About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for business meals
  • Lively
Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

Experiences

  • Sunday Roast

    Multiple dates available
Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

It was a bit expensive than other steakhouses, but the quality of the meat and the service staff were amazing and we were satisfied enough.

⸻ The portions were disappointingly small and definitely overpriced—$7.50 for a Diet Coke is absurd. The sides were tiny, and while the sirloin was tasty, the ribeye was a letdown. It certainly wasn’t 16 oz, and both the taste and presentation felt more like Outback than a high-end steakhouse. The only saving grace was our server, who was excellent.

Superb steak although very expensive; great service; restaurant was very loud - but not conversation stopping. It’s a lovely room and the ambience is good overall. The waiter comped us some unordered mashed potatoes - which was kind (if calculating) and not very thoughtful as we’d already ordered fries and mac/cheese so we were properly carbed up already. Still - it’s the thought. Too expensive to eat here regularly but as a one off it’s a real treat

Had the Sunday roast. It was good concept but the meat was tough. Will Definitely come back and try it again but we all agreed that we would upgrade on the meat.

The best Sunday lunch in town. The Brits do beef better. It’s just the truth. And don’t dare leave without trying a sticky toffee pudding.
