About French Saloon
Climb the narrow flight of stairs up from the red brick lane to enter the saloon. A room that is at once spacious, open and rambling, one side lined by a wall of windows, the other a splendid bar of long fluted zinc; counterpoint to the perfectly proportioned, intimate beauty of its little brother downstairs.
Spanning the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, French Saloon borrows from the decadence and familiarity of the Parisian bar & bistro, while finding common ground with the enjoyment of raucous company and a sense of mischief. Start with Champagne and caviar at the bar, progress with steak tartare and bottles of Burgundy. A dining room to some, a bar for well-made cocktails and snacks for others – above all, a room for good fun and a party.

French Saloon Ratings and Reviews
Amazing! In the glut of Melbourne CBD restaurants comes something refreshing, with a twist on originals that taste so so good. The service and atmosphere were also incredible. Would definitely return, and the price was definitely worth it. Try the whipped cod roe and potato blinis, and you won’t regret it.
Is that a real mouse?
I have hosted 4 business lunches here entertaining clients
This time I was hosting three clients for dinner.
The food was great and everyone was enjoying it until halfway through the meal a little mouse was spotted under our table. We informed the wait staff and luckily we weren't too fussed and we were all males. As the host I did feel embarrassed as one of my clients spotted it not me. The female staff weren't sure what to do........
I suppose there isn't much you can do about it in full service but it just kept running along the wall where the windows are, darting in and out of the heaters set off the wall.
Not sure if I will be hosting any dinners there anytime soon as it has left a weird feeling in my stomach......
Once we found it, it was wonderful. Though the dining room was noisy, the food was fantastic. It may be my pick for best meal! The crab starter and the burrata starter were incredible. I couldn't talk the wAitress into the recipe but I hope tiger to Melbourne again just to have the burrata starter. The special flathead fish was perfect.
Best food with lovely service. A must!
A bit underwhelming. French?? Question that. People service is great. We ordered Steak as main and although cooked perfect rested too long and then dressed with cold chopped greens and oil so was very cool, borderline ok but not good enough at the cost. Place lacks any soft furnishings so is very noisey. Not the worst but many better at this priceline
Received an email from this OpenTable at the end of my meal scolding me for not turning up and asking why I had broken my booking. Made me realise how poorly organised front of house is as well as their hopeless customer service is. Although I’ve been several times, won’t be going back and will tell friends not to either.
We are a Ladies Lunch Group and love our dining experiences around Melbourne. The Food here was exquisite and the French Wines divine. The choice of menu was well balanced and the staff were amazing and so hospitable. Thank you from Ladies Who Lunch Bayside !
So wanted to like this, all the reviews said I should. Thought is was below average the first time so thought try again. Well same disinterested man greats you! Same inordinately long wait to gets served. Same overcooked steak that's really not great value for money. That its no more second chances. If I am feeling like French Bistro it's France Soir all the way!
Don't go to the French Saloon expecting high end french with all the special sauces. This is more bistro style with simple food cooked well. The food was tasty but uncomplicated. The ambience a bit busy and noisy for my taste but clean and bright. The service was very good.
