Devilled egg only half an egg...ok
Corn ribs ...dont bother dry chewy.
Brisket small seve fatty...verty tender..tepid temp...rub/crust very salty. Not pleasant.
Lamb neck excellent not much meat when you take the bone into account.
Very noisy expensive wine list looked around no one drinking wine...no wonder. Good wait staff.

Staff were friendly and very attentive from the moment we arrived. Good value for money and all of the dishes we had were brilliant. The 1/2 chicken, brisket, broccoli and corn ribs were all highlights. We'll definitely be back

Loved the service and atmosphere. Was Valentine’s Day but the food came promptly and we didn’t wait to order. They even gave us a free hot sauce to try and it was incredible. Definitely recommend the Yams and Fried Cauliflower and Brisket

We really enjoyed our dinner but were disappointed with the croquettes as to why I didn’t give it 5 stars but the meat and cornbread were delicious! We will return to try something different next time.

A great outlook and good service. Food was good however the preordered ribs were disappointing. They were quite rare and tough, won’t preorder the ribs again. But overall a pleasant evening.

We were recommended this place by friends and were excited to go. The ambience and the service were great but unfortunately the food wasn’t as good as we’d heard. We paid $90 for a rack of ribs and they were chewy and had the consistency of fake rubber. Think we maybe picked the wrong thing but as it’s supposed to be what they’re known for we were a little disappointed.

The food was really nice, we loved the corn ribs. The service was good. The only downside was the music was too loud. Will definitely be back.

Fun restaurant, great smoky flavours and great music playlist. Wait staff very pleasant but a little slow to take drinks orders during service considering it was a quieter day, loved that they were able to accomodate for food intolerances but didn’t provide much in the way of kids food (the adults loved the kids food) and we found it pretty difficult to share as the tables were crowded. Would definitely come back for the pulled pork and cocktails! Thank you.

Awesome food and atmosphere. Was a little confused w/ the menu and was hard to understand whether the food I was ordering was good for one person or 2. I asked the waiter and he said he’ll come back when we were ready to order lol...not very helpful. Overall the food came out great

Pretty average

Basic chairs and tables; no cloths or anything (looked dirty)
Freezing Cold inside with air con

Food ok; plenty of it; but all tastes the same with the hickory seasoning ....

Can’t fault the food but just didn’t float our boat with the taste.

My table of three had a great meal at Fancy Hanks. Our experience will be different to yours as we were there for a 4;30pm pre-dinner sitting. The food isnt cheap but the quality is on the plate (especially vege dishes), so there is good value. I've rated as moderate for noise levels as it is likely to be very noisy when full. We had no noise issues at such an early session. Casual but interesting period interior. I'd go back and recommend to others as a $$$ place to go.

I visited Fancy Hank’s on a Monday evening and was surprised by how busy it was, but the service was good. Margaritas were not on the cocktail list, but it was made for me without a flinch. This restaurant is American BBQ with a twist. Everything on the menu has a little flare, eg burnt ends served on goats cheese purée. I love BBQ and everything we ordered, twist and all, was fabulous. Will be back again soon.

Good is always very good here but the portion size vs $ is pretty average. The selection of beer is very good and always pairs well with the food.
Perhaps due to the glass front which provides great views of what is a busy, interesting street; the noise levels are always high; even on a quiet night, not great for a business meeting.
Love going here but there are other cheaper options in Melbourne.

Service was really slack - it felt like they forgot we were even there and we continually needed to flag someone down. The person who started serving us near the start of the evening disappeared half way though dinner. Very disappointing service.
The menu on the other hand is amazing with so many wonder choices, and quite reasonably priced too - we wanted to order everything! The brisket is tender and flavourful, as is the broccoli. The slaw is fresh and light - perfect combination with the rich sweet sticky bbq sauce. The corn ribs were finger licking good.
Unfortunately the ribs were tough - beautiful flavour, but too chewy. They needed a couple more hours to cook further in the smoker. When booking online we were prompted to “pre-order” the ribs as apparently “they are likely to sell out” - so we did , and we were really looking forward to them.
The Choc Tops were a perfect finish to the meal - they are just delicious.
We would definitely return as the food was good, but we’d just have to take a gamble on the service side of things.

Very good brisket and service was ok. But a bit strange to go to a bbq restaurant and not be able to order ribs....
Enjoyable and I will probably have another go next tine I’m in Melbourne.

The food was great although the service was very slow. We made it clear that we needed to be out by 7:15pm and after arriving at 6pm our food did not get to the table until 7:05pm. Disappointing when we were assured that they would ensure that the food was served in a timely fashion.

Great food, good looking place but it was quite loud so had to raise our voices over dinner like we were in a noisy club. Also the tables were quite tightly arranged, the people next to us also looked rather uncomfortable getting in and out. Minor changes and this restaurant would be 10/10!

If American BBQ is your thing, then Fancy Hanks is a great option in the CBD. It delivers exactly what is advertised. Great BBQ and a whole raft of southern & mid-western favourites. Go there hungry & prepare to pass out in a happy food coma afterwards.

DO NOT waste your time.
There were 6 of us out for dinner together. We had drinks in the roof top bar then came downstairs to eat in the restaurant.
There were 6 main meals in their menu. Only 2 of these meals were available to order as they had run out of meat. This was at 7pm on a Monday night. Would recommend nobody going there until they get their act together. Dined out every day while in Melbourne and unfortunately Fancy Hanks was the most memorable for all the WRONG reasons.
We were offered to order 2 plates of other rib types that were not on the menu. Which we accepted. They brought out all the dishes except the 2 plates of substitute ribs. When questioned where they were informed us that they had run out of those as well. We shook our heads and laughed.

Food was amazing. But we got there and we’re told that most of the main courses weren’t available. Then we were told that we couldn’t get the platters because the whole table didn’t want to get a platter. We were backed into a corner on what we could and could not order.

We eventually got some food, which to be fair, was really good.

The service was good as the waitress helped us with determining how much we should order for two people. She was right, we were wrong but fortunately you can box and take away what you don't eat.

The location is a bit cramped. Not a large space resulting needing to repeat what you say, talk a lot louder and be very careful when sliding out of your seat so as to not bump the table. It's not that they aren't trying to pack as many people as possible in, it is just a small area.

In terms of food: We had Brisket, Mac and Cheese, Ribs (pre ordered as required to ensure availability), Beef Croquettes and Barbecued Brocoli.

Brisket was amazing. I have drunk water that needed more chewing than the meat. It had enough structural integrity to hold onto the fork.

Mac and Cheese: It tasted a bit watery. I was expecting a thicker creamy texture but was let down.

Ribs: Mostly bone with one or two bites of meat. Again, let down but perhaps I have seen too many American BBQ shows with ribs that come on bones the size of your femur.

Beef Croquettes: Quite good for a starter.

Brocoli: Two very large pieces, basically a head of brocoli cut in half and barbecued.

Three drinks.

This was $220. Overall a 4 star. Disappointed with the Ribs and Mac and Cheese. Brisket was the star.
