Grain of the Silos
Accompanying Chef Thomas’s menu is a considered wine list, and while it tips its hat to a selection of mainland and international picks, the list takes the majority fill from handpicked local selections.
The restaurant itself, located inside converted grain silos, displays unique features drawing on the buildings industrial and agricultural past. Featuring luxe, earthy tones, reclaimed timber with contemporary settings, this natural style extends from the design to the delivery of service.
Very good. Amazing staff. Couldn't fault them at all.
We had a iris lunch with 3 small children (under 3), one of the chefs came out and kept the girls entertained while mums enjoyed heir lunch. The food was amazing and definitely reasonably priced. Lovely light and calming open space to enjoy lunch on a sunny day.
The menu was very small, overpriced, boring, the meals when we revived them very underwhelming, 2 slices of bread for $6 ?😡 service was very good, but everything else Ker it down, end of night we needed to split the bill, we were given a calculator to add up what we needed to pay for as there computer system won’t let them split the bill? Very poor for a new establishment, but the staff were very apologetic and said how they were very frustrated with it as well, overall very disappointed and will not return anytime soon 🙁🙁🙁
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Launceston. The food is always exceptional and the service is very good. Highly recommended.
Great views down the river, classical elegance all round, including the menu which is perhaps a little limited. The wine list starts a little on the pricey side. The mushrooms with truffle oil were undoubtedly the star of the show.
Great service and yummy food. The only down was a little longer of wait between entree and main but I think this was due to a bigger table order coming out before ours.
I had a great lunch catch up with some old friends and the food, wine and outlook were terrific. Thanks
Most of the food was so so delicious and so a 4 is perfect as a rating . Waiter was very very attentive with the water and knowledgeable about the food and alcohol. we had a wonderful meal.
Sadly over-hyped. Food was average. Side dishes were ordered and only arrived after our main dishes when we pointed out their absence (we appreciated having them removed from the bill). The chairs are uncomfortable and too short for the table. Fine if you are 2 m tall maybe. The decor of the public areas of the hotel including the restaurant are clearly done on the cheap.
Launceston has much better to offer.
Food was delicious and service was outstanding. Loxley was our waiter and was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable with regards to the menu. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Great value for money.
Disappointed that the fritters had sold out by 7pm. The pasta I had instead from the vegan menu was very plain but all ingredients were cooked exceptionally.
Service was good until we finished mains and waited over half an hour for our plates to be cleared. When this finally happened, we still weren't offered dessert menus.
The waiters seemed to be too busy chatting with the chefs to pay any attention to the diners, with the exception of the young lady waiter who was brilliant and the only one to provide any good service.
I will eat here again because my previous experience was good, but I was left pretty disappointed by this experience.
I do know how good the food can be so I look forward to the next menu change.
Went for the first time with friends, some of who had been before, and loved it so much I returned the next night with my parents, as I was only in Tas for a few short days. Cost was probably on the higher end, but I was happy to pay the price for what I received in service and food. I also just loved the feel on the place and the ambience.
Service was great, really friendly staff. Great food as well menu was a little small though
Excellent food - my tuna was imaginative and well prepared.
Service lacked warmth.
This was our first dining experience at the Grain of the Silos. From the time we arrived and were ushered to a corner table with a view until our departure, we were treated with exceptional service. The waiters were professional, friendly, patient and attentive to our every need. We were made to feel special.
The menu was varied and catered to our needs with a number of GF options. The meals were well presented, flavoursome & cooked to perfection. Thank you Grain of the Silos.
Excellent experience. Delicious food, well presented and served. Had the “feed us” menu which was great value.
Food, location and service was great as always. Nothing was a problem and we really enjoyed our lunch. The menu was varied and appeared to cover off on all dietary requirements. Awesome!
both my boyfriend and I had the most amazing meals. So tasty and had so much flavour. Service was amazing and very friendly!! Best meal ever
Felt the dinner menu is overpriced especially when you have to buy sides. Waited an extremely long time for our main which was then only warm when arriving to table. Oviously our order was overlooked as the waiter apologised for the delay when we were paying. I have eaten here for lunch prior and had no problem. Disappointed as we were guests at the hotel and we were celebrating my husband's birthday
Not for breakfast, waiting for things to be topped up frequently. Will leave as a dinner destination
Very good food but a bit too much fat in the steak. Service not great - we weren't asked how we'd like our steak cooked and when the wine was presented at our table we expected more than "2 glasses of red". Overall a nice experience!
Food was really disappointing. Market fish was served swimming in sauce. Not a lot of flavour and served on a small smear of mashed potato. The dessert was served cold and was like a dry tasteless brownie rather than a warm chocolate torte. I was very disappointed and embarrassed as it was a meal to celebrate my partners exciting news. We will not be returning. Others have mentioned also that although the service is always good and the setting is lovely, unfortunately the food is sadly lacking. The price would indicate exciting dishes full of flavour and clever combinations but this is definitely not the case.
Well done - we enjoyed our experience - especially as it was a birthday celebration. Thank you
Good was wonderful, service was attentive but not overbearing and even had complimentary drinks for our dining occasion! Will be back!
The atmosphere is lovely. The service was great. The food was ok. The beef burger was quite bland. Average to be honest. You almost need to sell your young to buy a glass of wine. Overall, ok but probably wont rush back.
Was expecting to be able to choose from a menu for breaky too. As I don't each much the $30 was not really good for me. Was nice but the option to select Soemthing off the menu that was smaller would have been good. Didn't realise buffet was the only option.
Breakfast selection for $29pp was poor, quite a few items had run out and not replaced. Chef had unhygienic habits putting hands in raw meat products and then other ingredients when making omelettes . Plates were dirty and difficult to get clean plates. Poor value for money and disappointing. We were celebrating a special occasion and venue was a let down for us.. won’t recommend to others.
Great meals, great service, friendly staff.
Came to the silos for my mums birthday lunch just like last year and it was as good as I remember. Everyone was happy with what they got (especially since I was paying) and I'm glad I could get a Jack and Coke to go with my porterhouse.
Bill came out cheaper than I expected which was great and everyone left with a smile, even my mum who had ran the marathon that day.
Business meeting with managers from Melbourne. We choose the feed us menu and they were impressed.
We had an amazing night at Grain, fabulous food and wine, friendly and efficient service and great ambience. We will definitely return.
Fantastic dining experience.... excellent friendly service from a great team. Great food with wonderful atmosphere.... Totally enjoyed and highly recommend 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
We enjoyed a beautiful lunch. Food was fantastic, set really good. Lovely views and venue.
We thought the food was very average, a breakfast buffet that you could get at any budget hotel. No barista coffee in the price, no fresh squeezed juice, not much variety of ingredients for the omelettes. For the price we expected some wow. We've had an outstanding lunch at Grain earlier this year so we were expecting an amazing buffet.
A nice menu and the food was very good, the location is great, the decore is lovely and the male waiter was very friendly and helpful but the 2 female wait staff were very unfriendly and rude and it seemed like any question etc. was a bother to them.
The service was outstanding but I was a little disappointed in the food. This is my second visit and I loved the food the first time.
Excellent food, fantastic serving staff we will be back.
$29 Breakfast buffet, which is excellent, but be earned, service fee applies and not disclosed
Outstanding restaurant, the service was amazing, the food was delicious and the setting was beautiful. Only criticism, the menu was very small. Would certainly go again
Decor was smart and simple, view of city and water was beautiful, the food was excellent (very tasty and generous portions for the price. Our waitress was wonderful and we let her choose the wines for us and we were very happy with the selection. Overall a awesome night out in a warm comfortable inviting place for dinner with great food great service.
Lunch with friends in a great atmosphere, good food and wine, reasonable lunch prices. Great staff attention.
