Forage & Chatter Ratings and Reviews
Great hosts even though we had mixed up our booking time and were 45mins late. Interesting menu and wine list, great food well presented and knowledgeable staff providing excellent service. Thankyou and we recommend to anyone who appreciates top quality food and service.
A lovely place. I'm vegan, my company not, but we both got superb food. The pearl barley risotto was amazing and when there was no vegan dessert on the menu, the chef improvised and gave me two different choices, and it was so good. I can absolutely recommend it to both vegans and omnivores!
Extremely professional and friendly staff, cool and cosy atmosphere even in the summer heat. Wine was incredible value given the quality, but most importantly the food was outstanding with very good veggie options for my girlfriend. Would absolutely recommend to anyone in the area who wants fine dining at a reasonable price. Lastly, the staff pointed us in the direction of the better local bars for after; so this place set the pace for a really good night!
With a relaxed and customer focussed approach, the service, food and beverage options were perfect for our business lunch but would also suit a private lunch or dinner. Great location with a range of dining spaces providing intimate or conservatory style dining, both are throughly recommended.
Small and friendly restaurant. The (many) staff were friendly and helpful people; it was a varied menu with not too many choices and a good choice of wines and pre-dinner gins. My partner and I had 3 courses each, both of us having different choices - all the food was well prepared and presented and very tasty. Would highly recommend and would go again when I am next in Edinburgh. Please go .... you will not be disappointed.
The food was absolutely delicious, the staff were so attentive and helpful, the service was excellent, the atmosphere was perfect and the building is cosy, rustic and wonderful. We have eaten at so many places in the UK and Europe and this has to be top of the list as one of our favourites! First class restaurant and highly recommended. A little gem.
Returned to Forage and Chatter to celebrate my partner's birthday. From the warm welcome to the last goodbye, this was a lovely experience.
An interesting menu which made choosing difficult - the food was beautifully presented and the flavours were skillfully balanced - indeed both courses were characterised by their lightness and succulence - the fish was especially well cooked and presented.
Service was top notch again - the attention to detail was excellent and highlighted the concern to make the experience as enjoyable as possible.
Five stars for everything.
Forage & Chatter is quite a find. The food was delicious (the lamb was amazing) and the service very welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere was really cosy. A mistake was made with our order but it was put right without any fuss and because of the very positive way it was handled it made the dining experience even better. As we had to dash for a train one of the team went ahead of us to flag down a taxi - great service. Very highly recommended.
First time here and will definitely return . Service friendly and good Very cleverly converted rooms to get natural light on back patio and each area very compact. Menu was varied and different and really enjoyed the meal especially need to leave room for the puds! Only draw back is the 90 minute restriction on table time which felt decidedly rushed
From the minute my wife and I, on the occasion of her birthday, walked into the restaurant, I was pretty sure this was going to be a special lunch. And it was. The staff were so friendly and very helpful and the ambience was somewhat serene. The food was excellent, especially the liver parfait and pork belly, as was the wine. And all at fantastic value, considering what some places charge for similar offerings. I couldn't fault our lunch experience at all. Wonderful!
Absolutely outstanding restaurant. The level of hospitality shown towards my wife and I was the best we have experienced. The staff were very helpful, recommended gins and drinks to accompany the meal. The food was very good indeed and beautifully presented. I have no negative comments or areas for development. Very pleased we booked this for our first visit to Edinburgh.
Excellent meal and reasonably priced. Owners and staff were very personable. Waiter asked allergies before taking our order, which was awesome and he came up with some great substitutes. Fresh ingredients, nice flavors. Really enjoyed the monkfish and the lamb.
Even better than anticipated. The owners and staff were very warm, welcoming and knowledgable. The menu offered a wonderful variety. Each of the items ordered were beautifully and creatively prepared. This was the most positive over-all experience I've had at a restaurant. I will make a point to travel to Edinburgh again, just to visit this phenomenal restaurant.
The entrance was not too impressive but fairly typical for some basement type Edinburgh places. The lobby/bar area was very welcoming but seemed to lead to a fairly dark interior. All did not bode well. However, our waitress took us through to a small covered courtyard at the back which was airy, light and magical. The whole ambience was great and I felt very strongly that the interior would be perfect for a winter's lunch, warm, cosy and intimate.
The set lunch menu was excellent value for money and even though choice was limited this was not a problem. I had my heart set on pork belly but this was off the menu on the day so I had the replacement beef fillet instead. One mouthful of this and I had forgotten the pork, cooked to perfection, succulent, tender and so tasty. I don't know who the chef is but she/he produced a superb meal.
My companions were equally impressed and satisfied. I don't normally have dessert but after the excellence of the first two courses I had to have one. Again I was not disappointed by the chocolate creation that I was served which was such a light delight. If you add excellent service to the culinary experience then it is fair to say that we had a superb lunch.
Our thanks to the Forage and Chatter team for such a wonderful experience.
We were lucky enough to get into Forage and Chatter for a dinner with friends and we all had a wonderful time. The food was delicious and the owners and servers were so warm and friendly it made our evening more than just a dinner. It was a wonderful experience that we will long remember. I highly recommend this lovely restaurant.
Amazingly one of the best meals ever. Complex and imaginative food combined to make a surprisingly unfussy presentation. Flavors were out of this world. Staff was helpful and attentive, even though they were apparently short-handed that evening. There was a small, enclosed courtyard which I might have preferred, but the quiet indoor space was also lovely.
I am very, very particular about what I taste and eat, and if this review sounds like I am gushing, it is because the restaurant deserves top compliments! Make reservations well ahead of time (and be aware the restuarnt is one flight down from street level).
