This was my fourth time to Empellon Midtown with my husband and the entire experience from the food to the drinks to the staff was exemplary. The smoked black cod may be my favorite dish of all time and the halibut and the skirt steak were out of this world. I've said this before in various reviews but with so many restaurants in NYC -- I rarely if ever go back to the same place twice let alone four times but Empellon is worth it. Gents, the name of our table captain, has to be one of the nicest most elegant people ever and he and his wait staff team just made the experience even better. We took some good friends with us this time and they too that Empellon is a place that they need to visit again.
The food was amazing.
Too noisy for middle age clients
Food extremely below expectations
The food was extremely overpriced
I was placed «under» the stairs, which one often is when being only one person.
Considering the hype for this place I was underwhelmed. Food and drinks were good but not worth the overinflated midtown prices. The flan was decidedly not good.
Me and my wife had delicious meals at Empellon. I don't ever say this ... save room for dessert. Very creative and tasty. Prices are pretty high there.
I come to Empellon every time I am in NY. I relish the guacamole, but something was very different, in a non-positive way, with the taste and color of it this time.
The young lady who attended me was not very friendly nor attention orientated.
I love Empellon, so I will be back. Hoping that this was just an odd-off day.
Excellent service, delicious food, and the most beautiful environment combine for a very special restaurant experience. Very impressed by the incredibly friendly and helpful service, including the terrace greeters. We had such a memorable meal, and really enjoyed the attention paid to us as we celebrated a friend's birthday. The staff made us feel so welcome and appreciated. Eating our dessert outside was a fantastic end to an amazing night. Thank you!
Tasty good food but pricey. I’d want to be amazed and craving a return visit here, for the $10-$12 tacos, small $21 bowl of basic guac, and $18 drinks, but I’m not. Hostess and servers were extremely attentive. Not overly loud. If I wasn’t footing the bill, I’d return.
Spectacular food and amazing service from friendly people. We went to experience the Avocado dessert... and the rest of the menu did not disappoint. Loved it!
The food was good, but the menu was somewhat limited. It was also very noisy.
Excellent service and food! The fish tacos were amazing! Be aware it is very loud, so this isn't really a restaurant if you plan on conversing with anyone at your table!
Locale alla moda e curato nell'ambiente, cucina gradevole di buona qualità con forte impronta messicana
Great food but very expensive $18 for a small cocktail is too much
This was our third time visiting Empellón Midtown and it was just as amazing as our first two visits! The food here is outstanding and the service was excellent as well! We were treated to several complimentary dishes from the kitchen which was a very nice surprise! The tacos here are delicious and the guacamole is out of this world! One of the true highlights is the smoked cashew salsa. Just, wow!! If you’ve never been to Empellón you are missing out on one of the best dining experiences in NYC. Get there! :)
Great experience from the food, decore and service. I would recommend others to go as well.
Lunch was delicious. The staff was very attentive and helpful in selecting a delicious entree.
Great experience. We had a great time during the birthday dinner. The food was awesome. The service was very attentive and caring. Thanks for the wonderful experience.
Tasty but overpriced
Great option with the Prix Fixe. Service was fantastic and prompt. Would definitely take clients for lunch again.
Very loud. Too loud. Great service. Good food.
Excellent dining experience all around. Service, food, quality, ambience - it was my first time, and I will certainly return!
We shared the guacamole and the Wagyu beef fajitas, as well as each had one margarita. The Wagyu beef fajitas cost $22/ounce with a four ounce minimum. We shared 8 ounces. Between that and the guacamole, we were full. While very expensive, the Wagyu beef fajitas are well worth their price if you are a beef eater. My suggestion would be to undercook the beef. You can always put it back on the hot skillet to cook more. I highly recommend the beef fajitas. You will not be disappointed.
High quality dinner in a beautiful room
So delicious. 7 sauces to start, delicious tacos...Whatever you eat, don't miss the avocado dessert. it's heaven.
Delicious and interesting tacos. My favorite was the pastrami taco with sauerkraut and mustard seed salsa. The sleeper hit was the dessert. We tried both the avocado (lime flavored ice cream in the shape of an avocado) and the pineapple with bee pollen and chamomile ice cream. Great experience and I will definitely be returning!
Desserts were terrible which leaves a bad impression in your mind at the end of the meal. Lunch menu was good but not not great considering the price.
Food is excellent ! Good place for diner! However hostess make us wait 30 min to be seated with reservation and lot empty tables available on the dining floor She never mark on open table that we were there .
The location tells you all you need to know about it, overpriced and everything that comes with it. The tacos were delicious but the appetizer flavors were all over the place. There are much better options.
Delicious food, fun waitstaff, fun experience. Maybe a little more variety on the menu.
Food was good. The tacos specially the chanterelles was very flavorful.
We really enjoyed the food, however, the service was really not great which is unfortunate.
Superb and sophisticated Mexican cuisine delivered with very attentive service personel, including an amazingly knowledgeable table hostess. This is a Mexican restaurant on a par with the best French cuisine restaurants in New York. We went at 6PM on a Monday during Restaurant Week and it was packed with office workers, men in suits and women in dresses, who clearly had just left the office to have drinks. We were ushered upstairs to a table and placed our orders. Other than a noisy six person table seated next to us--which was neutralized by one of our guests moving to another place at our table--the whole ambience, service, and food were first rate and top drawer. Alas, this comes with "New York prices".
We explained dietary restrictions to our server including the fact that spicy foods can cause a reaction. She seemed knowledgeable and guided us toward foods likely to be OK. She told us that the Guacamole with Seven Salsas should be OK because we could just avoid the spicy salsas.
However, the guacamole was served to us with sliced jalapeños on top. They could easily have been omitted. Unfortunately we did not notice the thinly sliced peppers until we had already eaten some of the guacamole, and at that point it was already too late. This ruined the rest of our meal and we had to leave prematurely.
Very overpriced and small portions. The guacamole was delicious but costly
Empellon is one of my favorite restaurants in Midtown. The food is always exceptional and the service is very pleasant and efficient. Ana, who helps me with my group events, is wonderful. It is definitely a well-managed restaurant. Their avocado dessert is a work of art!
EXCELLENT service and food. A unique take on tacos. I loved my pastrami tacos and my wife loved her fish tacos. The shrimp appetizers, both of us, were great and dessert; mine, the chocolate ice cream sandwich and my wife’s custard tart were outstanding.
Good food but thought that it was overpriced
I was excited to eat at Empellon after reading some positive reviews. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food... as I found it to be flavorless. The tacos had a very strong pungent taste. The fish taco was bland as was the cabbage salad. I love chocolate, however, this chocolate dessert had some strange and unappealing flavor added to it. The spicy cucumber margarita was the only thing I enjoyed. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. I'm sorry to say that I will not be returning.
Food was great, will for sure come back.
