Half Acre
The Eatery & Bar offer seasonally focused dishes — using traditional cooking methods - on an open fireplace and in a wood-fired oven.
Half Acre has a 75 seat glasshouse dining room which opens into a luscious courtyard, with a 12 seat semi-private dining room attached.
Half Acre bar is no different, we aim to source the best local products in beer, wine and spirits. With 9 Australian beers on tap, including local collaborations with Victorian brewers.
The grandeur of the old mill – with its exposed brick walls and soaring stained timber ceilings dates back to the early 1900s. Built in 1912 the building was originally used as a paper mill and then used by the country roads board. It sets the scene for a relaxed, comfortable, intimate, and rustic dining and event experience.
Absolutely exceptional! Beautiful space and will definitely be back again soon!
A place where heaven meets earth!
Loved the ambience and decor. It was only matched by the fantastic food and view to the open kitchen. Was my first time dining at half acre and it’s definitely becoming one of my favorites!
Took my partner here for his birthday the other night and had a fantastic meal. The food is great and not at all overly priced for the quality. I will say the pizza isn't anything special, I'd probably give it a miss, but the cabbage and the kingfish are absolute must haves. Really beautiful space and gorgeous drinks as well. Will definitely be coming back here. Would be perfect for date night, lunch with friends, events, anything!
The bar was awesome and made a great impression on us walking in, but when we moved to the restaurant we felt disappointed. It was a bit like the dining room at a church camp. The food was ok but not brilliant and for the price we paid, I expected to be impressed but wasn’t. The service was excellent though and should be commended.
We and our friends had a great time, this is my second visit, would highly recommend to others.
Absolutely amazing. The venue, the food, the drinks and the staff!! Can’t wait to go back.
Food, service was lovely but it was bit noisy. I would prefer going in the morning in comparison to evening. Food is yumm and consistent.
Amazing food, service, ambience. Seriously tasty sharing plates which leave you wanting more. Rustic and authentic dishes which tantalise ervy single taste bud. Thoroughly recommended and I can't wait to go back for more!!!
Our second visit in two weeks. We took guests who were very impressed with the food and ambiance.
We had a lovely dinner on Sunday night at Half Acre. The food was superb as were the cocktails. However we found it difficult to get our drinks refilled (hard to get the staff's attention) and we were never offered a wine list or asked if we would like wine with our meal. A missed sales opportunity as we would have spent money on bottles of wine. Staff could be more attentive, otherwise we really enjoyed it!
Service was all over the place. Three different people came up and asked if we wanted drinks, or if we had ordered or if we had had our food yet. Red wine was spilt because the tables are so small and rocky and the staff took a long time to notice and assist.
Food was quite nice, although serloin steak had quite a bit of grissle. Cabbage was delicious. Liked the open kitchen. Staff were friendly.
All in all wouldn't go back.
Food is amazing as is the venue...attentiveness of table service was not great, we had to actively catch the waiters attention to get service for drinks or anything outside of the initial order. The staff were friendly and professional and probably the best G&T in town!
Was a beautiful night and perfect for this venue. We ate early which was probably a good idea as it was quite full by the time we left. Definitely book. Food was good as was the service.
Beautiful setting and amazing food! Service still needs to match the venue and food.
Excellent.
My only issue was the sun coming in through the roof light at lunchtime.
lucky yo have such a great place as my local! brilliant
A most wonderful dining experience. Well worth the 30 minute drive from our house.
My only recommendation would be a short menu for children. Sometimes we can't get a babysitter in time!
Even one pasta or fish option for them would be worth considering.
I love amazing food and finding gems, this restaurant is seriously up there as one of my favourites! Loved everything about it.
Such a great spot, amazing food, and value for money. Really impressed and will be back again and again!
Excellent food, service and venue. Will definitely come again and would easily recommend to anyone looking for a feed or a place to drink
Amazing and delicious food , every dish is tasty and one is never enough . Design & atmosphere of restaurant is also divine .
Easy parking, reasonable price, great interior, good wine list, true to ingredient food <3
Defs going back!
Local to the area we thought we would try somewhere different but still local to our normal restaurants.
Half acre certainly did not disappoint.
It was truly was a tastebud treat, and in an ambience that is very different to the normal cramped up, everyday restaurants that you find inner city. Half Acre has a very open feel, the garden views not far away and a spectacular bar as well.
The menu presents itself as more of a list to do, rather than, what might gamble on tonight. I found myself allocating what I will have in my next visit, and then after the meal I was already considering what I'm going to try over the coming weeks.
The staff were very attentive and looked as though they all enjoyed being there as much as we did.
I will continue to visit this gem of a place without a doubt.

Really great food and ambiance. Friendly service. Only thing I would suggest is they need to have MilkBar for almond milk 😂😂😂👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
We loved Half Acre- the service was fantastic and the food was delicious and the homemade bread started and ended our meal!! Who needs dessert right? The only criticism we had was that we felt we were shouting for most of the meal, as the noise levels really heightened once the restaurant filled up. We will be back to try the pizza!!
love the place but u lost my umbrella. Twice there and both times not quite sure where to pay.
I do love the food and service. X
I felt like I was eating in a winery in the Yarra Valley but I was in South Melbourne
bit loud due to layout but everything else was mint
Amazing food, stylish venue and lovely staff!
Would definitely recommend.
My partner and I had a wonderful time at Half Acre. We went for lunch on a Sunday and had such a wonderful meal. The food was so fresh and delicious, the wine was beautiful and the actual venue is so stunning. The staff were so friendly and helpful and overall we had such a great time. I would love to go back for dinner. Highly recommend Half Acre!
Great night. Fabulous food. Just a bit noisy
Yummy food and good quality ingredients, lovely place to sit and enjoy the company of otherwise, impressive room for a special birthday or event
This gem is tucked away in a quiet pocket of South Melbourne - As soon as you enter the venue you find yourself in unexpected awe. The warehouse style fitout is perfect for this venue with an ample amount of seating which will cater for all seasons.
We dined at 7:15pm so the place was buzzing with chatter which created a good vibe - The music was also not too loud which is my preference when it comes to dining (I dislike having to yell when conversing due to loud music).
Food and wine was bang on - All absolutely delicious and presented well, but I must say my absolute fav was the chocolate dessert - I would hands down come back just for this cake! Service was also amazing - Great with suggestions, not pushy, very friendly and professional. Would highly recommend this place for dates or larger groups.
Great new venue that I visited with 3 friends mid week. It's out of the way in South Melbourne so easy to park. We had a pescatarian with us so the menu was absolutely perfect. The menu is creative enough to keep people who want different flavours and will also appeal to those that need simpler tastes. The staff are obliging if you want to leave off some spices/herbs. We enjoyed everything that we ordered - we all shared . I would say the biggest downside for us is that the acoustics are bad and made for a really noisy evening and hard to hear. I did like the small area in the front that accommodated a group of around 10 or so - much quieter space but missing the ambiance of the place. Worth a visit for dinner and assume would be great for brunch also.
Food was fantastic however some room for improvement on the service as they missed a couple of dishes in our order (we did have a table of 9 people so can be forgiven).
The food was good but need more improvement. The atmosphere is excellent but I think it could be loud if the restaurant is packed out. Very hard for my friends and I to converse directly.
Tasty and hearty food although some dishes were too oily
The pizza could be better but the chicken was so delicious!
There is a good variety of choices on the menu so its best to have a play.
The desert and cocktail was nothing special.
Service was excellent in the beginning but midway through the evening it wasn't as good. It seemed a bit unorganised.
I would definitely go again but I'd order other dishes.
ve the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes.
Beautiful, smokey, flavourful food. A very considered yet well priced wine list. Balanced service that is not too 'in your face' but attentive and friendly. All set in a beautiful, open, renovated space with a lovely courtyard area for outdoor drinks/dining. We loved it and will be back!
