Fabulous food, locally sourced and seasonal. I can highly recommend the cured trout and beef sirloin. Staff friendly and prepared to go the extra mile to give diners a memorable experience. Excellent value for money.

Fantastic meal and staff, and very good value for lunch. Kept our 3 year old entertained with good healthy kids menu also. Thank you!

Loved this restaurant. Not a Hugh menu but quality and ambiance together with fantastic attentive staff make it a real winner. A must try if you're visiting Edinburgh.

My new favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. The starters all looked amazing, so I had three. They tasted as good as they looked. The trout in particular was exceptional. Good choice of interesting wine. Attentive but not intrusive service. Will be back, often.

I'd booked this restaurant having found it on line and reading TripAdvisor reviews. It was a business meal, entertaining a client, so I was anxious that it lived up to the very good reviews. Thankfully it did. The ambience was nice, a very warm welcome from one of the owners (family business), excellent food, knowledgeable staff. I couldn't fault it, and am already planning a trip (from Yorkshire!) to take my boyfriend up there to try it.

My wife and I visited on Valentine's Night 2017 - and we were most impressed with the overall food and service experience. This restaurant definitely deserves to succeed! We shall return without doubt.

Ticks all the boxes - and more.

It is really pleasing - and a bit unusual - to find attentive service and a warm welcome. The note that I had sent on booking was attended to and a quiet corner table was provided. The menus were interesting and thought-provoking - making a choice really difficult - one of everything came to mind!

Choices made from the a la carte menu were really quite oustanding - especially the ox cheek main course - and both that and the starters were beautifully presented - a treat for our taste buds.

Overall, a really delightful Valentine's lunch - complemented by discrete, efficient and friendly service. There is no doubt that we will be returning and we have already told several friends about this gem .

This is a very special place. The restaurant is delightful - modern and yet comfortable and warming. Fabulous food which has familiar ingredients but just a little bit different and very very good. The owners are passionate about their restaurant and the food and are happy to share the story of both! We loved it and will definitely be back.

This is the second time my friend and I have eaten here; first was for lunch not long after doors opened, this visit was for dinner. Both times, the food was really delicious. A special thanks for the surprise gin and tonic! The amuse bouche (South African dough balls and dips) was really tasty. My venison was cooked perfectly as was my friend's steak. Forage and Chatter hasn't lost any of the charm of Edinburgh Larder but their own stamp has been laid on the restaurant. I'll happily go back again and have no hesitation in recommending it. Good luck guys with the venture!

My husband and I visited this place for the first time on a Friday evening since the refurbishment, having been there only once before the new owner took over. We were welcomed by very friendly and kind staff who paid us attention and care throughout our meal. The food was amazing and the combination of flavors and ingredients was impressive. Everything was seasonal and very well balanced. We regret we were so full we didn't manage to try any dessert but I'm sure we wouldn't be disappointed. Everything was perfect and I'd really recommend to everyone. We will certainly be back!

Server was very friendly and welcoming, food was quite expensive - but the set menu was very reasonable (though choice was limited). However, everything I ordered on that menu was delicious and just the right amount of filling. Will return! :)

What a find! A new little gem, interesting menu, cute size restaurant, peaceful calm atmosphere. Feels 'fancy' but not too formal. I'd go for a date, catch up with small group of friends, or business. There's two areas, one which a bit of romantic date feel to it.

The chef clearly talented, and just opened, I can't wait to go back. If throughly recommend the pork and squid starter, delicious!

We had a lovely evening. The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable with excellent decor and a delightful conservatory with real ambience. The service was efficient, friendly and informative. Our meals were absolutely superb both the beef feather blade and the venison were cooked to perfection and the taste was phenomenal. One of our party had the pearl barley vegetarian choice and thoroughly enjoyed the blend with celeriac. The lemon curd sweet with douglas fir was amazing light and exquisite, the apple gratin a lovely warming scrumptious pud for a winter's evening. It was a birthday celebration and the staff and other diners made it both a pleasurable and memorable experience. We will certainly be back as often as possible.

Overall very good indeed. My monkfish was a little on the salty side but everything else excellent. Good service, friendly staff and nice ambience. I would definitely go back next time I'm in Edinburgh. The prices are also pretty good for the standard of food.

We happen upon F&C from a recommendation from OT. Cameron runs the place and is as charming as the food is good. Nicholas, his brother served us with a warm and friendly flair.

We dined with them twice on our visit to a Edinburgh and each time we all ordered something different...hence we sampled everything on the menu. Each entree and starter was extremely fresh and nuanced by the gifted chef to make our dinner experience unforgettable Scottish experience. If your in Edinburgh RUN do not walk to Forage & Chatter! My only fear is it might loose some of its Scottish charm once the word gets out.

Our meal exceeded all expectations. There were three of us, and we were all blown away by the quality of the food, the exceptional service and the atmosphere. This place is situated in a basement in the west end of Edinburgh. Inside it is unpretentious, comfortable without being luxurious, and the menu is simple and straightforward. The food is superb. We will go back.

Our 2nd Visit

We first visited 2 months ago, this fabulous new eatery on the Edinburgh scene. We were not disappointed on our first visit and it was so refreshing to see that they were as good as they were 2 months ago after newly opening. The decoration is now complete and the service was again consistently very good. The food was as good all over again. In fact , everything was better and more polished than 2 months ago. We are so looking forward to our next visit. We highly recommend a visit to this gem.

New restaurant - only open for 6 weeks. Great addition to the Edinburgh dining scene. Central location at west end. Beautiful decor. Main plus point is the food & drink - local produce, innovative dishes that were all delicious. Staff very attentive but not overly so. Will definitely be returning!
