Perfect double date spot with excellent food!
Love the food, love the decor, and the incredible service.
Excellent food, very happy with everything we ordered; waiter and sommelier were both very knowledgeable and helped find a couple of great wines. Overall extraordinarily expensive for the value and ambiance. Unless you have a big group, definitely ask to be seated on the main level or at the bar; the upstairs room had little ambiance or energy. Rather disappointing for a Saturday night!
The food is amazing but the menu is somewhat limited. The decor is nothing fancy but nice.
Fully met expectations!! Loved it! Perfect amount of perfect tasty food!!
Excellent Restaurant, steaks are outstanding.
We LOVED the service, ambiance and food selection. Everyone on the wait staff was kind, enabling and authentic. So loved the food, the apps and the drinks. Triple threat!
great as usual. tasting menus is the way to go, but always add a few additional items and upgrade he meat course.
Paid $150 for a T-bone steak that tasted worse than what I could buy for $20 at Costco. The fillet side of the T-bone was about 1 ounce. What a highway robbery.Stay away from this overly expensive restaurant.
Best steak house in L.A.
Everything is perfect in this place.
This place was AMAZING! The charcuterie plate was delicious and perfectly balanced. They had a porterhouse special that evening that was perfect for our group. The seasoning was spot on and it was cooked perfectly. The sides were delectable, and service was outstanding. Definitely worth it to splurge here!
We had an amazing evening at Gwen last Thursday. Allen our server made it a memorable evening. His knowledge and sense of humor added to the experience. The tasting menu offers a great way to try different items. The presentation as well as the taste will bring us back again!
We were on vacation looking for a good steakhouse before a theater show. Recognized Curtis Stone from all his TV appearances. Was excited to try his restaurant with unique cooking technique. Unfortunately, for the price we were disappointed with flavor. Our server was a bit standoffish but when asked if the 80 day aged ribeye was worth the money he of course said yes. But we really didn’t get the amazing flavor we expected. In the end, we didn’t think the meal was worth the prices being charged.
300$ later we got an irritated server and bad upset stomach.. Everyone was really great and attentive except of our Server, he acted like he doesn’t hear and doesn’t understand us (maybe because we have an accent), however he had no interest in answering our questions and tried to brush us off as soon as possible. He acted like we are completely stupid when I asked why is this steak 250$. It was my wife’s Birthday so I was pretty upset about the experience. Our server acted like we got lost and this place is totally out of our league. There was no Birthday dessert and no one mentioned it. I chose this place based on good ratings but my experience was a little different. Food was good but I don’t this it was “300$ good”. We ordered dessert- it was 14$ and it was just ok. Coffee was great. Overall presentation and service is great, I just don’t think prices are justified and we got unlucky with our Server.
Overall great experience. The cocktails were awesome and so was the food. Only negative here, is the value for what you are getting. Cocktails range from $15-$20.. $20 for a spin on negroni seems like a lot. The food was really tasty but again portions were small for the price. My friends and I are not cheap when it comes to good food and drinks but feel like we did not get as much for our money, as other restaurants like Chi Spacca.
Just amazing!!!...our 2nd time there n still great!!
Very comfortable, service was good. Most of us really enjoyed our meal. Describing the history of each steak knife felt a little precious and over the top but other people might be into that. Not sure it was worth the money to go back multiple times but for a special occasion or to just try something new, it was lovely.
Can’t wait to go back!
Amazing. Duck fat potatoes are insane but the meat and charcuterie take the prize. Stunning restaurant.
Ordered all the sides and 2 steaks, charcuterie and we all needed at least 9 seconds after each bite to fully appreciate the sublime flavors of what we were eating. My new favorite dining in LA.
Overpriced, small portions and limited options for “normal” wine prices. You pay for the hype
Indulge yourself for a night of culinary bliss. Gwen is special and for a typical date night with my wife, we chose Gwen to experience this and Gwen did not fail us. From greeting to service, Gwen was as expected and on point. The food was exquisite and flavorful as we ordered the Taste of Gwen. I upgrade our entrée to the 30-day aged Bone Rib-Eye 34 ounce. I will tell you that this was one of my favorite meal as of to date. For the readers, if you bring love one and you want to experience a special dining experience, please try Gwen. You wont be disappointed.
Having visited Maude on a number of occasions, my husband and I were excited to try Gwen. Made a reservation for his birthday for a party of four. Food was good. The server brought us warm bread and normandy butter to start, which was really good. We ordered the oysters, market salad and wagu tartare to share. I don't eat wagu but was told it was awesome, the oysters and market salad were superb. We then ordered the 80 day rib eye, snap peas, duck fat potatoes and duck. They also have a 30 day rib eye, and when one of our guests asked what the difference was, we were flippantly told 50 days. Even though I found this amusing, it was not acceptable, given we were about to pay $250 for a steak! We had also asked the server to slow things down a bit, as the food was coming out really fast. She clearly did not like this, and service after this point went downhill. When we asked for a recommendation for dessert, she gave her opinion over her shoulder as she was walking away; quite rude if you ask me. When were were served our coffee, we were not given cream or sugar, or even asked if we wanted any. We spent close to $1,000 for a party of four, and were left feeling a little disappointed. For me personally, the steaks, which are what they are known for (after all, they have a butcher's shop on the premises), were just okay. I can pay less for an equally as good, if not better, steak at Mastro's in Beverly Hills (which we visit quite frequently). I'm glad we came to Gwen, and although there were some great dishes, I do not see myself coming back for a second visit.
Amazing food , amazing service, but sitting upstairs is not pleasant at all ! Besides being so depressing, smells bad too.
We Ubered there, so I can't comment on parking. Im not a fan of the dirt and bums of Hollywood, and from the outside Gwen looks very humble. We got our table immediately but got worried when we had to wait for menus and water. But as soon as the wait staff got settled everything was amazing. We even ate all the bread, it was that good. Like authentic Italian pizza crust. The service was present but not intrusive. Each dish perfectly timed, and frankly delicious. We would have a hard time finding something to complain about on each plate. There were even little additions on the plate which were great surprises. Some nice touches, when I dropped butter all over myself, our server offered his personal wet wipe and paper napkins to get the stain out. The staff was considerate of those of us headed to the theater, and they provided an Uber on time for free to get is there. With a manager waiting outside to signal us. We left feeling just right, and talking about the dishes we enjoyed.
We arrived a little late to our reservation but they were very accommodating. The food was excellent and the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. It is quite pricey so would only suggest for special occasions. However, the experience was great overall.
Absolutely incredible- definitely a must try
The atmosphere and ambience is beautiful - the drinks were delicious too. The service could've have been better, our initial server had a bad attitude and it would've been helpful when our second waiter, who took our order, could've explained the portion sizes better.
When explaining the menu is family style, he failed to mention the portions are toddler size. It would've been good to know that a "lobster roll" is actually 2 bites..then we would've ordered multiple for the table.
We also ordered the lamb, mackerel and a side of asparagus. Again, the portion sizes were not family style and had we known, we would've ordered more - I think the servers should suggest items or ask their guests how hungry they are and help them choose.
Both the oyster and the bread for the table were my two favorite of all the dishes..the bread was perfectly salted and warm.
Quite frankly it was a very expensive and over priced "meal" that was "ok" and I won't be running back just to leave hungry.
Absolutely amazing service, atmosphere, food, wine, everything. The chateaubriand was exquisite. Definitely coming back.
An amazing dining experience. High quality people and food.
We dine there last night for our 3rd anniversary and I have to say it was one of the WORST services we have ever received at any restaurant in LA by Mary Ellen.
When we got there the server Mary Ellen knew it was our 3rd anniversary so she brought out 2 champagne flutes I told her my husband doesn’t drink and she was like oh poured me and glass and never offered him anything until flagged her down and was like can he get an ice tea and she was like oh ya.
Then she finally gave us menus never went over the menu or what the Gwen tasting menu was.
She came back over 5 mins later and we ordered
We got the lobster roll and steak tartar to start with both of those appetizer were amazing
For entrees we got the scallop dish and the $185 Waygu NY medium rare duck fat fries and asparagus
Well when our entrees were dropped our server never checked on us we ordered the Waygu NY medium rare and it came out rare and overly salty. After about 10 mins we flagged down a gentleman in a suit Mary Ellen was no where in sight. To let him know it was underdone he went and up the temp on a few pieces another server dropped the Re fire still no Mary Ellen and they put even more salt on the Re fired pieces. Finally we flagged down another gentleman in a suit which I think was the GM super nice guy told him what was going on then all of a sudden we see Mary Ellen standing at the hostess stand watching us talk to him very unprofessional. He went and took all the food away mind you we probably only ate 4 pieces of a $185 steak. He comped 2 drinks and the lobster roll the GM dropped the check and we paid with him. Finally Mary Ellen shows back up doesn’t ask how anything. Just basically asked if she can pick the check up we said yes she grabbed it and walked away.
We literally walked out of the restaurant still hungry. Maybe it was an off night. But disappointing none the less when you pay $185 for a steak and it wasn’t even cooked right.Maybe my expectations were to high for the place
Great food, great service and great ambiance! Steak was cooked to perfection. Service was also exemplary. Can't go wrong with this place. Only VERY minor gripe - they don't carry soda (for some people Coke is a must with dinner!).
We went as a party of 6 to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. However, for the money, I would rather go to Mastro's. They have a strict cancellation policy, charging $50 per person for any change in reservation. When going with a group of friends, the cancellation policy, is an unappreciated burden. The ambiance is very casual, but with the expensive menu, I wanted more of an upscale vibe to match the pricey tab. The steak automatically comes medium rare, and to send it back to ask for more well-done meat, seemed offensive. The food was very flavorful, but the menu options (aside from the meat) really lacked creativity and sophistication. Our waiter that night was rude, making snide comments and snarking that "he told us already 5 times" that the meat takes 45 min to prepare. Drinks were slow to arrive and the drink menu was not inspiring. (Corkage fee is $50 too!) Next time around, I will take my money elsewhere. As a matter of fact, I'll be at Mastro's!
The service was spectacular. The food incredible. Is the up charge a bit much, yes. But would go back tomorrow.
Started with the Lamb Ribs. Cooked to perfection and the yogurt was a nice touch. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Next a Market Salad: Market is right. The whole market. I was alone but you could share this amazing salad.
Spanish Mackerel and Snow Peas for the main. The fish was prepared perfectly. Not over cooked at all. The snow peas could use a little less oil, but tasted great.
The Manior du Capucin, Pouilly-Fuisse, Macon, Burgundy, FR. 2017 was on point and went well with the lamb and fish.
Blackberry Frangipane FTW!
One of the best Steaks I have had in a long time. They don’t rush you. It is relaxed yet attentive.
We went on a Sunday nite so it wasn’t crowded and made it easy to have a conversation. The food was very good. We had the New York strip(wonderful), scallops (really good but just 3 and nothing else served on plate although they advertised it with something but that was just a garnish), fries( disappointing—too chunky and dry— ,market salad(wonderful) and panda cotta(good) and the most wonderful bread and Normandy butter(gratis).
We were warmly greeted(owners brother) and immediately seated. After that, our service was average, not up to a restaurant of this level. He came back once to see how we liked our food but never again until we asked for the bill. We had to flag him down for another glass of wine and never offered a water or bread refill.
10/10 experience. We cannot wait to come back!
We have been to Gwen two times before and loved the ambiance and the food, as well as the attentiveness of the staff. However, this past visit, on a Saturday night, we were seated in the upstairs dining area which has a completely different environment from the beautifully appointed and decorated downstairs. It feels like an after thought and looks like it was not remodeled since the previous business. It is close quarters upstairs and sitting in the "cafe" spaced tables, made it difficult to have an intimate dinner conversation. The food was wonderful as usual, but the cocktail prices have gone from $15 to $20, which seemed unnecessary. Our server appeared to be on his first night and was stressed about being over seated. Overall, it was an awkward visit
Food selections paired with broad wine list were amazing. They could ease off on the salt for meets though everything we ordered was almost perfect. Great ambiance! We’ll come back.
Brilliant, witty and exceptional
