In 1983, after the success of La Calle Doce, Oscar and Laura Sanchez wanted to open another restaurant but they didn’t want to duplicate their previous success nor did they want to open just another Tex-Mex restaurant. Oscar wanted something that wasn’t found in Dallas, something that reminded him of home. Since both Oscar and Laura are from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon in Northern Mexico, they decided to open a restaurant that specialized in Comida Norteño (northern food) and Tex-Mex featuring dishes such as cabrito, mollejas, and asado de puerco. Today El Ranchito is known for it’s authentic Mexican food, freshly made tortillas and festive atmosphere where mariachis play daily. These elements – the food, the music and the friendly staff – have helped El Ranchito achieve it’s ultimate goal of creating an atmosphere where the customer feels as if they are back home in Monterrey.

Service was slow to get started and slow again to get the check at the end, but everything in between was good. The food was pretty good. I personally like Pappasito’s, Uncle Julio’s and Abuelos better (in that order), but this food was good, not far behind Abuelos. The margaritas were great, but a bit overpriced. I had a couple of Patron top shelf margaritas that were great, but were $13. I felt this was a couple of dollars too high compared to similar restaurants.

Our first time here. They seated us in front of the fireplace on Christmas Eve. We had a group of 8 family members and the service was excellent. We all loved our food. Salsa was very spicy, chips were fresh, margaritas were very good! Can’t wait to go back.

As soon as you walk in you feel welcomed at El Rancito! This is our 2nd visit and I’m guessing it’s the manager that greets guests when they come in. Nice touch!
They don’t look at table requests and have a table in the middle of traffic they like to try to get rid of. Lol. Just ask for another table and they happily comply. The table arrangement or lay out if the whole restaurant is strange because there are too many tables in the middle taking away from a cozy feeling you want in a restaurant. Plus ....TOO many TVs!!! This is not a sports bar. You can’t hear the TVs....it’s just distracting movement taking away from great food! You can’t get away from them in any room!
The servers need to become trained on the happy hour prices! They cheerfully find out when asked. The friendliness and helpfulness of seevers is top notch! They know the menu and our server, David, was the perfect balance in serving but not being over bearing.
Everything is in house and delicious! The corn appetizer unique and great flavors ! The charro beans delicious! Even the rice differed from the typical, having excellent flavor.
Ignore the TV if you can and enjoy great food and service.

We went to celebrate a birthday and chose this restaurant because we heard they had a mariachi band. Unfortunately, the mariachi band never played one song. They were there but just sitting around the restaurant playing on their phones so we kept thinking that they were going to go on. After being there an hour, I went and asked when the mariachi band was going to start playing and was informed that they only play on request and it cost $20 per song. We decided to still pay the $20 and went to request a song and they did not know it. We asked for another song and they did not know it. We decided to just leave. We were at the restaurant a total of 2 hours and never heard one song. Very disappointed. Will not go back nor would I recommend this restaurant. Food and Service was just average.

We had a guest coming from Canada. We enjoy the food and the Mariachi, but only got to listen to them for a bit. They need to come around to other sections more often.

Great first time experience after a long wait for Ranchito to finally open. Definitely upscale from the usual Tex-Mex, strolling mariachis...will be back very soon to try other menu offerings.
