Lovely lunch at the Epicurean. Food was delicious and reasonably priced for the quality.
Service was outstanding with every staff member we encountered being genuinely friendly and helpful.
The decor is outstanding and even though the main room is large, it wasn't too noisy and was kept cozy with the large fireplaces blazing.
I have never been served a lamb shank in a bowl with no mashed potatoes or vegetables in my life.
A 1cm squirt of carrot purée does not cut it! Don’t be greedy and shortsighted economically - very poor.
Seafood ravioli was not good. Very fishy ravioli taste, pasta was tough and it didn’t taste fresh.
Bread on the table was not very nice, olives weren’t warm like last time we were there either. Have you changed your bread too?
Potato mash was so cheese based, didn’t taste like potato.
Tiramisu was mostly cream and cocoa powder not a lot of filling.
Table service was average, we got our entree prior to our drinks initially.
An amazing building with buckets of character and open wood fires making it the perfect winter venue. The food is well cooked, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere delightful. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Beautiful venue, great food and excellent service
Lovely place for a celebration, we were very well looked after and the food was delicious and plenty of it!

Holiday lunch. Great venue, friendly staff and food delicious
The epicurean is a must if you’re down in red hill. The food is always outstanding.
We booked Epicurean for a family celebration based on a recommendation from a friend.
We had the most wonderful lunch.
Superb food, atmosphere and staff.
It will be our celebration go to from now on.
Delish Beef Risotto with Red Hill truffles.. all of us were happy with our meals.. attentive service
Warm & relaxed ambiance with attentive staff and great food .
Great warm inviting venue. Relaxed dining. Simple and tasty menu items.
We have always had fairly good experiences at Epicurean but this particular visit was very frustrating. They had an issue with the gas main so only had half a menu (no pastas and nothing fried). Not a huge deal for us (fam of 4 with a 3yo and 1yo) as we were happy to work around that but they only had one option for kids, which was a pizza, and when I asked for it half without cheese so my dairy intolerant son could eat it too, I was told that it was impossible as the “chef doesn’t like doing half pizzas”. Given the situation with the gas I would have thought that the chef might have made an exception particularly since there was no other dairy free option for him on the menu. The poor thing had to eat dry pizza crusts and plain bread for dinner.
It was really stressful and frankly I won’t be rushing back anytime soon. I think their popularity has made them lazy and complacent when it comes to customer service, since they no longer have to work too hard to draw in customers. There are so many great restaurants on the peninsula more deserving of my time and money, where not only is the food delicious but they also genuinely care about giving you a great experience. I’ll be heading to one of them instead.
Beautiful set up and venue. However, our meals were not served to us due to a ‘kitchen issue’. The staff did not communicate this to us and we ended up waiting over 2hours for our food before leaving without eating. We eventually demanded some answers after 2 hour wait in which staff elaborated on the issue. We experienced poor communication and service from staff
I was quite disappointed with my last visit to the Epicurean restaurant. After having a few amazing experiences there in previous years, I was confident in choosing this restaurant to celebrate my birthday, hoping it would match past experiences. Sadly, it did not. Something has changed over the last year or so, and not for the better. It is unfortunate that this is the case as it is such a beautiful venue and location.
In summary our experience on the day was impacted by:
- A set $60 menu per person (which would naturally increase expectations for high quality food.) Sadly we were disappointed both by lack of flavour and portion sizes. Most meals were either under seasoned or too small for the price. There did not seem to be any love in the food.
- The kitchen gas got switched off part way through service. Both meals my dad ordered did not arrive. He found this out 1.5 hours later and eventually was told to order a pizza, which was not what he wanted, but sufficed.
- Many meals that we did not order, kept arriving at our table. Which makes me think there was not a lack of communication or management happening on the floor.
- The fire grill next to our table was kept off for quite a while and kept spitting at us, which is very dangerous, especially since there were young children near by.
-There used to be many vegan meals when there was a different menu, which was one of the reasons I liked the restaurant so much. Unfortunately this is not the case anymore and the vegan food that is available was unimaginative and bland.
One positive note, the main waitress for our table was extremely lovely and apologetic for others down falls.
I believe that there has been a lot of cost costing in recent times, which has resulted in these changes. If you wish to maintain your regular customers, I would strongly urge you to reflect on some of these points and make some necessary changes. At this stage, I will not be returning after this past experience.
Delicious lunch. Open fire and wine…what more do you need on a cold winters day?!
Great food fantastic service. Great ambience and the open fires and heaters were very efficient.
Main course dried out under heat lamps; desert unimaginative; wine list by the glass limited; environment excellent; staff lovely but over worked.
What a great place to spend a winter's day..............spacious barn, large open fires, great food, engaging staff, celebrations happening left and right of us! We will be back to check it out in summer.
Excellent, creative food, and good service. Will definitely be back.
Enjoyed a lovely anniversary dinner with 14 family members, aged from 6 to 87 years old. Food was delicious and the service was great. Definitely would recommend this restaurant, especially with a large group.
Great food and service, good variety of dishes. Loved the experience and would recommend it.
The Epicurean is a lovely looking place and I really think it has so much potential.
I am not sure if it was due to a shortage of staff due to Covid and the hospitality industry suffering from not getting people or if there service is always bad.
We arrived on time and where seated promptly by the window with a view , this may have been an issue as it seems that where sat we had been forgotten and it took half an hour for anyone to come and take a drinks order for a start. Larger groups seemed to get all of the attention and it seemed to be that there was only 3 wait staff on the floor.
When we did get served , we ordered both starters and mains and had to then request the bread and oil that was on the menu as part of the selection.
The starters where really good , we then waited an hour before our mains came. No wait staff and nobody came to clear the plates or even asked us if we needed more drinks. We both ordered pasta which to be honest was insipid and tasteless and we could have cooked it better at home.
It was my wife's birthday and we ended up being so disappointed that she did not even eat her pasta ( and she is Malteese and loves pasta.
Even after getting up and finding head waiters we still did not get our meals quicker , whilst they said we will get it right out they then proceeded to set up for larger groups again.
A very disappointing experience
If mobile phone coverage is poor in the building tell everyone about it instead of wasting everyone’s time tryiyto get them to sign in with the Covid government app
Nice atmosphere & good food. Cocktails were amazing!
The long delay between the courses spoiled the overall experience.
We had lunch booked for my 40th birthday and when making the booking online it stated we had the table for a set time of 1.5 hours. We were on the con amici menu due to our group size but the service was quite slow and it meant that our mains hadn’t arrived after being there for nearly 2 hours. We explained to the staff that we needed to leave to get to a booking at the hot springs so we asked what our options were as they still hadn’t brought the main or dessert. We were rudely told we could take the food away but that it wouldn’t taste as intended (which wasn’t much use to us as we couldn’t really eat beef while bathing at the hot springs!) The food we had at the start was really lovely and so was the lady serving us, although they also forgot to give us the gluten free option for one of our party who is coeliac. We were really disappointed to be given a very bad apology through gritted teeth and no option other than to take the food packaged up which we no longer had time to eat. We weren’t even offered any sort of discount for the meal which cost us $75 each for 8 of us. It was a disaster and not a good experience for my birthday celebration and probably one of the worst hospitality experiences I’ve ever had. So very disappointing for everyone in our group
A great spot, attentive staff, excellent management, nice menu - great open fires !
Food was wonderful , drink service and to get a bill was slow
Wow.. what can I say... food.. cocktails and service was amazing!
First time dining and my husband and I were amazed at the entire night.
The gnocchi and wood fire pizza were delicious!
We also had awesome cocktails followed by a shared sticky date pudding.
The manager floated around and spoke to guests and was really accommodating and helped recommend dishes. Will be back for sure 👌🏽
First visit by my husband and I. Staff were really friendly and efficient. Venue was lovely with a fabulous open fire. Food and drinks were terrific. The live music was an added bonus. Definitely recommend this place.
What fantastic venue, from the ambience to the wonderful staff and the absolutely brilliant food
We had food allergies and they were catered for perfectly
This truly is must visit
Great Restaurant never disappoints food was great.
Service and food was of a very high standard. Exceptional value for money and wonderful ambience.
Food was terrible but service was reasonable, probably won’t come back in a hurry!
I would just say that the food is a little pricy considering the amount of food you receive for it.
Great tiramisu & service!
