Glass Brasserie - Hilton Sydney Ratings and Reviews
They accepted a reservation for 10:45 for brunch and then told us that the buffet and ala carte menu was closing at 11. They then took a long time to get us our food, totally forgot about a cappuccino order and the told us we had to leave the restaurant because they were closing. The only comment they made was to inform us that we should have come earlier. Terrible overall experience and service.
The maitre de was on the phone when I arrived. I wasn't given any eye contact to acknowledge I was there. The manager came over, ignored me and began looking over the shoulder of the maitre de. Altogether I was waiting for 2 minutes before a waitress (not even her job) came to my aid. Really disappointing experience for a place of that calibre. We used to go there quite regularly and won't be going back there ever again.
One doesn't have a second chance to make a first impression and my first impression at Glass Brasserie was tainted by the woman who received me at the door. Her look and demeanour conveyed an impression that she had seen more impressive people that day. She may have felt better for that but it is not good for business.
She showed me to my table and asked me if I would like something to drink while I was waiting for my guest. I was still waiting for my mineral water when my guest arrived nearly twenty minutes later. Even if it were busy (few tables were occupied at the time), Luke Mangan's jewel should be able to serve a glass of water more efficiently. It requires little preparation.
I chose the salmon Wellington - that was excellent and the salad side was quite acceptable. The wine was a glass of Victorian pinot noir - unfortunately un vin ordinaire: some nose, little soul.
The coffee was tepid but it was replaced quickly by one at proper temperature without argument. That's okay. The recovery is more important than the error.
Glass has its strength in its kitchen but there is work to be done with its service staff.
One waitress was very attentive and was vrry helpful.
I did make a special request for the restaurant to write happy birthday on the plate when we had dessert but it wasn't done which was quite disappointing.
When we paid for the bill, we were charged an incorrect amount and then were charged an additional amount to make up for the actual bill. It was a little unprofessional.
Overall, experience was only slightly higher than average when considering the price paid.
Quite simply some of the best food I've ever had. It is an absolute joy to eat here, and my wife and I have been happy customers for years. This is the kind of place where you never need to worry about what to eat, because you know everything will be cooked to perfection. I could not recommend Glass more highly. It is truly a highlight of our life in Sydney that we are able to eat in such a beautiful and consistently amazing restaurant.
The service was great everybody extremely helpful and nice. Wine list something worth exploring.
Very very average food however. Not one thing out of the 7 dishes we had was worth coming back for.
Slight frustration when the restaurant and service is so great but the food is a big let down.
Had not been to the Glass Brasserie for a while - the food was absolutely amazing and the service was excellent. We were celebrating moving countries and they brought us a special dessert to help the celebrations. This time we sat at a table where you could see and hear the kitchen but that was actually quite cool and added to the ambience of the night. Thank you for a wonderful evening - perfect food, champagne and service - made a special night extra special!
The waiter or chefs did not pay attention to our specific needs of how we wanted our meat cooked and it felt worse when they got it wrong the second time - Not good enough!! Also, the waiters didn't take note which person ordered what dish and as such the wrong people got chilly in their meal! At no point did anyone check on us. It was a special occasion and we looked forward to experiencing Glass after hearing so much about it but the night was truly ruined and extremely disappointing!
Prompt, friendly service, waiters were helpful. Food was delicious as usual (I come here often). Only thing I can fault is that I am usually given a table with a view of the QVB, however this time was seated on the internal section which overlooked the inside of the Hilton (which isn't too shabby itself!).
Aside from that, a stunning meal.
I was hosting some international guests who attended an event at the Hilton, so selected Glass based on previous great experience. Whilst the quality of the food was fantastic, unfortunately the service left a lot to be desired - there did not seem to be a waiter appointed to serve us (or if there was, they were did not make their presence known) given we were left waiting for a prolonged time and had to specifically request things like the food menus and bill.
Receptionist - pleasant, friendly and welcoming
Wait staff - friendly, willing to assist
Cooks (other side of buffet table) - quite grim looking, not smiling especially the guy behind the fruit/juice bar. It's breakfast, guests would like to see pleasant and friendly staff. They have to always check that food is available and not allow the trays of food to be empty before additional food is cooked and placed on trays and have guests wait.
I thought it was good to great overall, just happy I was not that hungry, as the entrees were very small.
The food was great and well flavored, but small portions. I ordered spilt prawns and after sharing 1 of 3 with my bf I was left with 1 full prawn. He ordered the pork cheeks and had about 10 total bites, but again enjoyed it. Our first wine pours were small as well, but seems they made up for it in the 2nd glasses. Overall I would go back.
Food was good, ambience nice but service poor. We knew there was a second sitting that night which meant 6-8pm for us but the head waiter couldn't wait to get rid of us. at 7.55pm we were basically told it's time to leave and when we ignored him he came with the bill immediately. I would have given my customer a gentle reminder at 7.55pm and asked if it is ok to give me the bill at 8 pm. He wanted us out of those seats by 8pm!!
Definitely not coming back and will not recommend to anyone else.
The menu was varied, with some unusual dishes that were truly inviting. The dishes all had some unusual elements that worked really well together. The raspberry soufflé provided a fitting close to the meal.
The spacing of the dishes was spot on. The waiting staff were very attentive and professional.
There was a variety of people in the restaurant, from couples like us, to small groups, to larger groups. This gave the room a warm and inviting atmosphere.
