Forage & Chatter Ratings and Reviews
Quality meal for family outing last Saturday evening - from the excellent Mushroom starter, the very tasty and well-cooked Hake to the Sea Buckthorn dessert. The sommelier / host was very friendly, witty and knowledgeable and equally generous in letting-us 'try' others of his lovely wines. Cosy ambience and atmosphere, highly recommended.
We live locally and eat out regularly. Martin Wishart's restaurant in Leith is our favourite place for a special occasion but, this time, based on recent reviews, we decided to try Forage & Chatter. We were not disappointed. From start to finish, the food was fantastic. We tried 4 of the 6 starters, 3 of the main courses and 2 of the sweets. All were so delicious that we couldn't single any out in a review. When my husband told the manager that the 'beetroot' starter was his idea of food hell, the manager gave him it, free of charge, to try out. Like all the courses, it was done with a twist-delicious, fresh ingredients, in unusual combinations, cooked perfectly. Service was similarly high- informally attentive, perfect timing and great recommendations from a friendly, knowledgeable team. We also liked the playlist! We'll definitely be back. Our only concern is the length of the waiting list as this place is set to become a favourite for many.
Four of us went here whilst on a weekend trip to Edinburgh. The staff were very friendly and attentive, the food was amazing and very creative, the ambience special but relaxed. We left the restaurant feeling very happy having had some amazing food and some lovely wine. We would all highly recommend that you eat here!
Relying on Trip Advisor we booked a table in advance of a brief trip to look around the University. On arriving at the restaurant, located in Edinburgh's West End, we were encouraged by both the warm greeting and the fact that a 'walk in' had just been turned away as they were fully booked (Tuesday night).
The food was excellent with interesting ingredient combinations that offered a good variation of textures and flavours, all cooked and presented skilfully. The service was friendly, efficient and professional. They offer a good variety of craft beers and the wine list is well considered and good value - notably a Montrachet for £58!
It's impressive that having only been open 5 months they have already established themselves as one of the top eateries in the city. We will definitely be back when in Edinburgh next.
Simply outstanding dining experience, the staff were exemplary and catered for your every need without being obtrusive, the quality of the food, from ingredients, presentation and taste was sublime, and the wine selection excellent...we'll definitely be back.
I booked this restaurant for myself and two friends based on the excellent reviews and it did not disappoint! A lovely family run restaurant in the west end of Edinburgh.. what a gem! Tasteful decor, lovely service and excellent food! They went out of their way to make you feel welcome! We will definitely go back and highly recommend!!
Overall we enjoyed our meal here - the menu was very creative and it was tough to choose since it all sounded nice. The ingredients were unusual and exiting, and obviously skill had gone into the cooking. We really enjoyed the food - especially the starters and the chocolate dessert which was out of this world. The drawback was the service - we were served by about 6 different people. The waitresses' mood seemed to fluctuate from happy to almost aggressive and she made a point of criticising our wine choice. All the staff dealt with us in a really casual way, they were chatty which I really wouldn't mind normally but it was too much it just wasn't professional at all. Overall though it is a nice place, and I would recommend it.
Great wee basement restaurant with super friendly and staff that knew how to do their job and delivered. The food was really good - so good we managed 3 courses after a 25 minute rest - it was worth doing. Often find desserts are a let down or derivative of common desserts - not here. Appreciated that even though really busy on a Rugby International weekend we never felt like they were pushing to get our table back. We also thought it was very good value. Our only feedback for improvement was it was very hot, even when we arrived when it was virtually empty. Good luck with your on-going adventure - you deserve to be successful.
A frequent dinner, I would rate this dining experience as one of the best I have enjoyed in Edinburgh. The restaurant is conveniently located and the interior comfortable and welcoming. The set lunch was delicious, representing outstanding value. My choice of beetroot salad was thoroughly refreshing, followed by pearl barley risotto, served piping hot and superbly flavoured. The cinsault rose delicious and very reasonably priced. Staff could not have been more attentive and friendly. Will definitely return.
My second visit since it opened. The standards are extremely high, the food excellent (all ingredients foraged locally) and the staff are friendly and accommodating.
As a foodie, this quickly became my favourite place for food. Their cocktails are amazing too!
Excellent presentation, happy friendly staff and such an enjoyable meal. The wine list is very good particularly Chenin Blanc from South Africa and Chilean Merlot.
Set menu great value. Took a la carts this time and cured trout for starters, followed by curried monkfish and aged sirloin with Ox beer braised. Tremendous. Back again very soon
These guys have been open for a few months and created something beautiful. Excellent front of house to superb chefs. Ask them them to mix you a cheeky cocktail, they will surprise you. The bill was high but worth ever penny and I'd pay it again, I pray I'm back in the city soon.
Our server had a genuine knowledge of the food and was happy to answer any questions. The food was faultless and far exceeded my expectations. A few more options on the menu would be nice but what they do, they do very well. Would highly recommend for foodies.
Forage and Chatter is a lovely little place in Edinburgh's West End. The staff are very friendly and the food is excellent. It is not trying to be a Michelin starred place, but is a good example of somewhere at the level just below this doing a great job (think Wedgwood, Atelier etc)
A really lovely evening. The food and wine were both exceptional, with every dish a delightful adventure. We were also very well looked after; from start to finish, the service was fantastic. We would thoroughly recommend Forage & Chatter and are already looking forward to our next visit.
This restaurant is exceptionally good. The food is fabulous - best I've eaten outside London for a long time and surpassing a michelin starred meal I had the previous evening. Lovely, committed and passionate service. Really nice touches for a birthday. My new go-to in Edinburgh for sure.
Absolutely outstanding food, service and atmosphere. Extremely professional, courteous and friendly staff created an experience that wasn't too slow or too rushed, and every dish we tried was fascinating and tasty in equal measure. Michelin star experience without the fussiness, just a warm, welcoming feel and great cooking.
Stunning food- absolutely delicious. Imaginative, perfectly balanced and cooked, beautifully presented. Not cheap but fantastic value- everything was perfect. Lovely to feel we'd discovered this gem so soon after opening- am sure it will become v difficult to get a table! Highly recommended- and great to be served by the owner and his brother and share in their enthusiasm and passion. Go! £91 for two- 3 courses each, 500 ml of good wine and a couple of gins. Fabulous. Thanks
From the outside to inside the decor is subtle and Scottish.
Staff were very attentive and it was reasonably busy for the wed night we visited. A good sign!
Food was beautiful (I had monkfish and my friend had the beef) - Great flavours without being overpowering.
Also the wine we had was lovely for the middle of the range white we selected.
Only wee things I would change would be less salty chips and we were charged for water (which we queried and it was taken off).
