Founding Farmers - Reston
As a farmer-owned restaurant, almost all of our delicious food and drink – from our freshly baked bread and house-churned butter to our craft cocktails with our proprietary spirits – is made from scratch, using high-quality ingredients from American family farms.
Our First Bake is available weekday mornings for takeaway breakfast and our specialty blend of Compass Coffee. We hope our Reston guests will enjoy all that is Founding Farmers.
I have been to Founding Farmers several times and I can’t say I keep coming back for the food. The ambience is great & the location is ideal for business meetings & happy hour. I particularly love the appetizers especially the fried green tomatoes & cauliflower hummus. The entrees, though, I find way too salty & overly infused with oil. Even their highly touted fried chicken is quite underwhelming. The prime rib, when available, is probably the best thing you’ll find on the menu. Get a couple of donuts to go to make it worth your trip!
I go there pretty regularly for lunch and it never disappoints. The menu is very diverse and I try something new every time and I am never disappointed.
Kevin was a GREAT waiter. Personable, knowledgeable, and funny. Food was good. Prices for some of the apps was a bit high. Non-alcoholic drinks was high (rickey). Donuts for dessert were COLD??
The service could not have been slower, the arrival of drinks, The appetizers took forever to come and then the meals came just after the appetizer was delivered. The restaurant was absolutely very cold. Waitress was not friendly and very firm.
I was so disappointed... our server was so kind but it was clear he did not have customers with food allergies often. When we arrived I asked if we could sit at a little bigger table but they said no. Within 5-10 minutes they were seating pairs of guests at larger tables. The menu clearly stated that if you have food allergies this wasn’t the restaurant for you. Still I was hopeful since it was a farm to table restaurant that they might be able to work with my allergies. We eventually find a chia bowl they could leave out the apples but it was not.very good. It was a small bowl too for the price. Overall... the ambiance was nice but not a place for people with food allergies.
Our server Kevin was exceptional. Too bad the food was just so-so...arrived cold and our orders were a bit mixed up. I ordered over easy eggs and got over medium; my friend ordered over medium and got over easy. Then to top it all off our “validated” ticket was apparently not validated because I ended up having to pay to exit the parking garage!
Fairly frequent guest. Bacon lollis not up to par, was explained the current issue with bacon. Then really don’t put it on the menu. Comp’d for the problems with them. The wait for non—alcoholic drinks was unacceptable, after apps. Service was overall slow. Restaurant not as crowded as we have seen it (Sunday before holiday, restaurant week be prepared). Ice cream was gross, had to literally chew it, problems there which we didn’t mention as it had been a long slow night of problems. Probably will be awhile before we venture back.
Service is very slow
My husband and I always have a wonderful experience. Thank you
Founding Farmers is one of my favorite brunch locations but this was my first time having brunch at the Reston location. This location is very spacious and the service was phenomenal. We were advised upon seating that the brunch selection was a little different from the Tyon's location but I did not miss anything because they still had all my favorites (mac and cheese, fried chicken, salmon, etc.) I recommend Founding Farmers for brunch and I highly recommend the Reston location.
Great atmosphere and food. It was perfect for a catch up brunch with a friend. I would look to dine here as well fore business lunches.

It was pretty great. We ordered cornbread. They were out so added bread. I ordered coffee but it was not brought. Small stuff. We visit often and Reston is my preferred location
I tend to believe you get what you pay for. Here we got a lot but we also paid a LOT. The food was excellent and so was the service - just a bit overpriced.
Hi Great: Many thanks for your 5-STAR review! We appreciate it and hope to have you back soon! :) -Amy
Our server, Harold, was amazing! He recommend drink and entrees that were delicious. We were celebrating a birthday and we were treated like royalty. Excellent service and food!
Hi Monica: Aww! Many thanks for sharing this with us! We really appreciate it and already look forward to welcoming you back soon. :) -Amy
Great Restaurant week options!
Our family of four had dinner at Founding Farmers/Reston on a Friday night. The restaurant itself is gorgeous- great decor, great space, nice overall vibe. The service was quite slow- we didn't see our waiter often enough. One of our meals wasn't what was ordered and it took a long time to replace it. The food was good but nothing great. The chicken on my spicy fried chicken salad was way overcooked and was way too spicy. I would go back for something at the bar because I really like the atmosphere.
Great food we all enjoy -
Waiter was very patient with our children -
Restaurant week lunch was a great success. Food and service were good...and portions very generous. In fact, some took get a free dessert at a later time coupons as well as our doggie bags. Thanks!
We went for restaurant week and I believe they had to put the entire order in at the same time which meant one of our appetizers arrived after lunch and the other appetizer arrived with lunch. I’m old school and like my appetizers first. The food was really great thought!
Hi RochelleL: Thank you for your review, and our team is real sorry for the timing of all your ordered items. :/ We will surely take this into account for the next time we participate in RW. We do appreciate your feedback and hope to have you back sometime soon!! -Amy
Restaurant not easy to get to but first time at this location. Very cold and drafty from ceiling where the three of us were seated. We were moved a few tables over. Better but still needed to keep coats on throughout meal. Legs and feet still very chilly and I'm not a person who gets cold easily. Btw, three other parties seated and moved from our area. Food was tasty. Famous donuts were not impressive. Path to restrooms was treacherous and not well planned for this new restuarant. You need to walk around and behind bar - busy path for servers getting ice and drinks and there was water on floor all over. Toilet areas in ladies room very dark. Best part of our lunch was our wonderful server, George. He was efficient and friendly and helpful.
Hi ChefNot: We appreciate your review and the details shared from your experience with us. I am so sorry for the many parts of this visit that landed short. :( We will surely take into account your feedback about the temperature in the restaurant, the maintenance of the walkway to the restroom, as well as the preparation of our donuts. Of course, we do hope to have you back for another try and call us anytime for a reservation: 703- 988-7333. -Amy
We came with our family to celebrate our son’s birthday. We ordered the cheddar biscuits and avacodo toast as appetizers. Then we ordered some drinks including wine, beer, strawberry soda, and iced tea. Then we ordered our entrees. We ordered the fish on special, the salmon, the spicy fried chicken, the farmers combination and the impossible burger and Mac and cheese. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. We really enjoyed our meal.
Service was excellent. Food was delicious, though my least favorite was the fried green tomatoes.
Our experience at the Reston Founding Farmers was delightful! Couldn’t have been better. Love the cornbread!
My daughter and I had a wonderful meal and time together the other night at your Reston location. Our waitress (wish I could remember her name) was absolutely fabulous!! She was busy but didn't rush us or put any pressure on us to order. She made fabulous suggestions for the 2 of us and we had a fantastic evening! We will be back for sure!
Hi abskelly: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We hope to have you and your daughter back again soon. :) -Amy
Took a long time to be waited on after seating. Manager very apologetic and comped dessert. Food and drinks were very good.
Recently visited FF tysons and the service was less than stellar. Reston location was awesome.
We took advantage of Restaurant Week to try Reston's branch of Founding Farmers which is actually the closest for us. Our server was excellent - she was knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. Their restaurant week menu was generous. We tried their bacon "lolls" and corn bread for appetizers and for our entree: southern fried chicken and the beef pot roast. All of it was very enjoyable. The restaurant space was inviting and the validated parking was convenient. We will be back.
Loved in the past - this visit a disappointment. Food only so-so, service tepid.
Hi Miki: Oh no. I am real sorry we let you down this time with "so-so" food and "tepid" service. :( I would love the chance to follow up and learn more about your visit, as well as make this right! That said, I will send you a personal msg with my email address. -Amy
Food and ambiance was amazing
Noelia was attentive, charming, and engaging. She took care of all our request before we made em. The food was great. Missed alot of the regulars but many of the new people were very nice
Hi ChristopherE: Thank you for your kind review and 5-STAR rating. :) We appreciate it and hope to have you back soon. -Amy
Sunday breakfast/ brunch buffet is awesome, but really lacks fresh fruit choices.
Good food but I’ll pass on the “bro waiter” - who clearly was not focused on the tables he was supposed to be waiting on.
Service was slow. Food came out cold. Validation for parking did not work. Dressing for salad never came. Maple syrup for waffles came out when food was done. Donuts were not fresh or warm. Very disappointed.
Skyler and the team crushed it as usual. New pasta is amazing. New biscuits are out of this world.
Hi Kenny: Thank you so much! We really appreciate your awesome review and look forward to your return. :) -Amy
Food was okay but no more. Serving coffee or grits without a spoon? No other restaurant would do so - but FF consistently misses the mark in terms of small service details. Frustrating, because I really want to like the place and the outstanding locations.
Amazing food and wines, so delicious and creative, nothing close to mundane. Interior design makes the place both cozy and invigorating. Service was also beyond of expectations - highly attentive, friendly, and thoughtful staff.
Hi TatsianaS: Thank you so much! We appreciate your wonderful review and hope to have you back soon. :) -Amy
Multiple things were wrong with our meals: including a member of our party with a cilantro allergy asked specifically for the salad to not have cilantro in it.
It did. It was communicated to the kitchen, and it was not our waiters fault.
A cauliflower steak was nothing but a head of cauliflower slightly cooked and grilled (not a steak at all, which one would assume is the middle cut of the cauliflower and not the head. It was $18 and way overpriced.
Another member of our party had to send back his tuna because there were banana peppers in the dish and there was no mention of anything spicy on the menu ingredients.
The waiter tried to rebuttal that the restaurants philosophy was such that not everything in the dish is mentioned because its ever changing. And thats why they ask if there are any allergies or preferences when ordering meals.
It seemed like a really backwards way of ordering food. The tried and true method of telling the customer exactly what is in the dish and letting the customer make an informed decision has worked for millions of other restaurants from fast food joints to fine dining establishments. It seems counter productive for a customer to list any food allergy or dislike they can think of while ordering a meal. No one would ever think there would have been banana peppers in a tuna steak with risotto. How is one supposed to order in this restaurant?
The last large guffaw was when two members of our party had to send back cold mocha lattes that had just come to us.
We asked to speak to the manager and they gave us a $25 gift card for the next time.
A clever way of making sure we would return.
Its a corporate run restaurant masquerading as a farm to table establishment. There isn’t enough quality control when you don’t stick to the exact same ingredients on the menu.
Next time we have a large family dinner out, we will skip on this establishment.
We had a good dinner. I had the risotto and shrimp and crab. It was outstanding. However I would say the shrimp were a little overdone. I would order for just the risotto and crab meat regardless of the shrimp. My son had the chicken jambalaya. It was essential chicken on rice with a salad. Good. But not a typical jambalaya. Everyone had some variation with the fried chicken. But everyone agreed that my dish of risotto and crab meat was the winner. Fun place with great drinks
Hi Missychrissy: Thank you for your wonderful review! :) We really appreciate it and hope to have you & your family back for another outstanding dinner. Please call us anytime for a reservation: 703-988-7333. -Amy
