Epocha has strong European roots and it shows in everything from the Old World décor to the menu items that will make you feel transported to the heart of Europe. Sit out on the terrace and enjoy a pre-dinner drink over looking the beautiful Carlton Gardens before moving into the stunning dining room to sample Chef Gerard Curto's delectable seasonal menu. Epocha offers entrées like the Kingfish crudo or the Tasmanian scallops with jerusalem artichoke and guanciale. For main course you may opt for the Snapper fillet with celeriac and king oyster mushrooms or the Strathdownie Venison with raspberries and brioche. To fully appreciate all that Epocha has to offer, come with a partner or a small group of friends and take advantage of one of the tasting menus.

Every Sunday Epocha hosts a family-style spread for lunch with roast beef, chicken, lamb or pork being at the center of the meal. The meats rotate weekly so be sure to check online to know which is on offer.

Private Dining

Epocha Restaurant and Bar is a versatile venue that can cater for both seated events and cocktail functions for up to 110 guests. We have several spaces to suit groups large and small, and our close proximity to the Carlton Gardens makes us an ideal choice for wedding receptions.

Had a wonderful Sunday Roast lunch at Epocha with friends. The restaurant was packed, and continuing to deliver the high quality and innovative food, wine selections, and service that are part of their dna (and have consistently done for the past 7 years). It’s always a pleasure to have a delicious meal in a relaxed environment delivered by hospitality professionals.

Epocha turned out to be a major disappointment. A limited menu, overpriced, poor service and a comprehensive but expensive wine list. We opted for 2 courses for $65.00. Only four options in each course. Choosing the beef , and after waiting a considerable amount of time, we were presented with a piece of chewy, grisly steak pre sliced. This was accompanied by a little sauce. The sides, which were an extra charge, arrived quite some time after the beef, and only after two requests . We were presented with two small, sliced rolls which were delicious but inadequate for four diners. Choosing lemon tart for dessert, we thought we couldn’t go wrong. A tiny tart arrived with pastry so hard it was difficult to cut through. It was accompanied by a meringue the size of a five cent coin. Twice during the evening my sparkling water was topped up with still water even though I pointed out both times it was sparkling. I wasn’t offered a fresh glass either time. We had to request our table be cleared after quite some time.

My partner and I shared our first anniversary dinner at Epocha with the 5 course Surrender and wine pairings and would happily dine here again. We were very well looked after by the attentive and cordial servers, with co-owner Angie Giannakodakis painting an interpretive picture for each course that made for a diverse culinary journey. The food was beautifully prepared and wine expertly matched, championing local Australian wines with their modern European style cuisine. Upon booking, as prompted I let the restaurant know we were celebrating our anniversary, dessert arrived with a happy anniversary message much to my partner's delight. Overall, a high-quality fine dining experience with great atmosphere at a fair price.

We have booked the restaurant for my wife’s birthday.
As we have entered into the restaurant, the waiter/sommelier has greeted us and escorted us to the seat in a courteous manner.
We have started the night with a glass of Champaign and Cava with the Oyster. The Oysters are great pairing with the drinks and we had decided to order 5 course degustation menu.
Every dish were carefully chosen by the restaurant staff and all dishes are meticulously made and surprised our taste buds with flavours and aromas that we have never encountered before. All dishes are created to be enjoyed as a whole, so every single ingredients on the dish worked each other and created something truly beautiful and satisfied and expanded our culinary experience.

The sommelier chose us a nice glass of Barbera which was a great pairing for the night’s meal.

We will definitely come back again for our special day in the future!

Saturday lunch at Epocha was one of the joys in life.
It was the perfect venue for a long-overdue catchup with a friend.
The service was perfect, attentive but not over-bearing.
The food was exquisite to taste and the perfect size for lunch.
I would highly recommend this restaurant – I know that we will be returning.

We are so glad we found this little GEM. They truly understood the complete dining experience, from the moment we entered until we left. The staff were attentive, the food so delicious and plentiful and the atmosphere relaxing. We will definitely go back.

Outstanding on every level. We are regulars here and we return because of the consistently thoughtful service, delightful food and drinks, ambience and experience. The benchmark example to others. Why can't all restaurants do the basics consistently well? Epocha is the gold standard. Go and enjoy a visit there!

Delightful decor, ambience and service. Quiet enough to enjoy conversation. It should be, but amazingly wasn't, crowded out with loyal fans. Ange was a consummately professional host. She allowed us to bring a special Barolo to the meal which she set up on an adjacent table, decanted into a carafe, and served in Barolo glasses. The Waygu rump steak was superb, the lamb only a little less so. A memorable night.

Epocha is a place I first came to some years ago. It is one of those places which costs a bit but is great for that special occasion. This occasion was my wife's birthday. I had beautify prepared raw salmon and a roast lamb dish with eggplant puree. Each dish was prepared in such a way as to look beautiful and to have incredible taste. My wife had Jerusalem artichokes and chicken.
The wine list is strange. Probably strange is the wrong word. What I mean more was that it was full of things you never generally see. My wife had an Austrian white wine and I had a Spanish red wine of a grape type and brand that I had never heard off. Both were excellent.
The staff are well drilled and every interaction with them is pleasant. They are thoughtful polite and unflinchingly cheerful.
Going here is something one does from time to time rather than every night. Yet each time you go here it is a bit special and it leaves you keen for the next special occasion to come up

My wife and I visited with our baby. We weren't sure if the restaurant would accept us since we came with our baby and Epocha is a fine dining restaurant but they were very accommodating. They had a special french menu that night with an offer for wine pairing. The food and service were outstanding. We would definitely consider going back again.

The staff were fabulous and recommended a very good wine. We did the 5 course degustation menu but the 2 entrees were cold. The pumpkin was bland, the canneloni was not pasta but wrapped in cucumber.
The fish was very nice but l did not enjoy the pork. Dessert was a chocolate and banana delice. The chocolate was very good but the banana was a terrible texture. My friends enjoyed everything but l would not recommend.
If you go make sure you have the duck fat potatoes

This is a nice room with attentive and rather formal service. However since I was here last (more than a year ago) the menu seems to have been slimmed down. We were rather disappointed with the food and felt there are plenty of other places at a similar price range doing more inventive and tastier food. We started with cured salmon - three small strips that were quite nice but with only the merest hint of dill as a garnish - it needed more. The fish (hapuka) was very nicely cooked but very under-seasoned and accompanied only by a spoonful of silverbeet and a few chickpeas with a small slick of cauliflower cream - all were undersalted and very plain. The menu said with mussels and there was a single mussel on each dish. Desserts were ok.

I've been here a few times now and it consistently impresses.
The food is outstanding. The Sunday Roast lamb just fell apart and tasted out of this world. Spuds = epic and all other dishes were top notch.
I love the fact that on a Sunday you simply turn up, sit down and the food starts to arrive. No need to study menus. You can just enjoy the time with your friends/family/loved ones.
If you love hospitality done well, then you'll love this place. The team make you feel like you're visiting friends as opposed to customers. You feel welcome, looked after and loved from start to finish.

Me and my partner visited Epocha for dinner on a Friday night and decided on a 3 course meal for each of us.

First of, the layout of the space could get a little tight when the restaurant starts to get crowded. Upon entering the restaurant, you get a sense of coziness in a dimly lit dining area. Everything was really inviting and comfortable except for a slight smell of dust in the air. I guess that's part of the classic Victorian terrace ambiance.

On to the food, straight out of the plate, you can tell that each course is well thought of and considered, from portion to presentation. We had the privilege to experience two options from each course. We were pleasantly surprised by most of the courses. If we had to rate them in order, deserts were definitely our favourite: Apple Tart & Tiramisu. Both winners and excellently presented. Next would be mains: the Pork and Wagyu Beef. Pork was amazing, beef left a little more to be desired. Appetizers were the ones that sort of missed the spot for us. Overall, we left on a high note after desert.

Drinks menu were decent, but again, presented beautifully with meticulous attention to details.

Service was top notch. With explanation by servers on each course. Friendly and very approachable.

Will be looking forward to return, and trying out the new menus.

Most restaurants that serve tough steak provide sharp knives. Epocha should visit one to see how its done if they must use cheap food cuts - the waitress seemed to agree but she didn't offer to tell the chef, probably knows there is no point. Relaxing background music encourages talk - we didn't come to compete with "energetic" music. Somewhere over the past year you seem to have lost your way. We won't be back
