was outstanding, amazing ambience and a night we wont forget. Thank you Hazel x
Food was excellent. Service from our waitress was rushed and kept telling us that we needed to leave by x time, basically every time she came up to us.
Group of 4 had the chefs tasting menu amazing experience tried lots of new things and we really had loads of food. Staff were helpfil and attentive without hovering. Fabulous food and drinks
Amazing food in a gorgeous restaurant with lovely staff. I loved it all!
Amazing! Chef and team are incredible.
Family Xmas lunch
Casual relaxed atmosphere with very tasty gourmet cuisine. The pictures of Restraurant are a little misleading- very comfortable seating for six people - does not look so in the pictures.
I would recommend "Hazel" but with the caveat that one should request a downstairs table. Upstairs was much too noisy; grating at times. Downstairs noise levels were mostly and only occasionally intrusive. Perhaps this is meant to be a restaurant aimed at younger noiser diners but for a quiet dinner for two there could be other alternatives.
Nevertheless, we felt the food was very good, servings sized well and the service attentive. While one or two staff were clearly learning the ropes, the informality of the service added to its charm.
Generous space between tables, and a lovely ambience with high ceilings and a soothing colour palette across the fittings. Food was beautiful, service was very personal and prompt.
Great place to catch up with friends
You need to provide some sound dampening furnishings
Great food and service; very noisy though
Hazel presents as a modern fresh approach in an inner city location. The venue is beautiful and immediately creates a sense of something special. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable and offer a personalized service that creates instant rapport. The open kitchen provides a view into the pristine creative centre of the restaurant led by the amazing Zac Nicholson. Zac led a team of young chefs and provided us with a meal experience my family will talk about for a long time. Some of our highlights were the cocktails, the taste delighting entrees, sharing plates and the amazing anchovies toast. For our mains we were on awe of the steak and the duck was very popular. The desert of choice at our table was the creme brulee and the crumble. Exceptional food in an outstanding venue thanks to Zach and his team for creating an occasion to remember.
Excellent layout and ambience. The food overall was excellent although the Burnt eggplant dish did not meet that standard.
Beautiful food. Light, refreshing, flavoursome, good quantities. Great ambience and interior design on point
Food was a Bit disappointing
The ambient is great however the food is not as good as expected.
We ordered grilled lamb and grilled duck however, both dishes were only average.
The lamb has so many fat and the duck is tendered which is hard to chew.
Drinks are good though.
Beautiful setting, amazing service and delicious food. Would highly recommend Hazel. We went for my mums birthday lunch and we were taken care of so well!
Hi Rachel, thanks for joining us at Hazel for your mum's birthday. Glad to hear you enjoyed everything. Hope to see you again soon! Hazel
We loved our visit to Hazel over the weekend. The service was excellent and the food was simply devine. The oysters were melt in your mouth perfect. The duck liver and beef tartare on toast - delicious! The cape grim steak with leaf salad were lovely. Cocktails also good.
Thanks so much for your positive review. Hope to see you again soon. Cheers, Hazel.
Food was fabulous and service impeccable. We enjoyed a variety of dishes that we shared amongst the three of us. Highlights were the raw fish with Horseradish and desserts were delicious! Great wine choice as well.
Thanks so much for visiting Hazel and your kind words. We hope to see you at Hazel again soon. Thanks, Hazel Management.
Hazel was the perfect place for our small Saturday lunch. The staff were friendly and fun, and the menu was able to cater to diatries and was very reasonably priced. Try the pate and caramelised onions on toast.
Hi Pete, great to hear you enjoyed your visit to Hazel. The pate is pretty delicious. See you again soon. Thanks Hazel.
We attended Hazel for our work Christmas lunch. We booked at 3:30 for a large group and unfortunately were 25 minutes late to our booking due to our previous activity running overtime. This was communicated with the restaurant and we were advised the kitchen closed from 4pm-6pm. Unsure why you would take a booking at 3:30 for such a large group without communicating the kitchen closed at 4pm. For spending a lot of money, the experience all felt very rushed. No one said what food was what, meaning the vegetarian ate duck pate thinking it was vegetarian and the vegan having no idea what was vegan, it was all just plonked on the table. Pretty disappointing for a new opening. Wouldn’t recommend.
Hi Nicola. Sorry to hear about your recent experience at Hazel. We take these comments seriously and would love to welcome you back again for a true Hazel experience. Please email us and we can hopefully turn your negative experience into a positive. Thanks Hazel Management.
Best new restaurant with great food, wine and service!
Thanks so much for your kind words. Hope to see you again soon. Xo Hazel.
Delicious food and the service is fantastic. We'll be back!
So good to hear. See you again soon!
