Bookings are now open for tables of 1 guest up to 20 guests! We hold a number of tables for walk in guests, so if our online bookings are full, please come in and we'll get you seated as quickly as possible.

At Fancy Hank's we serve American-style, slow cooked BBQ, using the finest quality free range meats, cooked using our custom-built, 2 tonne smoker. Brisket, ribs and pulled-pork sit alongside the traditional sides as well as a number of unique dishes. We use traditional Southern cooking techniques and combine these with local produce to put our uniquely Australian spin on this regional American cuisine.

Probably the best smoked meat in Melbourne. Brisket is out of this world. Ribs were fantastic also. Ive been a fan for many years since they were up at Vic Market. The CBD one is far more up market, but food delicious!

Fancy Hanks is American BBQ done right! I've been there a few times and it's always consistently good. Plenty of meat as you'd expect, but for me it's always the brisket that's the winner. This time I had a brisket sandwich at lunchtime and it was deeeeelicious! Plus a cheaper option if you're on a budget.

Had the 'feed me' menu. $55 a head for a serve of brisket and pulled pork and a sausage with a few sides is a bit steep. Food was tasty! but expensive...

Yummy food and super service. We only had a 2 for booking but was able time. Seemed to be a number of on street parking as well but alot was limited to 2 hours.

After being turned away from a nearby restaurant, my partner and i found ourselves in Fancy Hanks for an impromptu Sunday night dinner. The food and ambience were all fine, we ordered a selection of meat and sides that came out quickly. We finished our food and waited for 15 minutes, no one came and cleared our plates (mind we were one of 4 parties in the entire restaurant so it's not like they were busy). Deciding it was time to leave we got up and went over to the bar to pay, upon receiving the bill we discovered that the beef short rib (singular) we ordered was 58 dollars. It was listed at market price (shame on me for not asking when ordering) and we weren't informed that apparently the market the restaurant buys its beef from charges $300 a kilo (it was 200g of meat that came out to us). We were offered nothing more than a weak apology for being charged 60 dollars for a main (For reference, cumulus charges 69 dollars for their lamb shoulder which comfortably feeds 4 people). This was also compounded by the 10% surcharge on Sunday. We will definitely not be going back again and have told everyone we know that this is a restaurant to avoid.

Would have been nice if were told at the time of booking or even before arrival the normal menu was not an option. I planned to take my partner there to try their tasting plate so it was a little annoying l.

I went to Fancy Hank's with my wife and daughter. We had a great time with nice views of the street. The service was prompt and the food was excellent. The meat was very soft and well cooked.

Freezing cold seating area near windows. Service slow but friendly. Food underwhelming. We were told that the meat dishes came as meat only so we ordered a side of pickles. When meals arrived we had doubled up unnecessarily as the meat came with the pickles we ordered and paid extra for. The brisket sauce was so smokey it was inedible.

My friend from Perth requested a flame grilled experience and J found Fancy Hanks on line. It was an excellent choice - great ribs/chicken wings and salads. Highly recommended. Great service staff also.

The meat and salad were nice, buttermilk biscuits are a must. Menu overall was difficult to understand and not explained to us at all which made it confusing. Some mains come with sides, others you need to choose from the small plates options for sides, however the menu is set up in a way that made it seem like the small plates were entrees so I still don't understand it. We only found out which did and didn't have sides when I went to order one and the waitress told me what it was with (not separated on the menu at all) and I had to ask about all of them separately because it still wasn't explained. Nice meal overall and left happy but not on our list to go back to.

The meats we received were pre cooked and re heated.
And the meats were not hot enough.
The food was poor.
Could do much better at home.
A complete waste of money.
Expect much better from a restaurant
Would never recommend to anyone.
I gauge this place as 1 up from McDonalds.
Only good thing was the waitress. Manny.

There probably were not enough staff for the number of guests. They were run off their feet and the wait for service, drinks, table clearing and food was too long. That was not a reflection of the competency of the staff who were all very good but were run off their feet.

I am personnaly a chef in Belgium so I apologise for my English. We where passing by in Melbourne and had a evening meal in your restaurant. As there where no more beef ribs the waiter proposed us porc ribs and we asked him to give us the quantity which you normally give for 2 persons. The quality of the meat was not exceptional and the fries where not the standard we have in Belgium, you are certainly aware that it where the Belgians who invented the French fries. But our biggest surprise was the bill! For the 800 grams porc ribs you gave us a bill of 80 AUD, that is the price of wagyu beef! In the shop you can by porc ribs at 13AUD for a kilo! At the age of 67 years old it is the first time that I discovered such a huge difference between the quality of the food and the price! If you are a vegetarian, order ahead as they ran out of the only veggie main option by 7:30!

Aircon barely works. Was a hot day but only low 30’s so really unacceptable to be so hot in a restaurant. Made the dinner nearly unbearable.

Great place with a relaxed casual vibe but also very good for a corporate lunch. Delicious food which is very reasonably priced - the corn bread is a must try. Would definitely recommend and will be back

This was my second time here, there was six of us for a friend's birthday. We all opted for the 'feed me' type menu for $50 p/person. By the end of the meal we were all full and didn't get dessert. The food was all quite good, not amazing but definitely filling feel-good food. The service was amazing, all the staff was super friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend Fancy Hanks.

Unusual night to try a new place (New Years Eve) so we had a set menu and wayyyy more food than we could eat and a couple of things we wouldn’t order if it wasn’t a set menu. The entree was a giant sausage with caramelised onion (and strangely 4 Jatz crackers) followed by a devilled egg and then deep fried cauliflower. We loved the cauliflower but meh on the sausage and egg. Then out came a platter of two hunks of brisket, a pile of pulled pork and some smoked sausage, all of which were delicious. Sides were cornbread with jalapeño butter (yum), huge bowl of fries (thumbs up), milk rolls (too full to try), baked beans (don’t like beans so didn’t try) and coleslaw (average). The meat came with two sauces which were really good too. We were way too full for dessert. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. $178 for the two of us which was a little steep for just two drinks but as I said it was a set menu with 3 courses so difficult to review but hey, what the hell - I’m doing it. Would I go back? Probably to have a peek at their regular menu and order exactly what we like. Was it super special compared to all the other American style places going around? Not really but we love that sort of food and it’s kind of all the same everywhere you go. So it’s not better, not worse. Just same-same.

Very Good Food , Great Staff & Nice Location.
Would love to see more menu deal options for individuals who would like to try a bit of everything in one thing tray. The current similar deal was available only if the entire table ordered the same .
Overall Great Experience.

Really enjoyable evening out. Delicious food and it is difficult to choose but we went for the Devilled Eggs and a couple of Jalapeno Poppers to start. Both delicious but do feel the poppers are a little on the expensive side. Then had Beef Brisket, Lamb Ribs, Pork Shoulder, Corn Bread, Mac N Cheese and Fries with the Romaine Salad. All were delicious! We finished off with the Lemon Meringue. Could not fault the food and, apart from the Poppers, it is all good value for what you are getting, we practically rolled out! If I had to comment on cost it would be that a few more wines to select from at the lower end would be great as the wines we like were all in the mid range, which took the price up a bit. Will definitely be back though.
