Great atmosphere. Tasty food. The service was great until they realised we were paying with a $250 gift card. The service dropped off immediately. I had to get up to order a drink as no one would come to our table. Disappointing.

In a relaxed manner we enjoyed our opening cocktails followed by excellent meals. The slight delay in delivery of meals did not worry us, but the staff responded with regular reports and encouragement - I repeat, the delay was very minor.
When the staff learned that it was my wife's birthday, they all came by to wish her the best and delivered a cake with candle with dessert. That was much appreciated.

My steak was overdone and wasn’t let rest so all the juice was flowing around my plate the second I cut in to it. The potatoes were raw, genuinely raw and inedible. We sent them back and they were put on a pan and fried in oil and they were still raw. The service was ok but I can’t get over you are charging over $60 for a steak and it was terrible. I’ve had better for less than half the price. You’ll need to do considerably better to justify the price.

Meal was good, service was generally good.

It was slightly annoying when after browsing the menu for dessert/coffee and said no, the waitstaff immediately brought the bill after even though the crowd had tapered down and no one was waiting for our seat.

The lady that ushered me to my table was an idiot. I was at a business lunch and she pulled out chairs to seat them down. As one of the clients I hadn’t met before I got up. They were supposed to be seated at the next table. She was too busy trying to strut around seeing who was looking at her to focus on the one task she had to do

Staff personality/friendliness, satisfactory menu knowledge when asked for recommendations.
MENU: Pork cutlet marinate pork to improve flavour. Prawn entree, should fully/partially peel for diner convenience. High prices for type of dishes.

The food and wine was fantastic and the fitout of the restaurant bar area and hotel reception is an array of re-purposed items making it great for photography as well.

I love this establishment and have been here many times. The menu has changed a little over the years and this makes it always interesting but the style of cooking is the thing... wood fired and char-grilled meat and fish and vegetable selections are all divinely mouthwatering. Choosing is hard. The meals are well prepared, not pretentious; food is very fresh, simple and cooked to perfection and served hot. Staff are excellent.

Service staff, less engaged than previous visits and wine bill came out to just under 4 times the price of the bottle ordered.
Bill was brought to attention and rectified without a bit explanation of, why it happened and apologies.
I dare say if I paid it, no effort for refund would of been made.

Overall we had a lovely experience. However food was a bit pricey. My steak was cooked to perfection but the lamb cutlets were very fatty. Sides were amazing and the bread was fantastic. We ordered another basket of bread but did not receive then were charged on the bill, we soon told the waitress. Lovely drinks will recommend!

Been before and it was good. This time though both meals were not good - steak over cooked and nothing special. Brussel sprouts were burnt through (black).

I've been there many times and this last dining experience wasn't too great. We were there with our interstate visitors. Our first bottle of wine had 4 glasses poured and then placed incorrectly at another table's ice bucket. It was discovered by another waiter late in the evening just as we were about to pay the bill. We had to go to the counter to order more wine and drinks as our waiter did not check on our table. The mash potato didn't taste right that evening and we asked for the bill twice. The rest of the food was great however, was lukewarm at best.

Fabulous food and a great venue. The only disappointment was the wine served was not cold. It was taken away to chill but returned still not cold. We were not offered a replacement and as it was opened it was a case of accept it as served. Disappointing

I love this place for a breakfast catch up with friends.The gorgeous Art Deco setting is very inviting and makes the place seem quite special. I tend to have the same thing each time, as I am an absolute devotee of the truffled scrambled eggs. My friends always rave about their dishes as well, so I get the impression that all is great. So far I have only been here for breakfast but plan to branch out to another meal one of these days. It could be hard to beat the breakfasts though.

My partner and I visited Gowings on a Saturday night. Despite it being a weekend and the restaurant being busy, the staff all looked relaxed and the food benefited from the positive vibes in the kitchen at the bar and on the restaurant floor.
The food was delicious, well worth the price. Never tried salt n vinegar flavoured Brussel sprouts, but would order them again. The steak and lamb rack were cooked perfectly.

Excellent in almost every way. Only one negative was some rules about splitting the bill which we weren't told or didn't know. We were a group of 7. I was staying in the hotel and paying for 2 of us and putting it on my hotel bill. The others wanted to split the bill between them with one lot paying for 2 and the other for 3. I know split bills are a pain but were told that the only split was 50/50 with 2 credit cards. The entire bill was over $1000. So watch out for this.

2nd time we have been thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt after last experience and again experience unprofessional grumpy staff and useless at taking orders. Also everytime we have been u order a drink on the list and they come back and say they don't have it I think that's disgusting. Don't go if u can't handle loud music that just thumps beats the whole time its awful. Overall experience shocking and I won't be going again

Hard to book directly on line or to change bookings .
Music too loud down stairs
Great for couples
For $22 cocktails I love a bit of extra work in garnish , egg white or something ..
The waitresses looked great in black ,
And I like the fact they get their hair done .
