I cannot say anything bad except that the food was terrible. Four of us went for a 7:30 reservation. The restaurant was empty. Didn't think much at first, but with an empty restaurant one would figure the service would be good. That was not the case. The help was more interested in watching soccer than waiting on our table.
The real problem was the food. We all ordered various steak dishes that basically was not eaten. If a waiter came to your table to clear it and saw the entrees still on the plate barely touched, I would think they would ask why. We didn't even want it wrapped. I found this place online. Good things were said. None of it held true for this place. I cannot recommend this place.
The service was exceptional and they make you feel special.
The drinks were very good and the food was well-curated. Even the coffee was good.
One dark spot was we ordered the ribeye for $48. It was very chewy not worth the price. The butter was also old and tasted like refrigerator.
The music was nice but lacked diversity with the songs repeating throughout the evening.
Excellent place. Great for families or if you’re going on a date. Food is delicious
NOT a fan - the food was okay, poor value for the hight price, but the worst was the porterhouse steak. Not only was it overcooked, it made us sick. The tables were mismatched (not a joke) so we probably should have run then, tbh.
It all depends on price.
Gaucho is moderate. If you want outstanding and are willing to pay for it - go to Capital Grille
Because if previous reviews we almost didn’t go. I am glad we did. Food and service excellent. We had the dinner for 2 which was enough for 4. Would definitely go back!!
Great waiter. Good skirt steak. Went on restaurant week! Best creme brûlée.
Liked WP ambience better. 😊
It was restaurant week and the menus were updated for the reduced prices but our entree was further changed to have fewer ingredients in line with the price, per our waiter. Not what we expected since we never saw the full menu just the restaurant week menu
We have loved this place in the past but will not return
I tried Gaucho because there was a special restaurant week menu, and I wouldn't go back. The waiter was clearly inexperienced and overwhelmed, even though the restaurant wasn't crowded. The manager was invisible for most of the time we were there, and she didn't seem to do much even when she was visible. We had to ask for drink menus in addition to food menus, and we had a difficult time getting our waiter's attention--which seemed to be a common experience for other diners with other waiters. The runners bringing our order from the kitchen provided better service than the wait staff. The food wasn't bad, but not outstanding. If you're going out for a steak, there are better options in Stamford.
Food was excellent but the service was horrible. Drinks took forever, food came out wrong and waiter never checked on us.
this place has gone downhill since it first opened. I have always enjoyed the skirt steak as it was always well cooked to my request and very quality meat. I did not think so this past Monday night. Meat was definitely inferior, rice risotto too greasy, sausage inedible. I know it was restaurant week and I expect the portions to be small but I expect quality which we did not get. Our server was obviously new on the job that day and knew nothing about anything. And while he was very pleasant, that is not much help when you have questions. My husband and I have been going to Gauchos on a regular basis but we will not go again. To make we took our son who was visiting from out of state and he was amazed how bad it was
Met some friends there for dinner. It was an altogether enjoyable experience. The food and service were very good. I recommend this restaurant.
The food was great, but the ambience and service utterly lacking. The waiter almost never checked on us, even though there were only three tables seated in the whole place. He could barely speak English and when I asked for a Manhattan, he brought back a margarita. When I asked for a pork sausage, this time making sure he understood, he instead bright back morcilla, which I specifically told him we didn't want. With this kind of service I would prefer to cut out the middleman and just give my orders to the kitchen and bar directly.
We were the only party at the restaurant waited 11 minutes for someone to come to our table. Waited another 20 mins for drink orders and about the same for food. The staff was uninterested and didn’t seem to care an order of penne ala vodka was $28 I placed heavy emphasis on service this restaurant totally failed!
The place was almost empty and yet it took some time for the waiter to come and welcome us in. The food has a unique taste not Argentinian plates are OK but will need more flavor. Remember customers are looking for a full experience not only price.
This is a place for meat eaters. They have a few options for non-meat eaters but they aren't as good. Serveral people ordered the organic combo which was tasty, but the sides were skimpy. I would prefer less meat and more sides. The pasta dish someone ordered was a 70/100.
Excellent service, great food, good wine. desserts need to be improve.
What an awesome staff! Really impressed with our waiter and the pleasant experience we had that night. Food was great with nice presentation of perfect portions of steaks for the two of us. Wine suggestion was spot on too. Great value, great atmosphere, great food. Doesn't get much better than that. Highly recommended!
Great food, friendly service. Was concerned after reading some reviews that said the service was slow and/or rude and that the food was bland. Our experience could not have been more opposite. The only reason I give four stars instead of fine is that the bottle of wine we ordered off the menu was a 2011, but the bottle brought to us was a 2017. That usually equates to a huge difference in the taste of the wine. However, the server was very apologetic and quick to work with us to find another wine from the menu.
The food was authentic and service was excellent. Great location in the heart of downtown Stamford.
Great as always! Tuna ceviche is my favorite but this time I tried the grilled snapper and it was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive to our group,he heard it was our friend’s birthday and brought a beautiful dessert to celebrate. The food, atmosphere and service were all excellent!
It is a beautiful place to go to whether it’s your first date, anniversary, birthday celebration or just a night out with friends. It’s perfect!
Not what we expected...asked for appetizers and never got them...got the wrong side...steak had no taste...management was rude...waited over 45 mins to get our actual food. NoT worth it.
Great! Will go back!
Go here with my husband every couple weeks and share the Argentinian grill. Great deal. Great food. Great service. We usually share their crepes with caramel filling. Awesome job guys!
Always love their meats! I seldom eat red meat, but this is an exception! Great atmosphere here, great location which is in front of a small park and a fountain. I bet it’s a nice to sit here in the summer when they open up outdoor dining. Will be back soon!
My waiter spills a glass of water on me- think at least a glass of wine, a dessert on the house? Nope, thought I’m sorry was enough- didn’t feel good with that. Also, I wrote on my reservation that it was my daughters birthday and they ignored that.
Food was ok but not great. Chimichurri was blah and there was no salt and pepper at table.
Terrible food for the value. No flavor or taste. The best thing they had was the sauce and bread. They only had one waiter on a Sunday. Terrible for the fact that they advertise their special brunch. I do not recommend this place
Great Steak and Seafood. The ambiance is great with the music and decor.
Seating was too close to other people., took 45 minutes to get our drinks and when we did they forgot one persons wine..she had to ask 2 times for it..then our appetizer didn’t all come out together..and when we finally got our checks one was wrong. Not sure I’d return or recommend.
Very disorganized. Staff unprofessional. Our group of 4 had to be very proactive in getting service - both bar and food. With that said, dinner still took 2 1/2 hrs. It was a frustrating experience.
Worst service I have ever experienced in my life. 45 minutes for a glass of wine after being harassed to place our order 5 mins after sitting down.
Dont bother. The cuts of meat are cheap and the service is horrible.
Tried this out during restaurant week. Appetizers and desserts were fantastic. We had fish for the entree at a steak place, which was average but I wouldn’t judge too much on that since this place is basically known for its steaks. Will definitely try again.
We had never tried this restaurant so decide to have a romantic night out during Stamford restaurant week. We arrived early and had no trouble getting a good seat with a window view to watch the world go by outside in the cold!
We both had the fried calamari starter which was excellent, then the steak platter with fries and mash potatoes. Lots of well cooked meat, sausage paired with a strong Malbec which we could not finish. Our daughter devoured the take homes later.
Desert was crème brullee which was small sweet helping perfectly cooked again.
when the check arrived we could not believe how reasonable the price was, even for the restaurant week discount.
We will definitely go back for more and recommend you try this place out!!
La mejor mesera! Siempre con una sonrisa y muy amable. Comida excelente. Definitivamente tengo que volver!
We had a great time with our large group. Service was a little slow but I think it's part of the vibe. Everyone found something on the menu that they wanted and enjoyed. We had a range of preferences for how well/rare our steaks were to be cooked but each one was PERFECT! And the valet parking was a dream come true!
Ordered the mixed grill, asking for it to be cooked to a medium rare temperature. What came out was platter of well-done meat. The server, who checked in on us periodically throughout the meal, asked if we enjoyed the steak. When I explained that it was over-cooked, she immediately took the plate back to the kitchen and requested a replacement. I certainly appreciate the accommodation. What came back out, however, was still not at the right temperature. This time, some cuts were cooked to a cold, red center, which qualifies as rare. If the quality of the meet had been better, I might not have minded. But there was a certain funky flavor to the cuts that made us worry that we might be sickened from eating the undercooked beef. Even if the meet had been cooked to the correct temperature and it tasted okay, there was so much oil in the dish, that we were simply overwhelmed by the fat. Given that El Gaucho served such poorly butchered and fatty cuts of meet (and I don’t mean properly marbled here), no additional oil really needed to drench the platter. We will not be going back.
