Just be aware that it is a pricey restaurant for entrees. The guacamole appetizer is $21.00 which I think is a lot! The tacos were very interesting besides being delicious. Wine was very good and our server was outstanding.
Overall it was a very nice experience.
corporate restaurant - not great for a friends/family type of event. food OK, but not worth the price. was not impressed...
Decent food, nothing special. The cocktails are great. Desserts are not.
Loved the presentation, ambiance and tastes. Great creative combinations on the lunch menu
Don’t get the halibut it’s not worth it but definitely try the pastrami tacos and the beef tartare queso
Empellon for dinner has always put on an exotic performance for out of town guests. But lunch was disappointing. The fish tacos were completely uninspired: in taste and presentation. I was even left hungry afterwards, not a good sign. I've seen more passionate trimmings and condiments from a food truck.
Our waitress was very good. She helped us navigate the menu so we did not order too much or too little, the food was excellent!
Great service, but terrible food. We tried 8 dishes and 5 were not worth eating. They are trying too hard to be different and it just doesn't work. The guacamole and desserts were fine.
Fabulous and delicious!
My go to midtown lunch spot!
Awesome service and vibe. Loved the pastrami tacos.
Quite loud for a lunch spot. Appetizers and sides were good. Mains were solid, not remarkable in taste/flavor. Cocktails were great.
Perfect lunch spot with great service and food. Highly recommended
Top of the line - outstanding food 😉
Food is a amazing, cocktails delicious and service outstanding.
Relaxed fine dining experience, with friendly staff and a Smokey flavored menu. Family friendly.
I’ve eaten here half a dozen times and generally really liked it. This particular experience was really bad. The service was terrible - indifferent at best. The new menu is really limited. No chicken, and the one fish entre was mushy and tasteless. The only good things remain the guacamole and the margaritas. If this place doesn’t improve and stick to its roots, I’m going to take it off my list for work and social gatherings.
Nice ambience, though despite booking well ahead , we had the worst seat and were told thats all they had- not true
Very limited choice for vegetarians. Whatever we had was well above average mexican restaurants. They need to take the Hash brown taco off the menu !!! Awwful hash brown taco , and if one has to eat that we could go to Mac Donalds
The drinks were good and the guac was amazing, but everything else was mediocre. The desserts looked very cool but tasted okay.
The food was pretty good, but even though we indicated that this was a special occasion, there was no acknowledgement of the occasion. The service was fine although a little spotty between courses.
Delicious traditional Mexican city fare with delightful twists, we hope to return
Ridiculously overpriced, poor service, food good but not great if you like bastardized Mexican food
Great lunch spot - prefix menu had a variety of options to choose from. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Food is delicious and I go here often for business lunches. This was for dinner and it is quite a hopping bar scene also apparently! The hostess was SO rude and snotty that I may not come back again. I have never been treated so rudely in a restaurant in my entire life. She acted like a bratty teenager who wasn’t getting her way. I took a picture and was going to put it on Instagram but did not. But I will say the food and cucumber margarita were fantastic.
Pretty loud. Good food but expensive. The avocado dessert was so good and is why I went here.
One of my favorite restaurants, hands down! I often host a dinner for my project team and this is definitely one of my preferred go-to spots!
First time here after reading it was recommended by the Washington Post restaurant critic, Tom Sietsema. We had reservations at 1145 and it quickly filled up with a lunch crowd. We had the three course Prix Fixe for $38 and it was just enough delicious food. First course was a Duck Tamal and a cup of Tortilla Soup, perfect for a cold rainy day. Next came the Fish Tacos and a Chicken dish you could wrap in butter lettuce leaves. Dessert was an ice cream sandwich and a Citrus Flan, both were creamy and just the right amount of sweet! Highly recommended for the creative cuisine, every bite was just perfect!
Food and drinks were good all servers were nice
Server was more interested in pushing menu items/ courses than our dining experience.
Drinks good. Food was excellent — high quality and fresh. Had a front row seat to the open kitchen. Saw some really nice dishes prepared. They seemed well organized and calm. Will be back to try more!
Appetizers were good but the rest of the food was average to bad. It is extremely noisy and getting the attention of staff was a challenge. Will not be going back.
Good food and prompt service. Nice addition to midtown and a change of pace from the usual stuff.
Very tasty, specially priced Cinco di Mayo menu and very accommodating of our party with a stroller and an elderly man. Also fun and friendly great service.
Found this upscale Mexican restaurant to spend a Cinco de Mayo lunch with friends. Food and food presentation were phenomenal. Would go back tomorrow. Host was a bit rude but our waiter Ivan made up for it! Atmosphere is very contemporary and bar is cool. Not a cozy place if that is what you are looking for, but if want amazing food in a posh place- this is it!
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE - the avocado dessert is a work of art and the staff were beyond friendly! Would definitely go back again and again!
Very loud. Food quality was good but not great. Was hoping for an excellent experience, but received an average experience.
Quality food, excellent service. I will definitely come back!
Great midtown lunch spot for a casual, and delicious business meeting.
Having gone here a few times now.......this was a walk by spot daily via my work commute, and I must say walking by in the summer shortly after they opened seemed to be the "it" spot (after a proper mental note to check them out..... I just never got around to it).
Well fast forward to brief convo with a fellow foodie and professional (ie cocktail connoisseur), this was adjusted on the list of tries......Stellar decision!!!!! From the walk-in to seating..... I was sold!!! Our server don't recall her name (young black woman) was amazing in all of her suggestions from cocktails to entrees.
This my 3rd or 4th visit..... But only my 2nd for full dinner participation.
Consistent yummy eats and continued stellar service as well.
Some eats I didn't get pics for since I have posted them before (not here though). Continued fan and will always visit.

Very good food, lovely space and great service. We particularly enjoyed the skirt steak, sea bream and guacomole appetizer.
Totally overpriced and Worst margarita, terrible guacamole and disastrous menu selection. My guest could not even drink the expresso it was so bitter. Never to return.
