Spanning the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, French Saloon borrows from the decadence and familiarity of the Parisian bar & bistro, while finding common ground with the enjoyment of raucous company and a sense of mischief. Start with Champagne and caviar at the bar, progress with steak tartare and bottles of Burgundy. A dining room to some, a bar for well-made cocktails and snacks for others – above all, a room for good fun and a party.

Excellent food and great selection of wine. Staff were professional and very knowledgeable about wine!
Great ambience, wine list, entre and desert so no complaints really. I probably didn't choose the best option for main for my palate. Need to sample again to firm up my view of the food.
The food is always wonderful. I so enjoy the vegetables and salads so much variety and taste, and as a vegetarian this is not usually the case when I dine out
Great food and wine with very attentive and knowledgeable staff (Philippe) thank you for a fabulous night cheers
Lovely luncheon enjoyed the food, the service and will happily return.
Perfect spot to meet up with friends for a midweek treat, starting with a drink and something tasty downstairs (Kirks Wine Bar) before heading up for more of the same plus some substantial dishes. Great wine list, good service and delightful ambiance.
We love this restaurant and have been on a number of occasions. The menu is reasonably small but everything on it is amazing. The staff are excellent, attentive and knowledgeable. It can become a little loud but not offensive. My only criticism is that we booked with Open Table and although I confirmed, our booking was not there when we arrived. Fortunately (it was a special occasion) the waiter was able to seat us and we didn't miss out but it could have been a disaster.
The best example of French bistro cuisine in Australia. And they have cassoulet on the menu which surprisingly is hard to find. Exceptional from the oysters and scallops, to the bouef and the cassoulet, to the finishing madelines, cheese board and dessert wines. A complete and authentic experience.
Our favorite spot in the city. Beautiful menu and brilliant staff.
Outstanding meal, delicious wine, can’t wait to go back!
The food was good.
The service was amazing, the wagu steak was phenomenal, the wine list was great. Over all the entire experience was absolutly fantastic.
The steak was tough so this was disappointing, especially as we picked the most expensive cut - the rest of the sides and starters were good.
Great food, service and ambience. Price was amazing too, nothing to fault.
Food and service is consistently excellent here. Amazing tuna ceviche.
I had the flounder it was rather tasteless and didn't come until everyone had finished their meals. They were apologetic and when I told them I wasn't happy in a polite way they took it off the bill.
Its not nice to eat alone!!!!!
It was amazing
A hidden treasure. I can’t speak highly enough. French Salon offers a whole dining experience. Absolutely amazing!!!!
Dinned at the French Saloon on several occasions now and always a great experience - well done again team.
Each dish was delicate and flavourful. Clearly substantial care and attention onto each dish. Menu options were a little limited and menu layout was slightly confusing. Internal seating was well planned to allow private conversation in an open seating configuration. Perfect from business lunch. Highly recommend French Saloon
The food was OUTSTANDING. The waitstaff were charming. It is a bit loud, though.
Good service - friendly and well informed. Excellent food, enjoyed all of 5 entrees (shared) and a delicious creme caramel for desert.
A relaxed and comfortable feel.
I look forward to returning soon!
The service was outstanding and the food was spectacular. Each course delivered an incredible range of surprising flavours.
Delicious as always! Went for an impromptu birthday dinner and was thoroughly impressed with the service and food! Star attraction was the raw tuna to start - flavours were beautiful! The 700g dry aged Cape Grim steak was immaculate and a special kudos to our waitress - she was a fantastic host and really added to our experience at French Saloon!
Amazing, I went to the French Saloon for my Girlfriends Birthday. The Staff were so friendly and nice, the food was beyond amazing, I am still dreaming about the Duck. I couldn't recommend a better venue in Melbourne
Amazing, the restaurant lives up to its reviews, which sadly is not the case for all restaurants in Melbourne. Totally worth flying to Melbourne for this.
We enjoyed our food but found the menu quite mystifying with some elements obviously priced/scaled for sharing and others apparently a single serve. The menu was not at all easy to navigate for anyone with special food needs, but our waitress gave us some pointers and that helped. The three of us ended up composing our shared meal of several sides and one mains which took some debate to pull into well composed meal. Because all the dishes were so disparate, it wasn't easy to combine them. While it took more effort than we wanted, what we ended up with was unusual and tasty. I would rate the experience higher except that we spent more time sorting out the menu than we wanted and that dominates the memory. Someone on a date night or wanting to just enjoy themselves might not enjoy it either. Thanks for a great meal but I remember the effort more than the food.
A wonderful evening where the ambiance had us feeling transported out of Melbourne. A mid sized intimated feeling restaurant with impeccable service and not too loud. Great for special occasions or a romantic night.
My first time to French Saloon and it was excellent. Great food, service and vibe.
A totally divine lunch in a restaurant that is confident in what it offers and does that extremely well. A pleasure to eat such beautifully prepared dishes where the ingredients are the superstars. Staff lovely and I would highly recommend for a small group or a special occasion.
Loved our special occasion lunch at French Saloon. Charming surroundings, excellent service, delicious food.
becareful with your choice of wine
dont stray from what you know best
Beautiful reasturant. Food was amazing and service perfect. The menu was very interesting and they have a great wine list. Highly recommend
The evening was wonderful, great food, excellent wine recommendations and amazing service. I felt special and indulged, I will return for another evening. Thank you.
Visited the French Saloon for my birthday. The service was very good, staff friendly and attentive. The meals were a mix between really nice and a little ho hum. Plus, I was hoping for some real french ambience. The place felt like a french restaurant but the 80's music, which was a little loud detracted from the experience. We each had an entree and main and shared a desert plus 4 alcoholic drinks and it was $226 which I felt was a touch expensive.
Amazing ! Both food and service , we loved everything and it is definitely joining our list of favourite restaurants in Melbourne. Just brilliant , well thought out dishes.
A favourite of mine when i've got friends visiting from out of town. Food is always amazing, service is 10/10. Wine list 10/10.
Fantastic restaurant. Great staff and food is amazing
First visit for dinner with teenage family. Attentive pleasant service. Catered well for my daughter with severe anaphylaxis food allergies. Authentic home cooked like French meals. Thank you. Definitely dine again.
Just so lovely to return to this restaurant - perfect ambiance and gorgeous food. Staff were attentive and professional
