Fitzroy Social Ratings and Reviews
We were ding for my wife's birthday. The service was great and the food was magnificent.
We were staying in Victoria parade so it was just two short tram rides to the restaurant.
We have already recommended this restaurant to others.
I cannot remember eating better food than we did on Friday; no fooling.
We live in Colac but we will be going back to Fitzroy Social without a doubt.
We went on a voucher for Sunday evening 6pm. Was already buzzing not over full. Food was delicious and hot. A couple of mix ups with the neighbouring table - we were given their food twice by different male waiters. Overall, we had a good night with our main waiter Katrina who was on the ball and picked up the slackness of the other waiters. She new instantly what we had ordered without checking and apologized for the mix up. Katrina was delightful, bubbly and although busy - was always attentive to us.
This was the first time we have been to Fitzroy Social. We were truly surprised. The food was very special and the wine complimented it. Stephanie waited on us and she was friendly, efficient and an assert to Fitzroy Social. We highly recommend this venue and we will return as soon as we can.
Excellent service by Juan.
Food is much better than last time, only downside was the Salmon, very small, no skin and overcooked. Surf and Turf is perfect.
The place is not full and still loud.
Coffee is BAD, eventhough I'm always happy to pay $4.00
Is it a bar, high end Pub or a restaurant?????
For a start, the music is LOUD, a gigantic speaker above our table doesn't help when one is trying to converse.
The Bar area is happening, quite a few patrons on a Thursday night having their Christmas party I would say.
Table and chairs aren't comfortable, no linen, no set up, on a casual cafe style, those transparent plastic chair looks cool but aren't comfortable.
Service was good, albeit slow as they only have a few staff to tend us all.
On the food side, disappointing;
Stand out was the mixed Entree of Pork belly, Arrancini, Calamari and bread with dipping sauce, 4/5.
Mains are mostly disappointing, hard crusted Lamb cutlets, overcooked Salmon, but perfectly grilled steak (Surf & Turf).
Desserts are ordinary and coffee are average too.
Parking is also difficult, $4/hr for street parking, so we need a bigger incentive to come back this place.
The starters of the set menu was really inventive and delicious. Great value for money and the pork belly was the best ever had. My salmon was overcooked and so was my partners meat but the prawns and chorizo was great for our mains. Dessert was inventive however the pana cotta was more milky and less vanilla bean than I like. The Nutella tart tasted sub par. We waited 30 mins between finishing our mains and getting dessert. We were forgotten about by the male waiter however the female waitress we had at the start of the meal and after her break (at the end of the meal) was amazing and really attentive. The Bromley decor made the wait pleasant. We loved the ambiance. Be keen try an evening meal sometime and the burgers.
Food excellent ,service excellent, we are older diners and found the music selection was not for relaxed dining much too loud, catered for one type of diner hard to have a conversation we noticed the majority of customers were of a younger age so it seemed to us the place was set up for that age group. Because of the music we would not visit again
Not my first time at the venue, but it has the potential to be my last. We were seated in the window area as requested, however no information provided that there was no table service available in this area - we worked this out ourselves. Great value $1 nibbles during happy hour, awful Frose - they need to improve if wanting to serve the 'it' drink of summer... Main menu order placed x 5 items... we had a simple request that one of the two burgers ordered not have mustard or ketchup, but sadly they both turned up without the condiments - that's not the worst part of our experience. One of the 5 meals (quinoa salad) never arrived with the other meals. We approached what appeared to be the supervisor who said the meal was at the bar and she'd collect it... After the 5-8min wait we then asked the same individual for the meal who said it was never part of the order & curtly advised it would be rushed through the kitchen when possible. After an awkward 15-20mins wait for a cold salad (!) we again asked for the meal at which time the following response was received and laced with super attitude "Well it wasn't on the order, so I don't know if you didn't order it or it wasn't heard!" I calmly let the rep of this establishment know I did order it and it wasn't the only mistake with our main meals, with the response "Not my issue!" In the end the main meal was taken off the bill, no apology provided and 5 local professionals left with a poor experience and a terrible service story to share within their organisation - deterring future spend at this venue
There are other venues that have better airconditioning, far superior service and deliver the same food choice & quality
We found the venue quite fascinating with it's eclectic decor. However there was no sign of aircon which would suggest a very hot and humid atmosphere during hot weather. Also had to wait 20 minutes after being seated before our order was taken. The food when it did appear was worth the wait.
We were unlucky where we were seated straight infront of the entrance at a table that seemed to be the drop and break glasses area and then to top it off a waitress knocked over the full jug of water all over our sweets making most inedible ,of course mopped it up but we were not given replacements. We were a group of 4 and drinks were slow coming as was the food ,very disappointed overall as it was my birthday family dinner ,so guess what our daughter lives in Fitzroy but not sure if ever she will go back, expensive night and a disaster.By the way the bucks night boys were plastered and nearly sitting ontop of us ????? Not ideal.
It would be nice for the venue to call and apologise for the bad evening we had.
