Grossi - Grill
“In my earliest memories of childhood I can see the kitchen, a place where all would come, filled with these familiar smells, and the laughter of people that love each other and with the anticipation of flavours to come”. ?Guy Grossi
The Grill is the embodiment of this, personal service and the buzz of the open kitchen creating a magnificent atmosphere. One that is centred around ‘La Griglia’, where the Grill derives its name, is always full of the finest aged meats sourced from various producers, and the constant quest for the best quality ingredients. This is a fundamental of our philosophy. The Grill is truly an extension of the Italian kitchen’s soul.
It was excellent. Food was divine. Staff were friendly and professional.
Food was good but not great, nice setting and very busy, expected better for the price.
This was our first visit to this restaurant and while we had an issue with the quality of the pasta to start with the waitresses addressed the problem brilliantly and we really enjoyed the food and wine. Would return on a next visit .
We had a thoroughly amazing dinner (entree, main and dessert with matching wines) with great service. Certainly a place for a special occasion. Thank you wait staff. You made my son's 21st even better.
The waiter service was pretty good although it take along time to get a drink out front on arrival. Two of our group of 6 ordered the Scotch fillet medium rare and when it eventually arrived it was well done small and poorly presented. The waiter took both back and brought two more medium rare which were very average in flavour and poorly presented. This would have rated poorly as a pub steak for half the price. We also ordered beans and potatoes, the beans were fine but the potatoes were soggy. I organized this evening for an old work colleagues dinner and was embarrassed at the poor quality and high cost.
The pasta was one of the best that we have ever had. My husband ordered the pancake style pasta. Amazing!! He also ordered the grain fed
Ribeye.. medium rare and it was dry and tasteless. It’s a shame, because the waitress asked how the meal was and when we told her, she didn’t even acknowledge that we had a problem with the steak. If staff are going to ask.. they need to be trained in handling the response. We are big Guy Grossi fans and would dine here again, but not order the steak.
IF you have people to wait for seating and they have order a table at least you should offer Them a drink, but when it came to all, the good and service is good, but IF you want to have a conservation don’t come, it is noisy and we have to sit next to a table so noisy that i even without My hearring aids, could hear every word spoken.
From arriving to departing this was a dining wonder! Food was amazing and service exceptional. Shared the mussels....such a rookie mistake! They are devine and should not be shared as you will want them all for yourself and the sauce must be mopped up with bread to finish off. Its so good it can't be wasted. We dined with 6 friends and there was not one complaint so book Grill and enjoy!
Have been waiting for some time to have dinner at your establishment but was it worth it ,would say no in my opinion had a many Wagu steak and was warned that Rump was not as tender as others but me thinking all Wagu should be tender how wrong I was as Italian was impressed by Guy Grossi and thought dinning there must be great. Can Mr.Grossi rely on he’s Name in the future?Hope so for him wish him all the best unfortunately I expected better meat and Potatoes and Dessert
Service was pretty good
The fresh fish offering is great and nicely cooked over a wood stove
Food was delicious and service was excellent! Would definitely come back!
Great restaurant great atmosphere really enjoyed our meal
Delicious modern Italian food.
Excellent wine (on the pricey side though).
Excellent value for money lunch menu.
Almost perfect as always, waiter slipped on bringing a few things but this is Florentino's so expect the best.
We were bitterly disappointed with our trip to Grill, both from the food and the service points. For the price we really expected a lot more. We had been to a similar restaurant the night before for a quarter of the price and the food and service was outstanding. Goes to show spending more money doesn’t get you better
Excellent restaurant. Great ambiance. Staff were quick, efficient and knowledgeable. Wine list extensive a little pricey. Meals were good value. No hesitation in recommending this for a small gathering.
In the past 15 years I have been to Grossi Restaurant and Grill more than 20 times but had not been back since 2014. This visit was to celebrate my Wife's birthday and remembering the days when we went to Grossi while dating.
The first impression when walking through the door was noticing the new frontage, decor and refreshed setup of the restaurant and Grill. However impressive the new decor was balanced with absolutely unfriendly, unprofessional and ill-mannered server that was assigned to our table. She simply skipped thorough any greeting or small talk and opened with the specials and the question "What Can I Get you?"...
She did not show any flexibility in needing to understand any dietary restrictions, showed frustration when my 7 year old daughter wanted simple pasta, and didn't want to explain the dishes on the menu.
When I started to ask questions about extremely high and surprising price for the Italian Barolo on the wine menu, she explained away my question by saying "This is the price everywhere in Melbourne, not just us", "And Australia charges very high import tax"- proving to me that she knew nothing about the wine, type or its heritage and thought I was as illiterate as she.
She also got the my steak wrong brought me well done Hanger steak instead of Medium rare, spoiling the evening birthday dinner with my wife. She replaced the steak only for the new steak to arrive 15min later. To further insult me, she offered a glass of wine and said "To apologise for the steak I will LET YOU TASTE THIS AUSTRALIAN RED WINE".... As a wine collector and someone who prides himself in fine dinning on regular basis I was extremely offended by that comment. I paid for our mains and left.
If you feel like having a special evening, I would not recommend this restaurant.
Booking Grill for an intimate dinner for 2 was not wise. The noise level was too loud for conversation. The food is overpriced and not of value that i expected. The oysters were small. We've eaten better food for less cost. The staff and waiters were great.
Disappointed in our evening, the meals were not exceptional and far too expensive
Grossi Grill is a traditional Italian menu. For those that want to sample Italy in the heart of Melbourne. Traditional and authentic with a touch of class. An excellent Grossi craft range of beers and ciders for those who want an alcoholic alternative to the pricey wine menu.
First time at the Grill excellent evening great food good wine list We will return when we can't get a table upstairs
Everything was amazing from food and drinks to service.
Only tiny issue was when we asked for the bill, almost thought we would have to walk out for them to give it to us it took so long.
We booked our table in advance, received email confirmation immediately, as well as a follow up phone call on the day of our reservation to mke sure we were coming. Excellent.
We arrived early so sat out the front for some drinks first. Our server was a delightful man who knew his stuff, and had a wicked sense of humour.
The table reserved for us wasn’t the best in the house, so we were asked to wait a short while for a better table, which we appreciated very much.
When our table was ready, we were seated, given the menu and received some lovely bread and olive oil.
For starters we chose a selection from the menu. Octopus, scallops, oysters...all of which were amazingly prepared.
For mains, my partner chose the rib eye and I chose the wild boar Ragu. Both of which were absolutely excellent.
We were too full for dessert, unfortunately.
Overall we had an amazing experience.
Food was excellent, staff were friendly and knowledgeable, which was amazing. Insiders g how busy they were.
We can’t wait to return. Thankyou all for a delightful evening.
Considering the reputation and price point, I was expecting more from Grossi Grill. The service was reasonable and the pasta was good, but the veal was bland and a serious disappointment. I’m not sure I’d go back.
Wonderful evening with friends
Service was fantastic. Drinks list was extensive. Menu had good variety. Food tasted great. A great spot for dinner with friends.
Grossi Grill is an authentic Italian restaurant with a great menu and wine selection. It's what one would expect for a fine dining experience. The drawbacks were having someone looking after us who seemed 'new' (for a fine dining experience they should be there, but not) and getting the special occasion incorrect (based on the list of occasions provided when booked).
We were both disappointed with the food quality for the price. There was certainly nothing exceptional about either the swordfish or the steak. We thought florentinos where we have dined previously was better value.
We went to use up a gift voucher and found that the $50 3 course lunch excellent value. Don't know whether we would pay usual prices for an evening meal but it worked for us. The serves were reasonable, the bread very fresh and the wine enjoyable. Both of us found the chocolate dessert a bit too rich for our tastes and would have preferred a lemon something but that of course is personal taste. The coffee was very good.
Stunning food and great service in a classy restaurant. Wine list a bit over the top though.
I was excited to try Guy Grossi’s Grill restaurant when I travelled to Melbourne but I left it feeling really disappointed. Firstly the service. Felt rushed, waitress dropped water on our table and didn’t clean it up, napkins weren’t put on our lap (which you expect for fine dining) and new cutlery was just plonked down on the table with no arrangement! Now to the food which was even more disappointing! The Coccoli (bread balls) on my entree dish were so cold and hard that I couldn’t cut them and the Testaroli which Grossi himself raves about was really nothing to write home about! My husband had a better tasting pasta dish in another no name place earlier for lunch. The worst part was my husbands steak which was way under cooked, stringy and chewy. Now for a place called Grill and the $42 price tag which didn’t include any side dishes, you expect more! Finally, I ordered the Tiramisu for dessert which was again plonked on a plate in front of me with no regard for presentation was not really as good as what I’ve heard. My Italian Aunty makes a better tasting Tira without the $18 price tag. When we told the waitress that we weren’t that impressed with the food (half left on our plate) she said the manager would come to talk to us but alas nobody ever came and we paid the overpriced bill and left feeling underwhelmed by the experience. Guy Grossi needs to pick up his socks if he wants to compete in a foodie town such as Melbourne as he can’t rest on his namesake forever! Two thumbs down!
Very disappointing night. Service started quite poorly and went downhill.
Half of the bread was so hard it wasn’t possible to eat. One of our steaks was unevenly cooked and cold. The salad however was a highlight.
Our waitperson did not seem too organised as plates were not cleared in a timely manner and we observed people who had ordered drinks after us getting them before we did.
No one asked us how anything was until the end and unfortunately when we expressed our displeasure rather than a meaningful conversation we were given the dessert menu. It is not likely we would return, sadly as we had very much looked forward to a pleasant dining experience.
Perfect food and service unfortunately extremely noisy.
Great spot for lunch. Wonderful a la carte menu and the lunch special is excellent. Attentive and friendly service with a smile, and knowledge.
The entree items were tasty and very enjoyable. For mains we had steak which was fatty. Have had much better steak at many other places in the CBD. Was expecting better for the price.
We have always wanted to eat here when coming over from Hobart and finally did it. We were not disappointed and next time back in Melb will definitely try it again.
Restaurant is great, however we have to wait for more than 1.5 hours for our order. We ordered the beef steak. Was a bit disappointed because me & my friend thought that it would be a perfect meat as we waited for a long time. To my surprise my friend had to spit something she can’t chew, I believe it’s a cartilage in the meat. Then that happened to me as well when I am halfway in finishing my food. I have eaten beefsteak in other fine dining restaurants and this is the first time this happened. I really don’t know if this is just a coincidence.
Grossi Grill never fails to delight. Service and food is extraordinary with an atmosphere to match.
Had a wonderful birthday lunch the staff where attentive but not over the top in your face . Food was excellent could not fault a dish and I had 4. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food, excellent service. This is perfect for a weekday lunch.
