Grossi - Grill
“In my earliest memories of childhood I can see the kitchen, a place where all would come, filled with these familiar smells, and the laughter of people that love each other and with the anticipation of flavours to come”. ?Guy Grossi
The Grill is the embodiment of this, personal service and the buzz of the open kitchen creating a magnificent atmosphere. One that is centred around ‘La Griglia’, where the Grill derives its name, is always full of the finest aged meats sourced from various producers, and the constant quest for the best quality ingredients. This is a fundamental of our philosophy. The Grill is truly an extension of the Italian kitchen’s soul.
A terrific all round experience.
Great food, not inexpensive, but you are soaking in the superb service, the friendly atmosphere and the energy of the place.
Even better when we started chatting with the people on the table next to us...great fun evening!
My wife and I have been eating up stairs for many year but thought we'd shout our 3 friends down stair's in bistro.
( we shared a selection of entrees to start followed by mains and 2 deserts to share.
Value for money was poor in particular the entrees - Very expensive and poor value for bistro style eating. Not the Italian way.
Entrees all $30+ way way over priced for size. Menu stated Calamari as entree, but it was actually squid??? @ $32 ummm . Octopus entree had 5 small very pieces, Baccala served on on Pita,, just 2 mouth fulls.
Entree size pasta with Crab,, very very tasty but way too small . Just a few mouth full
Main Steaks at $50 didn't come with any salad or potato's. For bistro menu .. had to pay extra for small tiny garden salad and potato's.
Cheapest bottle of wine on the menu $75... for French Rose.
Will be eating in the suburbs next time or next time at pellegrines. You should check our Vaperetto, Mr Bianco our locals?
Wonderful food with alot of options on the menu for everyone! Wine list was great! Service was outstanding. The did miss one of our entree's but we're absolute wonderful about it and fixed it very promptly without any questions! and brought us a complimentary side!
Cannot recommend enough, worth a look!
We hadn't been to the Grill for about 4 years as a 'track suit and runners' set seemed to have taken over the place then. We went to the Cellar Bar on Monday then the Grill Wednesday. Both excellent. Have put Grossi back on our list...might even venture upstairs...
Amazing Italian food and the espresso martinis are to die for!
Food was delicious and the service was very attentive. We were a bit rushed and I will definitely go back when we can have a more leisurely dinner. The only thing that irked us was the wine list- it’s confusing/misleading. We ordered a bottle of wine thinking it was $47 however it turns out this was the carafe of wine. Didn’t realise until we looked at the bill were charged $85!! Maybe get staff to point this out or have the bottle price listed on the same page as the carafe/glass prices.
Had high expectations of this place and it exceeded them by a mile, great attentive service like clock work. Food was great and high quality as you would expect, the mussels and zucchini entree was the highlight of the meal.
Our food was superb. Service excellent, however thought our wine a little expensive
As always the lunch special menu is excellent value. Can’t get this anywhere else in Melbourne. My favourite place.
Grossi remains one of Melbournes dining institutions. The service is always impeccable, the food reliably good and the ambience most enjoyable. Wine matching advice was perfect. Overall a favourite, if somewhat expensive.
Dined Sat night @ 7:30pm. Service was good. My wife had spatchcock main - delicious. I had scotch fillet steak - tough & chewy & sent it back. Was offered rump steak - much better. Expected better qlty steak at Grossi. Waiter was apologetic and gave us complimentary salad.
Very great service, price as expected for value. Great night for my partners 30th
The table was lovely, looking out a beautifully clean window on to Bourke Street, which we appreciated. Other than that it was pretty average unfortunately. We chose the $50 set lunch menu which seemed excellent value when booking, but it wasn’t really and we would have been better to either spend more and choose from the main menu or go elsewhere. We found the chilled veal entree to be bland, the lamb main was too fatty, and the rice pudding dessert turned out to be a trio of deep fried rice balls with icecream, which were dry. The entree squid ink risotto however was lovely and flavoursome, the house wine was good and the service was fine. But - I don’t think we’ll go back.
We had a really good meal before heading on to the theatre. Service and food were excellent. Bustling and a touch noisy, but still really lively atmosphere.
Superb service and excellent food. The stuff spared no efforts to make us feel like we were valued. The food was well cooked. I highly recommend the whole snapper, delicious. I will certainly be back son.
Very high class and fine dined it was an absolutely wonderful experience, if I’m ever in Melbourne again I would definitely like to dine here again. It was also a pleasure meeting Carlo Grossi. Everything was very professional
Wonderful night with my friend. The food was amazing and the service was too.
We will be back!
I enjoyed my dining experience at Grossi. The only complaint I have is that my duck leg was very fatty, with little meat, which was inclined to be on the tough side. My companions enjoyed their meal and I will be returning with other friends very soon because it was good value fof money.
It was our first visit and we enjoyed it immensely. The friendly waiter Matt made everything so easy. He was a delight.
Had a fantastic meal here whilst waiting for Harry Potter part2. Highly recommend the dessert!
Service was fabulous. Next step is to cater better for vegetarians and to introduce vegan dishes. I had a modified dish made to be vegetarian by omitting the goat ragu however it was bland and not particularly hot. The vegan market place is increasing and an opportunity is beckoning to remain one of the best restaurants in Melbourne for all tastes. 😊
Very attentive comfortable service
Delicious food, well presented
Will definitely return
Too expensive for the quantity provided. They took our bags and didn’t remember to bring them back for the end of the night.
Best Restaurant in Melbourne for me! My family, collegues and any catch up in Melbourne is at Florentinos or the Cellar Door or Grill.
Every time I eat here it is always an outstanding experience. One of my most favourite restaurants in Melbourne!
Myself and a customer went for the Grill, the starter of pasta was good and then came the steak that was $43.00 and both of us said it was full of chewy fat, we both said only about 10% was meat and 90% hard fat, I would probably rate it as the worst steak I have ever eaten. We both left very disappointed on this occasion.
It must have been 30 years since I have been to Grossi Florentino, and I always enjoyed the experience.
To come back to the Grill was like returning to an old friend...the experience was as good or even better than I remembered. The staff were attentive, the ambience great and the food was to die for.
It won't be 30 years until I go again.
Food was ok. Desser was amazing. Service was not very good
The menu was very limited an unappealing. Wine list was like a bible by comparison. Wines were expensive. We ordered a side of rosemary potatoes and instead cane what can only be described as wedges with herbs, but no rosemary. Service was slow but pleasant enough
Staff were attentive and knowledgeable. Setting was pleasant, though possibly a bit cramped for a more expensive restaurant.
Quite disappointed with the steak. $55 scotch fillet, requested it rare - served medium. The cut was just too thin to be cooked correctly.
No eye fillet on the menu was a noticeable omission.
Also, the radicchio salad was, quite strangely, extremely salty.
They were apologetic, and waived the cost of the salad and gave us a free dessert.
If it wants to be seen as a steak restaurant, it really needs to lift its game.
Grossi - Grilled is very much overrated and not worth going again. Food was average and service very try hard to please but waitress got on my nerves not good service. The wine list is very complicated to read you need to be careful when ordering wine in this place because that’s where they will sting you in the hip pocket. I’ve had better meals at the local pub. Don’t bother with this place you won’t be satisfied and will leave very disappointed
The food was amazing, but the service was a little poor for the restaurant. We had to ask twice for the water, and then we have to ask twice for the coffee. They looked like they have forgotten about us. The restaurant was very noisy, but we food was amazing
We enjoyed a nice meal (not outstanding) but were surprised that our special Anniverary was not acknowledged as it specifically asked us in the booking if we were celebrating a special occasion!
Always dependable. Always quality.
A quick bite before a theatre show. Food was delicious and service excellent. :)
Fantastic food and great service. The whole family thouroghly enjoy the evening. Thank you!
Great service and great food as usual. Very friendly and attentive staff.
Lovely food and professional staff .. as we (party of four) dined in the Grill and were wedged in on the upper step where a large group were also placed very noisy but great experience overall
The waitor seemed to mislead us into thinking we could get entree and main sizes of the same dish. While the pasta was very good, the barramundi was average for the price.
Staff attention was great. Food was fantastic .( Flat iron steak was delicious)
Will definitely go back again.
