Half Acre's stunning open kitchen sets the scene for a relaxed, comfortable, intimate, and rustic dining and event experience. Inspired by seasonal, modern cooking, with a focus on farm to table practices and local, ethical sourcing.
Half Acre has an 85 seat glasshouse dining room with a 12 seat semi-private dining room attached, along with luscious outdoors courtyard and separate under cover, heated bar area.
Great food and menu! Just a little noisy even if it is a lovely open space.
the service was terrible. it took ages for us to get our drinks, the waitress took our order but forgot about it, one of the waitresses spoke so quickly we couldn't understand her, they kept calling us 'ladies' in a very patronising way.
i requested a particular table and was told we would be seated there. i told the manager when i booked that it was a birthday and could they please put a candle in the dessert. my request was ignored. we were sat in an area that was dark and had a faulty light fixture, no special effort was made around the birthday celebration.
VERY DISAPPOINTING !!!
i had been there before and love the food.
Such a cool concept with the bottomless brunch. Staff was so friendly and nice and seemed genuinely happy in their job. Music was very chilled and cool! Loved it all!
Thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our evening at Half Acre. Great food, service & ambience. Will certainly be back. Found the $79 set menu great value. Small round table for 2 was a little small especially when endeavouring to accommodate several shared dishes at once (food for thought!!) Thx
Convenient location, great ambience, friendly staff, interesting & very tasty food. Our second visit, we will be back. : )
Unfortunately our first impressions weren’t good. We were kept waiting for our table for about 20 mins. We had to approach 2 waiters for assistance. It didn’t set things up very well. Such a shame. I think a nice touch would’ve been a complimentary drink to apologise.
The food was so delicious, and a great variety for all. Definitely good value for money. The staff were really good to deal with when I made the booking
Staff were not particularly interested in serving four women dining together. to celebrate a birthday.
Wine was slow to arrive, or food too fast, we were already well into first servings before wine was served. We actually asked them to slow down the arrival of dishes, or we would have been done and dusted within an hour. Food was ok, but nothing special, (we shared the ‘half acre’ menu, it seemed rather heavy on the smoked flavours.
The food concept is creative and the flavours are amazing, with a lovely environment making the most of natural light even in the middle of winter. Hosts are engaging and check in enough at appropriate times to ensure the flow of food and drink are consistent. The combination of the kitchen and eating area works well in creating a vibrant and lively environment. Have and will recommend to all my friends
Ran out of spiced vodka in less than half and he. We were there on time. This vodka was advertised. Staff handled it poorly and were not apologetic. If we come a long way and book something for 60 dollars, they should fulfil what they promise or at least be gracious when they can’t
I’d recommend however not for the weekend brunch/lunch. It’s a beautiful setting and the food was quite nice, however not enough for vegetarians. I also don’t think the make your own drink bar works, because I’m not a bartender and don’t know what I’m doing, nor do I want to. Part of the experience of not eating at home is being waited on and served by industry professionals. Constantly having to get up for food AND drinks took away from that experience. However I’m looking forward to coming back during the week.
A beautiful space, lending it myself well to its sophisticated brunch menu. Staff were fun and overall provided a great atmosphere. My friends and I weren’t sure about a DIY vodka & spritz bar at first but we managed to get suitably imbibed despite the approach. Wonderful for a special occasion and excellent value for money.
Delicious food, beautiful venue, friendly staff and some delicious drinks! Would absolutely recommend the bottomless lunch, the chilli vodka is a must try! The food did look like it had been absolutely demolished at one point about an hour in, but it was completely replenished within 10 minutes with amazing fresh food (not that we could fit any more in).
Half Acre is genuinely a hidden gem..... the atmosphere is warm and energetic, it has great spaces including a private dining room, bar, terrace, main restaurant and function rooms - great decor and feeling through out. Service is warm and friendly and authentic.
The food is fantastic - a selection of pizzas, lots of vegetable and side options. The cauliflower with tahini cream is a standout favourite, as is the roasted chicken with curried pumpkin.
Great wine list. All round great place for lunch, dinner, anything.
The only minor drawback is the location - it's in the middle of an industrial area in Port Melbourne. It's certainly not easy to get to. But it's worth it regardless!!
Vegetarian dishes at Half Acre are delicious. Lovely flavours and fresh. The wine list is underwhelming, better choice at same price would be easy to achieve. Get rid of bottled beer and offer greater range on tap. Have eaten here twice and have enjoyed the vegetable dishes immensely both times.
It was a bit noisy due to the function wedding and we were asked to leave the table by 8.45pm for the 2nd service., which didn't leave us time for dessert/coffees. Otherwise the food was fantastic.
We enjoyed our lunch at Half Acre, the carrot salad was delicious as was the corn dish, both full of flavour although I would have preferred the corn to be warm instead of cold, however the flavour was so delicious it made up for that slight disappointment. The potatoes were fantastic and the only downside was the Flounder main we shared. It was dry and difficult to eat. The room has a great atmosphere but it was very noisy. Difficult to overcome in a large space. We will definitely return and hopefully there won’t be as many large tables making it hard to make conversation.
Loved our meal and night at Half Acre, beautiful food, great atmosphere. A new favourite!!
Should have an option for a feed me for two for date nights
Food is lovely and its a cosy environment, lovely.
We've been to Half Acre a few times and always have enjoyed the food, ambiance and general vibe. More recently we've been bit disappointed in the size of the portions, particularly the meat dishes. The chicken is menu'd as a half chicken however it should be a half "petit pousson", its that small. There were 4 of us dining and we were still not fully satisfied at the amount of food we had. We had the flatbread, calamari, corn, pumpkin, cauliflower and the chicken. We then added the lamb. We finished with a shared desert and coffee. The pace at which the food arrives can also be of a "fast food" nature unless one requests a slower process.
Food was beautiful and the staff were attentive.
Wine list pretty good.
The downside is that it is so noisy hard to hear each other across the table.
This is the second time we have been and we had hoped outside race season it would be quieter but seems not.
Still an enjoyable evening.
First time experiencing a bottomless brunch and half acre you did not disappoint. With several bottomless brunches I have seen this has to be the one that is money for your buck. With buffet food available this suited my friends needs aswell as one who was vegan, and found the food accommodating. The drinks were great, going up and helping yourself, really made the experience, I wish there was more to choose from such as soft drinks and Juice, overall would 100% come back!
Delicious food and great atmosphere - the bottomless brunch was delicious and fun!
We had a lovely night. Food and service was excellent only criticism the music was a little loud.
Freshest ever produce, thoughtfully and beautifully prepared. Execution and presentation creative and innovative. Wine list could be a little more extensive. Love it overall - friendly accommodating staff.
Loved it. Lovely ambience. I would highly recommend visiting Half Acre.
As far as bottomless brunches go, this self serve idea was not amazing. You spent alot of the time waiting in queues for drinks (limit of 2 each) and to get food.
The service was virtually non-existant, as noone smiled and waitresses were down right rude.
It is a lovely venue and could be something special but I will not return to a place that charges $65 for a sizzler style line up treat you like cattle kind of thing.
Great atmosphere, great food , very cosy , staff were beautiful, I’d go again and again 👍
Lovely space and fantastic attentive staff. The food was lovely however I did find the food cool/cold -we had the calamari and the pork. Secondly the dessert was disappointing, cold crumble -not a fan particularly when it’s a winter evening.
The food was so delicious with the perfect flavours. Lots to choose from, staff were very attentive and friendly. Great atmosphere and feel to the place, will definitely be back.
I’d dined previously and love it, so recommend the venue to a group of friends for a catch up. We dined with a party of 6, including a vegetarian. To make it easy, opted for the set menu. Majority of which was vegetarian but for the meat course the vegetarian guest was not given a dish to replace the course. Upon querying the issue, we were told usually the first couple of courses (vegetarian) are spread out so there is always something available for the vegetarians. However, for a guest paying the same amount for a set menu you would expect a replacement dish/course at least. Unacceptable for Melbourne’s standard of dining. We also asked if the price of her menu could be compensated for the reduced number of courses she received. This was apparently communicated to the manager but never discussed further or made its way to the bill.
What started off as a lovely meal, soon turned sour at toward the end and topped off with the dessert course hitting the table with one serving featuring only 2 small pieces of chocolate cake to cater 6 people (after looking at the neighbouring table, also a table of 6, who received 2 servings with 4 pieces). Again, we had to raise the discrepancy with our waitress before receiving the correct amount.
Thank you for an amazing morning.
Everything was perfect
Food and setting are great. We all found it a bit too warm inside and the music was just a little bit too loud. Otherwise absolutely fabulous
Tasty food and friendly attentive staff!
Great set up and will be back for sure
Outstanding restaurant in a beautiful setting
Nicely presented and creatively prepared diverse and nutritious fare. Pricy, but service and dining experience were very pleasant.
But things will need to improve if this is to be a regular event for us. Gap between entre and mains was excessive and whilst the food was good it was not exceptional. Special steak was only just okay. Great table service and great venue.
Our food was very enjoyable and service attentive, however it felt a little rushed at times. Not much of a break between courses, but we do enjoy the atmosphere, style and concept of this hidden gem.
My girl friends and I went to Half Acre for their Bottomless Brunch on Sunday. I live right around the corner, so I have been wanting to try it for a while and I am so happy I did. The food was absolutely delicious. Highlights were the house smoked salmon, roast cabbage with goats cheese and chimichurri, and of course the challah french toast with plum and blueberry compotes. Absolutely heavenly.
To top it off, the DIY vodka bar was even better than expected. They had a couple infused vodkas along with a plain one and really delicious juices and garnishes that allows you whip up countless different cocktails! A personal favorite was the cinnamon spiced vodka (with a splash of pear juice) paired with the house-made lemonade. Refreshing and delicious.
The best part is, you could get as much food and try as many different cocktail combinations as you wanted! Value for money was great. I will definitely be back to Half Acre to try their other offerings!
