The ambiance was delightful, the staff were very helpful and friendly...and the food delicious! Best espresso martini I’ve had 🤗
Looking forward to visiting again
Average food with below average service. This place has slipped.
We chose this restaurant for a pre-theatre dinner as the opening hours suited and it served french cuisine (show we were seeing was set in Paris). It was virtually empty which should have given us a hint as many of the other restaurants that were open early were packed. The service was good and meal arrived without too much of a wait. I had the mussels in a white wine broth with baguette. The mussels were nice but the broth was very thin in taste. Just as well as the baguette was crusty but very doughy; not at all like it should have been so I didnt bother to soak up the broth. My husband had the duck and again, while it was tender and looked appetising, the flavour in the sauce just wasn't there. Very disappointed and would not recommend if you are after decent french food.
The staff were so very friendly & informative about the menu. We would have loved the background music to have been of French influence instead of a loud modern play list.
The pate was devine, the drinks & cocktails very enjoyable.
Food is ok but not great.
We had a shared entree of baked camembert, cheese was tasty, drizzled with honey, served with cold dry baguette & petite salad, I would suggest a crusty warm bread would be much nicer.
My main was Duck a l'orange, the meat was tender enough, served with potato & pumpkin but no sauce, so really quite dry.
Partners main of Mushroom Risotto was ok but served very sloppy & watery.
Side salad was fresh & served with a good dressing.
Dessert was a creme brulee, a very thin layer of toffee on top, little flavour, eggy & not a good creamy texture.
Service is average at best, a touch arrogant.
Staff need better skills at up-selling, rather than saying...as they clear your Main plate..."do you want anything else?" Perhaps they would drive more sales if they were to say something such as "can I tempt you with the dessert menu?" Or..."can I offer you another glass of wine/coffee?"
We sat toward the back of the restaurant in front of the kitchen glass display/spare storage fridge. The contents of the fridge should be hidden away from public view, meats etc. in clear plastic bags, unsealed with the tops wide open. Also a tray of something yellowish in shallow white ramekins with the contents overflowing & spilling out all over the tray, disgusting.
I have given this restaurant three or four tries over the years but it has never been outstanding, always just mediocre.
I think I would prefer to spend my money at a better quality French restaurant in the future.
Outstanding service with sensational food. Went on a Monday night so was quiet but really enjoyed the meal.
Disappointing, but I will try to be constructive. Upon arrival we ordered wine and then within 5 minutes ordered our meals. I ordered the 3 course degustation (Onion soup, Duck l'orange and cheese board) and my wife ordered an entree (calamari) and a main of pork belly. Our entree came out in 35 minutes which I consider extremely tardy. Upon finishing our entrees, I ordered another wine. After an hour had passed, the waiter (or possibly manager) came and informed my wife that they were "out of pork belly, would we like to order something else". Seriously...an hour after we ordered, they now only realise they didn't have our order? So my wife changed the order to a steak. The mains then came out about 20 minutes later. My wife's steak was excellent, but unfortunately my duck l'orange was cold! It was as if it had been sitting in the kitchen for 45 minutes waiting for the change in order. After we finished that course we had a cheese platter (which was good) and then paid and left. When I paid, the total was about $35 short than what was expected. We could only assume that they had decided to give a discount/or not charge for my wife's meal. If that was the case, then I would have appreciated an explanation and/or an apology. This would have been more palatable. In the 2 hours we were there, the waiter only refilled our water once. Seriously guys...you can do so much better. The service needs to improve dramatically. I guess next time we want 'french food, we will go to a restaurant, and not a bar/bistro. Has potential, but generally poor experience. I will not be returning unless things improve.
The food is always excellent and the staff very attentive
It was a most enjoyable meal, the food and wine were superb!
The lunch menu could be improved. My Coq au vin was shredded chicken in sauce with rice so not as I expected. Both mains were quite salty.
We went to French Martini from a South Bank google search. While the venue was not what we expected, more casual than we thought. The food and wine was reasonable with attentive service.
We went for my girlfriends Birthday last week. Read Google reviews but was still keen to find out for ourselves as our favourite French Restaurant is now closed. It was an unusually quiet Thursday night in all of South Bank. The Service was lovely and the overall experience was good. Overall $$ was not over the top for 4 drinks, 2 entrees, 2 mains and shared desert… free parking was a bonus!!! The escargot was interestingly different to the usual way they are served and would have preferred a choice. My French soup was lukewarm at best but didn’t want to send it back for the same reasons in another review. But our mains… the Salmon and Duck more then made up for it as well the Creme Brûlée!!! Thank you for the lovely evening… Cheers
We arrived at 4.45 pm, having booked online. They only had a couple of snack available, as they had no chef. It served the purpose. It would be nice to return when a chef is available.
The salmon was great unfortunately the rib fillet steak was terrible. I would recommend they change their butcher and as coles sells better steaks.
Nice location however the service and standard of food served was ordinary. It was a quiet weekday with a group of four. I noted that it was a birthday booking however no mention of this when we arrived. Meals were ordinary and no service staff around to order more drinks or to take our plates from the table after we had finished our mains. Left and went to another restaurant for dessert and cocktails after.
The French martini is a pleasant way to start eating French. Nice helpings, great service and great flavour.
There isn’t anything positive I would say about my experience at French Martini. Service very poor despite plenty of staff. Food terrible and long waits between each course. Music very loud. Really disappointing.
We had a lovely experience for our 5th anniversary at French Martini. The staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere really set us up for a relaxing evening. The food was a bit higher in price than what we usually would pay when going out, but after tasting it, we were not disappointed.
Really yummy French dining. Staff and service was excellent
