Food was nice although we found the 14 hour cooked brisket VERY salty and were therefore a little disappointed as we couldn't wait to try it. Also found the deserts to be lacking
Bit overpriced and not so great menu - booked well in advance and was given a very ordinary table - disappointing overall.
Fantastic service from the outset. The food was delicious we enjoyed the brisket, special (trout), sausage, mac 'n cheese and cauliflower. Great beer, great atmosphere and good value. Would highly recommend.
$14 dollars for an Asahi "pint" that measures in at approx 400ml.
There were regular pint glasses in the rack, enquired why that glass wasn't being used to be informed that all Asahi must be served in the Asahi glass.
200ml profit per serve- nice touch.
Had the beefmaster for 3 people, paid for 4 (fair enough, thats what it said on the menu) but waited approx 40 minutes between 1st and 2nd serve- way too long.
Sausage was drastically undercooked too.
Brisket was dry.
Chicken was overcooked and burnt.
On the upside. the cornbread was great as was the pulled pork.
We last visited when you were across from the market, and had been looking forward to the return.
Unfortunately, mass production seems to have made you drop the ball somewhat.
No doubt you are swimming in the cash you are making, which is great for business, but it won't help with your return clientel ratio.
Fantastic food, attentive staff. Will certainly be back
Couldn't get into Meat Maiden this was our second choice but just as nice
Amazing food and vibe! I took my two international friends and my Aunty and uncle who are 60+ and all loved it. Highly recommend.
Since the move to Bourke St, the place has lost its vibe. The menu changes are disappointing. You used to be able to get a chopping board full of meats for 1 person and now it's a 4 person minimum.
Upon being seated we were told "this table is booked for 730 so you need to be out by then"
Waiter was not really able to articulate menu items, before the menu had pictures and was self explanatory. Now you're also forced to ask the cost of the meats, why? Because there's no pricing on the menu for meats.
To sum it up, the place now feels like its trying to be an upmarket restaurant instead of the great vibrant and popular atmosphere it used to be.
Service was poor but food was really good.
I took three work friends to lunch on Friday, we had a look at the lunch menu and decided to go with the $38pp lunch special ($152) , given the price we expected a lot of food.
When the food arrived we assumed what was served was for two people but it was for all four, we asked the waiter who apologised and said that’s for four.
For $152 we received a small bowl of chips which are $13 roughly on their own, a side of coleslaw and potatoe salad both $12 and one piece of corn bread, for four people. That leaves roughly $120 worth of meat.
For $120 worth of meat, I expect a bit, yet we received roughly 200g of brisket and 400g of pulled pork. All four of us were fuming, and will be letting our friends know how grossly overpriced the restaurant is.
Food was hit and miss - the pumpkin pudding and Citrus Sorbet were phenomenal. Can't rave about them enough... burnt ends were good too. By no means the best I've ever had, but decent. Short rib was unfortunately incredibly fatty, and the sides we ordered - Mac n Cheese, Potato Salad and Fries were nothing special.
The homemade lemonade was great though!!! Service was fantastic!!! Would go back for the dessert for sure :)
The was amazing and great value. The cocktails were yummy too. You should check it out. Food made to share.
Meat wasn’[t necessarily hot, more cool to to the touch immediately after hitting the table. Amount of meat vs price are much better elsewhere. 4 person minimum for fixed menu is very restricting and makes it very much more expensive. That being said, the actual meat etc was very tasty.
I took my CEO and my clients to Fancy Hanks as a spur of the moment decision. Everyone loved the food, the service was great and they were really accommodating when another 4 people from our team randomly showed up. It was a great night!
Superb open light filled venue with great service and delicious bbq food. Sausage, chicken wings and baby pork ribs were the standout and everything else was great. Upstairs to the rooftop to finish off a great lunch!!
The food was delicious. We had the set menu with a large group and it was perfect. The corn bread was absolutely to die for (I want that recipe). We will definitely go again, loved it.
Enjoyed the fun feel and lovely waitress. But the cost is very high and probably better ok n a large group so you can get a bigger variety. Ribbs we're lovely but ready was not as good as expected.
Service was great. Our meal came quickly and the brisket was amazing.
Food was delicious, a tad on the pricey side, we were there early in the day and the noise level wasn’t too bad. By the time we left it was deafening.
Not quite value for money with the set menu. But otherwise the food was great.
We weren't addressed by our waiter at any point. My brisket sandwich had a spam jelly like oil all over the bottom of it, the chips were plain and our drinks arrived 5 minutes after our food. That wouldn't generally be an issue but the food only took 10 minutes to eat. Also, $26 for what I got is just bad value. Reading this review makes me think I was generous in giving them 2/5... But the brisket was not bad.
Wow fantastic meal and great service. Ribs were amazing.
Great food excelent staff and all a good price. Easy to locate with public transport
Overall great experience. Food was yummy and service was really good. 10/10
Not enjoyable at all. Average service, food and all round was very poor
Great place, great food, great atmosphere. Would definitely come back when in Melbourne
Very disappointed, overpriced and the food quality was poor and it unfortunately made my father sick later on that night.
Food is great and the service is excellent. Would highly recommend it!
Fantastic, friendly service for a big table. Lots of communication regarding allergies and really diligent kitchen. By far an amazing place for a birthday dinner.
The Pork Ribs where great. The beef brisket was a big let down had 2 slicers on my plate about an inch thick and very dry lucky there was a little bbq sauce to put on top. also has pork croquets and brisket burnt ends the pork croquets where great! The burnt ends though were chewy and couldn’t tell what was beetroot and beef on the plate. Price was extremely high for quality of food.
Nothing fancy about this appalling food. We went using a voucher we’d been given by the restaurant for a previous appalling meal. We decided to go with the burger special, because what could go wrong, right? Turns out, a lot! Patty too thick and undercooked, cheese cold and not melted, so much sauce that the overly thin and soft bun was a doughy mess. They also forgot our appetisers. Once they had remembered, they rushed them out. The croquettes had hard chunks of cheese because they hadn’t been cooked long enough.
Seriously, avoid! So many good places in Melbourne to bother.
Overall it was a very good night. The food was ok - good even, but not great. Based on reviews I was expecting to be wowed by it. Instead, it was a good, expensive night out.
I'll be back! Didn't expect to love their short-ribs as much as I did. The brisket felt slightly drier than I would have liked, but worth giving it another shot. Lots of great other items on the menu to try and the service was top notch!
Great food and location and ambiance. I would however call out that a staff member had to run to Coles/supermarket down the road for ice cream for the Choc Tops as you were "out". He cam back with Choc Chip Mint, which was ok however the fact that the wait staff had to tell us the detail was not that professional.
Also it seemed that the wait staff got lazy towards the end of our meal where I twice had to stand up and walk to the counter to ask for the bill and also hand for the payment. One staff member was at the bar on her phone and when I asked who I could pay with it seemed like a chore for her.
The choc tops were given for free however so appreciate that due to the wait and lack of the item on the menu.
Probably the best low and slow cooking I have ever tasted! the service was just right and honestly think the food was cooked to perfection! Thank you.
Great food & service. Will definately recommend to others. It was great being able to have a drink upstairs while waiting for our table & being able to bring our drinks down when it was ready.
The pulled pork croquettes where cold on the inside and when we asked our waiter if that’s the way it was meant to be he said no they should be warm , then made up a story about maybe they changed the recipe and will check go find out and let us know , which we are still waiting.
The brisket was over cooked flavor was nice but shame that it was dry.
As always the food is amazing and service is really good. Will keep coming back
Can't believe how good the food was here. Not a place you'd expect to have vegan and vegetarian options but the rage was fantastic. It was good to have small dishes for sharing so that you could try lots of things. Will come back again.
For Parks and Rec fans, this would've been Ron Swanson's dream dinner venue.
