We have been to Gwen two times before and loved the ambiance and the food, as well as the attentiveness of the staff. However, this past visit, on a Saturday night, we were seated in the upstairs dining area which has a completely different environment from the beautifully appointed and decorated downstairs. It feels like an after thought and looks like it was not remodeled since the previous business. It is close quarters upstairs and sitting in the "cafe" spaced tables, made it difficult to have an intimate dinner conversation. The food was wonderful as usual, but the cocktail prices have gone from $15 to $20, which seemed unnecessary. Our server appeared to be on his first night and was stressed about being over seated. Overall, it was an awkward visit
Brilliant, witty and exceptional
Gwen has become one of my very favorite LA restaurants! Though I love most "fancy" restaurants that
I go to, for whatever reason I only go back again to very few of them, Gwen is one of them. I just love
this restaurant! The staff makes you feel special and comfortable from the moment you arrive. The
food is spectacular, the wine is the best (as Gwen is owned by an Australian its Australian wines are among
the best wines I'ver ever had at a restaurant), the service is efficient and very professional. It doesn't
hurt that I am partial to Australia. I can't wait to return to Gwen!
LOVED this restaurant. There were 3 of us celebrating a birthday. We had the tasting menu. Each course was delicious, cooked perfectly and was presented beautifully. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Can't wait to go back!
Very good resto! I recommand it if you want to eat very good beef!!
Gwen was amazing, the service, food and wine list were all exceptional and I will be back!
The service, ambience and food was just perfect with a wine list second to none. We had a wonderful evening.
Overall great food but not stand out from others.
The service at Gwen is mediocre. The waiter could not explain the menu options clearly and did not get our drink orders correctly. In addition, servers repeatedly interrupted the meal and several times got their signals crossed.
The New York strip steaks were tasty and perfectly prepared as were the vegetables (beets). The desserts were light and fresh, and the bread served with the meal were excellent.
The food is very expensive ($67 for a non-aged steak). At that price, Gwen should have come up with at least 16 oz. instead of what appeared to be only 10-12 oz. Given the price, the service should be much better. The reservation process is also off-putting.
Gwen is one of the best steakhouses in LA. The go to items are the charcuterie, lamb ribs, dry aged ribeye or the wagyu version, diver scallops, and creamed leeks. The setting has a lot of atmosphere, especially at night with the dimmed lights in the dining area and the glowing fire at the kitchen. The upstairs has a different type of intimate, and cozy vibe.
The is amazing food. House cured meats are great, service was terrific, the bread was quite possibly the best bread in a restaurant. The place has a great vibe, beautiful space but be warned, it’s insanely expensive so be prepared to open the wallet wide. Only complaint I have is the punitive corkage price. Let people bring wine without punishing them for doing so!
Amazing dinner experience. Great cocktails and great service.
Great food and service. Steaks were excellent. Would recommend sitting downstairs
Amazing service. Great food. Pricey but for a special occasion a great spot.
Amazing service from the moment we stepped in the door. Complimentary champagne for our honeymoon, amazing staff who knew the menu like the back of their hand and food that brought me to tears. Absolute recommendation for anyone coming to LA.
Great food. Obscenely overpriced.
Looks that the waiter knew the menu by memory, they took long in each level of service.
Best steak in LA. Excellent service. One of my favorites.
This is our "go to" restaurant for special occasions. The food is always great! Although, all waiters should speak more slowly, when explaining the specials, & detailing the menu items.
We went for our anniversary, and we're welcomed with champagne by our server. The food was fantastic, the service was great. It takes a bbut of time to cook a steak, but it's well worth it. We loved this place.
A lovely evening at this Sunset eatery: appealing atmosphere and decor (Art Deco meets industrial light chic), innovative and delicious dishes, and a well-trained and professional staff made our dinner a special occasion. Kudos to Morgan the Wine Director for an excellent recommendation of a Spanish red (Mencia) that was literally singing that night!
Pretentious and over-priced with an extremely rude manager. Never going back, would not recommend it to anyone.
We really loved it. If there is a concern it is that some of the appetizer and side portions are on the small side for the price. All delicious and portions more suited for 2 than 4
had a nice time on Saturday, great drinks and ambiance. Food was a bit underwhelming. We got the bone in ribeye and were told the chef's recommendation was med-rare. Unfortunately it came more rare than we expected... kind of disappointing considering the price point..
Food was fine. They specialize in fresh cut meats from the butcher shop in front of the restaurant. Our server was horrible. He never checked on us. Never refilled our glasses and just disappeared at the end of the meal.
A meat lovers haven. “The best lamb I have ever had” per my hubby. My sea bream was also delicious and made to perfection.
The service was sporadic ... the wine service was practically non existent ... the food was good ...
I wouldn't tell someone they must go there.
Noisy. Understaffed. Slow service. Good meat though but it is the second time i am disappointed in tjem
The food was wonderful as was all the attention we received from the staff. I'd go back "early and often".
Too noisy, could not carry on a conversation. Food was good but not exceptional.
Extraordinarily delicious, everything, especially the cocktails and the incredible steak.
They gave sparking wine as compliments for our anniversary celebration.
Meat really wasn’t amazing. Sides were rather poor too. Waiter had no clue about the meats, what I would expect for a butcher shop. Spare this one.
Service was amazing. Best steak ever! Not enough gluten free options and waiter should have been aware of birthday and gluten allergy since someone called the day before for that information. I would have preferred that knowledge over the steak knife presentation
From the food to the service everything was on point. Visiting LA from Seattle and Gwen blows restaurants like Canlis, and Daniel’s Broiler out of the water. I’ll go as far and say that Gwen is on my list of top 5 restaurants I have ever visited. I’m looking forward to visiting Gwen’s sister restaurant, Maude soon. Thank you to the incredible waitstaff!!
We’ve eaten at Gwen twice. Both times have been absolutely outstanding. Great service from Austin the first time and Allen the second. One of our favorite places to eat in LA.
Really loved the joint super friendly and very attentive to guests. I wish the owner would make his presence more known at least pass by the tables and wave or greet some guests since he’s the main reason for visiting. Give 10 ⭐️ ⭐️
Absolutely delicious food!!
