Fishing With Dynamite
What Insiders Are Saying
We don't use the term "destination restaurant" lightly. But the seafood at Manhattan Beach's Fishing With Dynamite more than fits the bill.
Excellent service. Recommend the oyster sampler and soft shell crab po' boy. The salads looked great but wasn't sufficiently hungry to try one. FWD describe
S itself as a "tiny" restaurant. This is not an exaggeration. Tables are about a newspaper width apart and lip reading skills are required to carry on a conversation with your dining partner across the appropriately tiny table. Still, the seafood is superb and the waitstaff efficient and friendly. R
Highly recommend as long as one is not seeking a restaurant in which to have an intimate discussion.
From the first oyster to the last bite of key lime pie, the food and service at FWD never disappoints!
Everything was spectacular. Everyone was so kind and gracious and the food-especially the seafood-is outstanding! We had such a fun time!
Service amazing, mouth watering food. Only downside is noise level and a bit crowded because it’s a tiny space. But worth it for the oysters and awesome wine selection!!
Except the music very loud, everything was amazing
As always, super fresh and beautifully prepared fish and seafood. Welcome warm service. My favorite place for fish in LA.
I had a fantastic time at FWD and I wish we could come back more often. The Peruvian Scallops and the Hamachi were amazing!! Watch your head getting into the booth. We saw three people hit their heads on the lights.
Food and service was excellent
Wife’s birthday was a success
Selection on menu was very limited. Seating is crammed, tables very small. Don’t mind paying a little extra but it has to be worth it, and for us it wasn’t.
Amazing food and service!
This is one if my favorite restaurants. I took my mother here for a belated Mother’s Day dinner. We came early, mostly because were excited to dine there. That being said, I could not help but feel a bit overlooked, that is until our bill started to increase. I am in this industry and I know how to read judgment. I still tipped 25%, but that’s actually much less than I usually tip. I’m sad that some of my favorite food is served in an establishment that seats a mother and daughter in a corner and is made to feel a little less than. Perhaps take a look at you’re selves, your staff, and honestly ask if you treat everyone the way you would like to be treated.
It is delicious every time! But very pricey! The best scallops and oysters!
Perfect in every way imaginable. Fantastic food, excellent, thoughtful service, wonderful location, fun decor, helpful staff. Would go back and back if we lived there.
I forgot to mention that you need to bring back Valet service for Mother’s Day. It was difficult to find parking and my mom is in her 80’s. Thank you!
My son took me to Fishing With Dynamite for a pre Mother's Day celebration. We had an awesome server named Mauri who guided us with scrumptious choices. The food was indescribably delicious and the presentation was so creative. Best Mother's Day celebration complete with an awesome key lime pie!
Great seafood restaurant. Small space but open and cheery. We went for an early mother’s day and loved their oysters. Chowder was very tasty and we enjoyed the crab Benedict. Carrots were yummy and so were the mussels.
Great experience as usual. The food and cocktails are amazing! We’ll back again soon
I am never disappointed here. The raw bar/cold seafood platters are my favorite. Make sure to add some scallops to your platter. It’s a small restaurant, so plan ahead. So glad we had reservations, because the wait for 2 (at lunch) was an hour at 1:30.
The food was outstanding, but I couldn’t hear my date. Music was too loud and tables so close together we couldn’t really talk. Too bad. Food is great. Just too loud for me.
Taking the New guy to one of my favorite places in MB, and it was my Birthday.
Did not disappoint, one of my fav. seafood places. Clean selected food, great service
Great food but sooooo loud
love, love this place...always a must when we visit our daughter in the L.A. area...
food amazing, so fresh, so delicious. Staff and service always the best.
Don't miss this spot!
FWD is one of my favorite lunch spots in the city. The hamachi app, the fried chicken sandwich, the salmon tartare are all favorites. I had the key lime pie again and it was so good and so beautiful.
Note that the tables are very close together, so not the place for a private conversation.
Very highly recommended.
For a lunch that cost us $150 (for three people: oysters-main-1 drink), I would expect more. The food was fine, but unremarkable, including the oysters. We sampled four different kinds of oysters and none really stood out. Our mains were the fish and chips (tasted good but not much you can do wrong here), mussels (broth could have been more flavorful and mussel meat wasn't remarkable). octopus (a bit chewy). Not sure why this place is hyped. It was fine for lunch, but the value for money is definitely disproportionate. All in all, a bit disappointed and underwhelmed.
High quality food and tastes, best shellfish.
desert also great!
Excellent as always. Impeccably prepared seafood with innovative dishes that work.
Great experience. But like so many restaurants the sound is way too loud. It makes the shrimp climb out of their shells
We went for lunch to celebrate a birthday. Everyone from the hostess to the bus boys to the waiters are all friendly and welcoming. They anticipate your needs. We had the hamachi, Crabcake, shrimp as appetizers. We enjoyed all of them and they did whet our appetite. The food is very tasty and well-made. For dessert we had the Keylime pie which is a must have.
Both food and service was good although parking always sucks in Hermosa but I would definitely come back..
This wonderful restaurant is where you have lunch or dinner when you are several thousand miles from home and wish you could return at will..so, if you are as fortunate as we are, go as often as you can!
Best restaurant in LA!!!!! Food is beyind amazing, service is outstanding and ambiance is exactly what you would imagine for an ideal date night. My favorite place in LA.
Service was great - food even better - and The Bloody Mary was a life changer - Don't change a thing!
Good food but on the pricey side and small portions. Would like to see more meal options vs. a menu loaded with appetizers. Our server was delightful. They definitely need more space.
The food is always great! On this occasion we had to wait about 20 minutes for our reserved table. The hostess didn’t really care that our table wasn’t ready, but the manager was so gracious and nice. She gave us some scallops on the house while we waited which was awesome because the scallops there are soooo good! Either way I’m always very happy when I got there, it is super loud, but it’s a tiny restaurant.
Perfect dining experience!
This place never disappoints. Been coming for years and it’s always amazingly delicious. Staff is so welcoming and helpful. The service is as good or better than some more fine dinning or even Michelin rated places I’ve been to. It’s just a great place to have a great night for any occasion. Thank you Fishing With Dynamite!!!!
From the same family as MB Post but more fish centric a true destination restaurant. Worth the 3000+ journey from Hawaii. Impeccably creative fish and crustaceans abound on the menu. We are east coast oyster lovers and NO PROBLEM. Awesome shuckers.
One of my favorite places in Manhattan Beach. I’ve Been coming here for oysters and seafood since it opened!
Love the food and ambiance...
However was a bit disappointed with service this time around. I ordered a couple Micheladas at $12.50 a glass which is pretty pricey for plisnor beer and tomato juice mix in a small beer glass half full of ice. After 2 orders I asked our waitress if I can order another without ice since I’m not big on a lot of ice in my drinks and it dilutes the beer making it flat and the response I got from her was
“sure we can do no ice but you will get less beer and more tomato juice “ what kinda thing is that to say ? Really after spending $300 on lunch more tomato juice less beer because I wanted no ice ?
