Overall a fair dining experience. All items on the menu where not available so we were limited to what we could order. The food we ordered was delicious, fair service, good timing and priced fairly. Just lacked ambience as it is located in a quiet part of South Melbourne, in a serviced apartment block which services the patrons.

We booked online for a party of 6 for lunch & our booking was accepted & confirmed. We arrived & the restaurant was closed. The website still said they were open. I called & left a voice message & sent an email but still no response 2 days later. Elma have burnt us off completely & we won’t be going back. Very poor management.

This would have to be the worst dinning experience I have encountered for quite some time. Table service was so bad that I had to venture to bar, get my own tables drinks and then serve them myself! In regards to to food, very average, pizza was burnt and only received 3/4 of our initial order. Tip - do not dine here!

This is a fantastic venue. The food is amazingly delicious and the service is second to none. We will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended. The chef prepared a special menu that would suit our group of 15 for a birthday celebration. Thanks again. Angelina

Pasta dishes were interesting in flavour and appearance and moderate size serves to allow for multiple courses. Beautifully cooked and lovely flavours. Seafood pasta is delicious! Tiramisu an interesting spin on a traditional dish. An interesting addition to the Port Melbourne dining scene.

I rarely rarely write reviews, but our pasta at Elma was incredibly amazing! The Napoli spaghetti, so simple, was more tasty than pasta I’ve had at the best Italian restaurants. The veal beef Raghu just as great. Service with a smile from very friendly and accommodating staff, who know their menu with passion. 11 out of 10.

Loved the food dishes very fresh and delicious. Staff super attentive and friendly 👌 . Being Italian restaurant Biscotti was on the menu which was ordered with our coffee 😋 unfortunately they did not have any available 😭 . Will be back

Shame that the Great service, food and amazing layout was ruined by the extras on the bill that weren’t clarified on the menu and an $80 bottle of wine on the menu turned out to be $96.80 on the bill. 10% surcharge (which the waiter couldn’t explain) then a 10% GST charge both appeared on the bill out of the blue.. over 20% extras with nothing said on the menu or mentioned. No issue with the extras but would have thought these would be included in the menu item price like every other restaurant. Just comes across as dodgy which is a shame as it really was a nice venue with great service and food.

Great restraunt, great food. Good service . The only thing Dont add GST and a Service charge as an extra line item. GST should be included in the food price. Customers these days dont mind putting an extra 30% for a tip but when they see its already done they may think twice and you potentially loose a great tip. Just food for thought!

Love the place and the waiter who served is so lovely. They are just understaffed, drinks end quite early and lights are pretty bright for a dinner service. Some small tweaks. Will be back though, hopefully they figure out their staffing

I took a friend who has 3 kids so she rarely gets out so she could experience Elma and its great middle eastern food. When we arrived they gave us a menu and told us it was the "Sunday menu" which had about 4 starters and 4 mains on it. What a joke. If the menu is different on a Sunday why wouldn't that be advertised or advised to me on my booking? We left without eating and I wont be going back. This is the third really bad experience Ive had there and Ive been there around 8 times. I live in Port Melbourne and try to support the locals but I wont be supporting this local anymore.

Hi Jaye, we have looked into this further and the Sunday menu you are referring to was our Lunch menu which is available Wednesday - Sunday in our café and is relatively new. Our café is seperate to the restaurant which is open in the evening, therefore a different menu is available so we do apologise for the confusion. Regarding the missing menu items you refer to, I've been informed that most of these requested were the breakfast items which are unfortunately not available after 11.30pm.

Hi Becky, I'm very sorry that your experience with us wasn't a pleasant one. Unfortunately some of the items that you have referred to as missing were the Breakfast items that are not available after 11.30am. For prepping, stock and many other reasons, we are unable to extend all of the breakfast items over through to lunch. I understand that we were sold out of the Burrata dish from the lunch menu, which we apologise for. Once again, we are very sorry and thank you for your feedback.

Friends and family I know and trust recommended highly. Service was exceptional, some of the food was and some not to our taste. Was slightly pricey within reason, but for the price would have wanted to be wow’d by more than the presentation and a dish or two. May be a matter of personal taste or may be we were just there on an off night - it happens. In our view was good but didn’t nail it. Wouldn’t rule out giving it another try.

We arrived to find out it was barely a restaurant and More a hotel lobby eating space, then 20 min after reservation time we were seated, and then 1 hour later we were still waiting for food and hadn’t even been given a drinks menu. Asked staff to confirm the meal had no nuts as it was a set menu but they didn’t tell us what it was (we had notified the restaurant of the allergy before hand), waiter said they’d check but never came back. An hour after that they apologised for the delay and offered us free drinks (which never arrived). Another 35 min later the fire alarm went off, which we were told always happened, as no one seemed surprised. We were then told we would possibly have to evacuate outside until the fire truck comes. We left at the same time as 4 other parties which was about 5 min after half the restaurant cleared out.

Went for valentine dinner with me and my partner at 7.30 pm we got our complementary champagne and we also got our first course. we ordered 1 drink each and that came to the table around 8.20 pm. still have only been served our first course. Finally at 9.38 pm our second course and main came to the table we didn't even feel like eating at that time we where over it. THEN then fire alarm goes off. shouldn't your staff have told us what to do in a situation like that? we couldn't even stand it anymore and decided we have had enough forget about the desert. the man didn't charge us for our drinks witch was kind but unfortunately its not enough they ruined a special night for me and my partner.

We attended Elma last night for Valentine’s Day, and it was also our first wedding anniversary. I don’t think most of the guests who attended last night would go back. We were there for 2.5 hours and only received appetisers after paying $267 for the valentines set menu. Weren’t served drinks when we walked in or given the menu list (everyone else was), asked for water multiple times it never came, watched three different tables who arrived after us receive their full set menu while we sat and were ignored. The table next to us walked out because they arrived at 6:45 and still hadn’t received their food (it was just about 10pm at this point) only to find out their table number wasn’t on their “list” whatever that means. They walked out. We ended up walking out as well when the manager refused to even speak with us. We both felt ill after eating what little food we received. The venue was also filled with fruit flies that we were constantly swatting away. A horribly disappointing night. Definitely should know your limits and not overbook when you are short staffed.

Overall great food, great staff. Loved the open kitchen being able to see food preparation. Food was delivered quickly and delicious. Perfect place to eat pre Timberyard performances / events which is two minutes down the road.
