The Spiegeltent is the SummerScape festival's oasis, a place to enjoy seasonal, locally inspired food and drink before and after performances. The lovely outdoor garden provides the perfect spot to relax in the company of friends and festival artists long after the curtain comes down.

For guests who are not attending Spiegeltent performances, please note that after 6:45pm tables inside the tent may not remain private due to cabaret seating.

Great atmosphere, mediocre food. I know it's a "pop-up," but the food doesn't have to be bland. And if it must be bland, might the prices be a bit more reasonable?

I would recommend it because it is so convenient to eat there before or after a performance. But I didn't think the food was as interesting or as tasty as I remembered it from recent years. The service was excellent and I didn't feel rushed, which was nice since I was having lunch with people I don't see often and it gave us time to catch up.

It is the only place to get a meal before attending a Bard Summerscape peeformance. So they have a captive audience unless you want to picnic. The menu is limited. The dishes are mediocre and small. The prices are high. I have eaten here several years and the food does not improve, but the service is superfast probably because most things are pre-made. I recommend picnicking.

They refused to honor our CONFIRMED reservation. We drove hundreds of miles to bring our granddaughter for the experience of the Spiegeltent. When we arrived they said since ewe did not have tickets to the 7:00 p.m. evening performance they would not seat us in the tent. We knew there was a performance scheduled and when I tried for tickets they told me that I would have no trouble eating before the performance. Even after I produced the Open table confirmatioin they would not seat us. Very disappointing. The setting was beautiful BUT we never got a chance to enjoy it.

Would recommend if they honored reservations.

Quite a rarefied setting where food, ambience and service are tempered by something magical in the air. Thanks so much for presenting this unique experience. We anticipate future outings and reminisce fondly about past ones.

You can't beat the Spiegeltent for a unique, almost magical dining location, add to that the tasty food offerings, and it makes for a lovely dinner experience!

The Spiegeltent is a fun place for a show. The tent itself is worth seeing, full of mirrors and crystal chandeliers. Several different types of shows to suit your taste. The food is convenient before a show, but not fine dining. The menu is limited and somewhat odd. We both had a spaetzle with sausage and veggies. The portion was fine, and it was good, but nothing more. Furthermore, it was the only choice that interested either of us. The flourless chocolate cake was ok, but I have had so much better.

Everything was wonderful, except for the classical music playing in the background. It was loud and annoying, not something to eat dinner to.

Grand place to be before a concert at Bard college, but the hamburger sandwich was a bit stingy, no sides or salad, just chips, and my pita with baba ganoush flatbread was served cold and was not what I would call a flatbread. It was OK but. such a great venue should aim higher.

I wish that on some of their choices, like their hamburger, which don't come with greens, they would at least put a little green garnish of some kind. They have salads, but then you end up with too much too eat.
Also, the music is sometimes too loud for conversation.
Otherwise, very tasty and convenient for the summer concerts at Bard.

We went for lunch prior to a performance. Overall, we found the food to be lackluster. There were three medium shrimp on a salad that cost almost twenty dollars. Save your money. Good wine list though.

Bad, inattentive service, broken air conditioning.
Food, when it does arrive is luke warm.
Had to search for shrimps in the shrimp salad.
Keep the tent what it is, a circus.

Speigletent is a unique experience. If you’re attending a show at Bard, either at the Tent or at the theater, it’s a great place for dinner. The food is good and often includes some creative items. The wait staff is made up of students and not always spot-on but always friendly.

We sometimes eat at Spiegeltent before a show because it's convenient. Great drinks, the salads and shareboards are creative and tasty. But the sandwiches are mediocre at best (tasteless white bread, small amount of filling) and the entrees are overpriced for what you get.

Ordered an asparagus salad, fresh greens, tasty but only three spears of asparagus and paid extra for four puny shrimps. Friend had a tomato and mozzarella salad, mostly bread. Service was good and on other occasions I have enjoyed their sandwiches, good wine selection, antipasto generous, was shared by five of us.

I ordered Thai shrimp mango salad. It arrived doused with dressing and no visible shrimp. I sent it back. Instead I got their regular salad and added shrimp. For $20 I got three shrimp and unappealing frisee as greens. Not much else. My friend got a panini which was not really a panini. No panini bread in sight. It was more of a grilled cheese sandwich. Food is poor and overpriced, but they get away with it because it is the only place to eat before a show during the Bard Summerscape Festival.

We were very pleased that the restaurant was available for an 11AM lunch before the pre-opera talk at Fisher Center at Bard. Our waitress was friendly, didn't pretend to know something when she didn't but was helpful about finding out, and accommodated our request for separate checks without a complaint.
Selection of food choices was nicely adequate without being overwhelming.

Spiegeltent is a beautiful place. A cabaret tent designed in 1920, it is put up every summer on the grounds of Bard College. The space has a magical ambience, featuring crystal chandeliers, mirrors and stained glass windows. As for the food, it is pretty good, especially considering that the place is a summer performance venue. Offerings include good salads, burgers, chicken dishes, vegan entrees, etc. Drinks include specialty cocktails, nice wine and microbrews. The service is very good, the staff friendly and reliable. Most people who eat there are trying to get to a concert or other performance on time, so the servers usually help to keep diners on track. Highly recommended.

Food and service outstanding. The only negative is seating older folks in their 70’s in the less than optimal booth seating. My husband’s back could not hold up for the duration of the meal, and he needed to get up and walk around.

This is a perfect spot prior to attending a show at Fisher Center. Pre show it was not busy at all, though I did make a reservation. The ambiance inside the tent is upbeat and invites you to enjoy yourself. The food was good - portions a bit small. There was an interesting assortment and we ate everything; maybe a notch below what I'd expect at a nice local restaurant - but not crowded, not too hip and the waitress was attentive in the right way. We liked that they announced when our show time was approaching, and we only had to walk over to the theater. We will certainly return when attending something at Summerscape.

One of the worst dinning experiences! We had reserved dinner and were asked if we were done prior to our main course being served. They did not offer water, second drinks, or desert. They sent my meal out not fully cooked... I have never wrote a bad review, but we were terrible upset by the experience!!!

Came for a quick dinner before a 7:30 curtain of Bernstien's Peter Pan at Bard. Service was prompt and attentive, I'm guessing by Bard students, but in any event, young and friendly waitstaff. Our food came out fast, and was fresh and tasty, and we made our curtain in plenty of time. The restaurant is housed in a wonderful building that must at one time have been a carousel, with beautiful wood, mirrors, and stained glass. Would certainly go there again when going to any performances at Bard.

The music was ridicilously loud, like a disco. We could hardly have a conversation.. Such a shame, because the location is cool. Tiny wine glasses, half filled - $ 10 to $ 12.- a glass is way overpriced.

The service was good and the food was served quickly. However, the salad which was supposed to come dressed came undressed--just plain greens and some vegetables, and the $7 extra for grilled shrimp only gave me 3 shrimp. The flatbread was delicious, and ample for sharing. We were surprised when halfway through our meal another couple was seated at our table with us even though most of the room was empty. We didn't want to be rude and we didn't mind being friendly but we would have liked to be forewarned that this was a Spiegeltent practice.

Unbelievably a server tried to chase us out of our seat before we had finished our meal or paid our bill and tried to hate shame us by bringing over two very embarrassed young men who had been offered our table. The waiter served us dessert before our entree had arrived. Clueless service. And rude to boot!

It's the only choice available before events at the adjacent theater. This was my third or 4th experience. Always the same: very short menu of routine choices, slapdash service, not outrageously expensive but not really a good value, either. But convenient, when you have tickets at the theater. A weakness they cannot seem to solve is that they cannot seem to get your bill to the table in comfortable time to make the curtain and the wait staff don't seem to care about that, even though there would be no customers if they didn't have theater tickets and weren't stuck there. Oh, and every year I hope they will have done something about the primitive outhouse restrooms.

Spiegeltent is always beautiful and fun. The young people serving the food are polite and friendly and efficicent. The venue, a beautiful 1930s' tent with chandeliers and stained-glass windows, with wood wainscoting, is really romantic and good for a pre-concert bite or just plain ole' dinner. The food is good, most of the meats and seafood are pre-prozen, with greenery served fresh from the Bard farm. The pricess are reasoable. Highly recommended! Then, after the concert, come back for the great DJ'd disco at 10 or so. A great place for summer.
