This has become a an average venue. Food is bland. Not what it used to be
Food was B-/B.
We went to Geno's for New Years' Eve and had a great meal and a bottle of wine to cheer in 2020. The service was excellent and attentive, the food was very good and the evening was wonderful.
I was pleased with my dinner (chicken farm) and so was everyone else at the table (group of 7). Steak, Seafood and Chicken was all good. The service was friendly and the pace of the meal was perfect. There really is no down side though it isn't cheap (not outrageously expensive, but not cheap). I'll be back.
Average place. Little shy with the squid in the squid capri. I would go to others before revisiting.
We love the restaurant and the food was delicious and fresh! Loved the menu choices too.
We were at Geno's for a 'Gameday' menu (vs. Notre Dame). Don't miss the garlic toast with gorgonzola dip or the meatball appetizer. Kudo's to the general manager (who tried very hard to find out what grape varietals are in Puglia Rossa - a very delicious wine!) and our waitstaff Shannon. We would return on our next visit to Storrs!
On game days, a limited menu is offered, which is fine, considering how busy it can be. I had the chicken piccata, which was very good, but I would have preferred a bit larger portion. Wife had the chicken parm, which was very good and a bit more substantial a plate. Geno's house wines are good and reasonably priced. Service was cheery and pleasant, and I appreciate the fact they hire (what appear to be) students for wait staff, but felt a need for a little prompting. Not a real issue however; will definitely be back.
Our waitress was a doll, but frankly the food was meh, and the two of us walked out with a bill that totaled over $160 for a shared appetizer, dinner salad, entree, dessert and one of the cheapest bottles of wine available.
The next day, when I wanted to see what we paid for each part of the meal to figure out how the heck things got that expensive, I was stunned to see that the customer copy of the charge receipt was not the same as the merchant copy! There was no itemization, and we don't even know whether their "suggested tip" amounts were calculated on the price of the meal or meal plus tax, which has now gone up to 7 1/2%
It may be time for this retired couple to stop going out to restaurants altogether. Who can afford over $160 at a Grille type restaurant?
Mikayla was awesome
Great all around!
When we go to Jorgensen, Geno’s is always a great place to dine. Bryce was our waitress and she was great. Food was good as always. Great time!!
Very comfortable with friendly staff and reasonably priced menu for very nice selection of American/Italian dishes. Surf and turf was excellent and both and chicken and hamburger in two other dishes were perfectly cooked as requested. Will definitely be back.
Great experience....have been wanting to try it out for years, finally got there! Can’t wait to go back!!
Geno's never disappoints and is the best restaurant in Storrs, CT. We always make a trip in when visiting UConn. The food is hearty and the waitstaff does a terrific job with their service.
would have given 5 stars on food except one of the meals came out not prepared as requested. By time the meal was reserved everyone was done..we took it to go...BUT the meal was deducted from our bill without us asking...The right thing to do..
We are old and often find that contemporary restaurants have enormous (for us) helpings, so we try to be careful about what we order. At Geno's on Saturday night, we showed up early and the hostess offered us a seat at the bar, but a quick check showed her that they were able to find us a table right away. We ordered drinks (gina and tonic and dark and stormy) and they were excellent. In the restaurant, the tables are spread out in one long room, but we were able to carry on a conversation without having to call each other on cell phones across the table. Not bad for 70+ year olds.
We ordered a small plate (ravioli), a salad and an entree (chicken rolletini); the small plate and the salad came perfectly spaced. Or server offered to split the entree into two plates for no extra charge. The dessert was a lemon cheesecake and we had a quote from Geno, that if someone couldn't finish, Geno himself would pay for the dessert. We attempted to test his claim, but the cheesecake was simply too good. To top things off, we had an Irish coffee, nicely served with really fresh coffee. Nice place: the hostess servers were friendly and efficient. Wewent back the next day for lunch, so I guess we would recommend it highly
only fair experience, service was excellent, food fair at best, way over priced
Wonderful meal, very enjoyable visit - perfect for a great family meal when visiting college student
Had a great lunch at Geno's. A bit pricey but certainly a great place for quality food and service. Will go again for sure.
All Around greatness , food was delicious and fresh Service was outstanding
Genos is a great location for drinks before a game. However, as we have gone there several times now, I have noticed the food quality has decreased over the last year. We were there last weekend and the beer (draft) and meatballs were the same temperature, warm. Our server was quick to get us cold bottles and apologized. When our food came, the meatballs were warm on the outside but room temp on the inside. and the calamari so salty. We did eat it, had a time crunch, and had already sent the warm beer back. Will be a while before we return.
Amazing food in a high quality environment. Overall it is expensive for the area but extremely unique.
The food was good. Small portions. The salad ordered had no chicken on it and i had to ask for it. It ended up coming after both people had eaten half their meals.
The waitress was not very attentive and only came by if i called her or she walked by and saw plates empty.
The staff was friendly. Food was good, outside patio was ok to be outside.
I would give it a 2nd chance
Rolls burned and Caesar salad had too much alternative lettuce for my families liking but pasta and apps ok. Recommend meatballs apps... Calamari not so much.
Genos Melt Burger and Fries were as good as have ever had.
Great meal for 5 of us. Nice presentation. Great service. Will visit again.
We really enjoyed our first time to Geno's. We were greeted and welcomed upon arrival. Our waitress Shannon was very friendly and knowledgeable . We chose the flatbread appetizer which was very good. For dinner we had Chicken parmesan with the side salad. My husband said it was the best he's ever had. I had the Lasagna with the caesar salad, also excellent. For dessert I ordered the tiramisu and my husband ordered the chocolate cheesecake. The cheese cake was the size of a double stuffed oreo and about 3 times smaller than the tiramisu. He said it had minimal chocolate flavor and not very cheesecake like. Definitely not worth the price of $9 (same price as the tiramisu).
On a side note, be careful where you park. We saw on a site that there was free public parking behind the restaurant. It is not clearly marked and we found a $30 parking ticket on our car.
need more vegetarian food options we had to go to a different restaurant as there were not enough.
Very good food the staff was really nice and made me and my girlfriend feel accounted for at all times.
Not very good at all. Really disappointed
Just wish my food was a little warmer! The service was top notch!
Son back in UConn
I’ve been to Geno’s about 10 times before. It has always been good, but this past time we went, the food was excellent. If it a new chef, I hope they keep him. If it is a long term chef, he’s improving.
Server was great. (Rafael)
Seeing friend at the university theater.
It was just an o.k. experience, but staff were great. I had chicken (?Angelo?), and it was dry. Needed sauce. Puree (?parsnip?) Was not great. My husband did enjoy his squid/calamari pasta, but found it
a rather small portion. Bread was delicious. Will try again.
Love Geno's Grille! Service is always attentive. Food was delicious! My soy allergy was managed with nearly everything including the salad dressing. I wasn't able to enjoy the bread as it contained soy. I with they would choose another bread that is soy free.
Nice environment with TV's with different sports on each one. I was lucky to sit where I could see the Red Sox game.
We went to Geno’s for dinner. There were very few people in the restaurant. The menu is somewhat limited, but had some nice choices. The fried calamari was OK, but the plate consisted of far more fried peppers than calamari. The eggplant appetizer was delicious, as was the pasta. The ribeye portion was very large and tasty. Risotto and salmon dishes were quite good. Service was slow and the waitress seemed unfamiliar with dishes and cocktails.
Second visit to Storrs this summer to see Connecticut Rep performances. We ate at Geno’s both nights of our stay for both trips. Can’t beat the food, dining outside in the pleasant CT evening for pre-show deliciousness. What’s good? Everything!
