Our server, Alexis, was fantastic. She had a lot of positive energy and was fun. The perfectly cooked steak w foie gras butter was outstanding.
Sinner was great. The lobster appetizer was not very good. Over cooked and not worth the money.
You definite want a window seat to absorb the view of the city especially if you are celebrating a special occasion. It’s loud but not as loud as some other top notch restaurants. Volume came due. Around 8-8:30 when tables thinned out. I’d go back again. Food was awesome.
My reservation for outside was made well in advance for my 60th birthday. Upon arrival , I was told that our table was not quite ready. We had a drink at the bar (which took 20 minutes to arrive at our table). At 7:30, I went to the hostess desk to find out why we were not seated. She told me that they would text me. They did about 7:33. The text stated that my table was ready in the main dining room. We went upstairs to be seated and the hostess stated that not everybody that requests outside is able to sit outside. We moved to our table but noticed that there were 4 tables open on the patio. They said they were holding them for tables of 4 people. Yet 15 min later, there was 2 people seated at all of the tables. Really?
The waiter asked me if I wanted to see the manager. I replied yes, but never saw him.
I will say that they gave us a complimentary meatball appetizer and a wonderful dessert for my birthday. Our dinners were all excellent, I just missed being outside.
Food was very good, but the fish appetizers were pricey with small portions. Pasta sides were great.
We had a great time at Gibson's. We went there to celebrate my Mom's birthday and the waiter immediately wished her a happy birthday (just from seeing the note in the reservation). Their outdoor seating is on the 4th floor and has a beautiful view of the river and is in the shade in the afternoon, which is nice since it was about 80 degrees when we were there. The drinks were delicious and the food was even better. They say that most of the foods are small portions, but I got a "small plate" of the pasta and when combined with the free bread it was plenty of food. They also brought a delicious free dessert for her birthday.
Waiters try to hurry you at lunch. Want your plates constantly and pushing for dessert and coffee before you are ready. The prices are too high here for this kind of push them out the door service.
They gave my table away to someone else, then proceeded to tell me that I have to wait because they are too busy an no tables are available. Never been treated like this when I clearly had a reservation. It was quite embarrassing and on top of it, we were there celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary. Perhaps a better solution could have been giving us our original table and have the people who took our table wait. I won't be visiting Gibsons Italia ever again. I do plan on sharing my experience with everyone I know (yes I know A LOT of people). If I could give it less an 1 star I would
Was hoping to enjoy the Gibson’s perfection with meat extended to Italia but was disappointed on multiple levels. Walking in the sound level and general ambiance was chaotic and louder than a rock concert. Just tables of diners yelling at each other one fork away. We tried the carpaccio, super tasteless, a pasta dish....way too aldente, and the filet which was good but unremarkable. Our server was attentive but the program way too rehearsed. We drove in from the burbs, not worth the drive.
LOVED our meal at Gibsons Italia. From the delicious meatballs, to the scallop risotto and filet mignon, with tasty side dishes, we had an amazing meal. And you cannot beat the beautiful view. Definitely an incredible experience.
Awesome in every way!
The service was not good!
Bartenders were personable for drinks prior to reservation. My customers were 30 min late arriving and they worked with me to still get seated when they arrived, even though they were clearly packed! Food was great, service outstanding, and view of Chicago river makes this one of my favorite spots!
We had an amazing meal for my birthday dinner. It was a beautiful night in Chicago so we had the best table and view! Our server was fantastic and all of our entrees were delicious!
Beautiful lunch outside overlooking the river!
Fabulous view of the river and skyline combined with really tasty food made for a memorable experience.
It was perfect
Alexis is the best server! Ask for her, she'll treat you like royalty.
Kelly was our bartender and she was fantastic
You really could not ask for a better location especially on a beautiful, clear night. This restaurant is perfectly situated on the Chicago River with amazing views of the surrounding buildings. Until recently, Gibson's had 3 levels to include a rooftop bar that is amazing. However, during this visit, I was informed by the hostess that the rooftop bar is permanently closed except for private parties only. To say this new policy sucks is an understatement. Dining on the 2nd floor outdoor patio is a must if there is availability.
There are so many yummy options to choose from and we decided on the following:
Chef's crudo selection
7-year aged Acquerello risotto
Torta al cioccolato a strati
Every dish was fabulous but the Caserecce and risotto stood out as the table favorites. The torta was scrumptious and perfect for one person.
We booked a few weeks ago and didn’t realize it was a fixed price bbq so we were slightly disappointed not to get the Italian dinner we were looking forward to. That said the ribs were fantastic
It was great!
We love this place but I would not recommend their fix menu BBQ during 4th of July. Not up to the exceptional level of Gibson's Italia. Pork, Shrimp and swordfish skewers awesome. The one and only steak on the fixed menu and it was very disappointing for a restaurant that boasts about their steaks.
4th of July BBQ
fantastic & great service
Loved everything about Gibson’s
Just wonderful! Food, ambience and service. All were delicious!! Can't wait to come back.
Overall excellent, especially the view and all the staff except our waiter. He was a little short in temperament, curt and a bit condescending when asked about some of the menu items. I don’t mention it to be difficult but know that a good restaurant would want to know something like this. I would definitely go again.
The bread is soooo good that you have to watch yourself. We were greeted with a small cup of Prosecco at the table for my daughter's birthday, and at the end of the meal we were presented with a delicious tall layered chocolate cake. The pastas were all outstanding, especially the Bolognese which appears to be prepared with brisket or short rib beef. Beautiful surroundings and incredible views of the Chicago River and skyline.
Both food and service were outstanding!!
One of my favorite restaurants in the city right now… I love everything about it.
Gorgeous view and setting.
Amazing every time. Crab bisque was great
An amazing evening! Wonderful view & great service. Highlights were the white gin spritz, the Cacio de Pepe with truffles is a MUST, scallops & risotto & banana gelato dessert. We were pleasantly surprised how wonderful the food was, much better than any other Gibson's & the view & restaurant is stunning.
Celebrated bday and staff was very helpful in providing Prosecco toast and dessert!
The food is amazing. The service is top notch. The views are fantastic highly recommended
Fantastic! Helps to have fabulous weather at sunset for a picturesque city view on the patio!
Steak was cook wrong twice after the second time it was so burnt I have to cut the edges off.
Did not necessarily love my experience there. Starting with the hostess, she was a rude and condescending young blond girl. I mean, I am coming to eat at your restaurant and you treat me little respect almost not letting me talk. Just plain rude! The waitress was initially cold but did warm up towards the end of the meal and turned out to be quite nice. The food was just ok. I expected way more from a 4+star restaurant. The drinks were boring and nothing to rave about. I did love the view, thats it!
