El Pulpo & Tapas Bar
El Pulpo features upscale dining in an elegant atmosphere. We promise our customers a truly enjoyable dining experience in a Mediterranean setting.
Went on a Friday night at 6pm, a little early. Not many folks in dining room, but bar was full. Service was slow, but relaxing. Attentive server, who paced the tapas and meals well. Food was good, paella was nice. Would not call it first class, but a nice place to go out in Middletown.
Always great. Seems to me it just keeps getting better and better. Will be back very soon. Can’t wait.
Great food great service great time!
We try to go to el Pulpo once a week because the food is excellent, very authentic (my wife lived in Spain for a while}, well presented, and a joy to experience. While we have never met the chef, we can tell by the artistry in the presentation that his or her skills are not limited to just cooking. Bertin is the best server we know. His knowledge of both the food and the wine is better than anything we have experienced elsewhere.
1) The paella was sopping wet and lacked any semblance of caramelization and crusting on the bottom, a poor performance from a Spanish/tapas restaurant.
2) For a place called El Pulpo, there should be more than two octopus dishes on the menu.
Always great Spanish inspired food and great paella @
Excellent tapas appetizers. Incredible variety and flavors. Paella is delicious. Sea bass was the best we’ve ever had with the purple potatoes and veggies . All incredible. Service is excellent. Waiter brought a special dessert for my bday and a small after dinner drink for all of us. Consistently good.
In our opinion it’s the best food in the area. We’ve been to El Pulpo at least 25 times and feel that the food is of the highest standard. If you are lucky enough to have Bertin as your server you will, no doubt, have a wonderful and memorable dining experience. We can’t wait to return.
Delicious fun evening out post-bridesmaid dress shopping at Lastrina Girls
music sound system was terrible ... made everything sound like banging on tin .... thank goodness it was not that loud but it was annoying .... food was just OK ... service was a little uneven - they were totally booked and very busy.
Fantastic service, food was excellent.
Very nice, central location in rear of Main Street Market in downtown Middletown. Easy parking in Melilli parking lot. Delicious, cooked from scratch, interesting menu.
What a great restaurant to celebrate with family. The food was absolutely delicious and served hot! This restaurant accommodated my family of ten and every one of us were pleased!! Every plate was served hot and together at the same time. Great atmosphere and such friendly staff!
One of my favorite restaurants. Have never had a bad meal or happy hour dish. It’s all wonderful.
I had a lovely dinner at El Pulpo. The food was excellent, as was the service. We ate many delicious tapas, tried various interesting cocktails and ended with great desserts.
Wonderful authentic Spanish cuisine! I especially enjoyed the sardine and potato’s appetizer prepared with a sherry vinegar on recommendation from our waiter Bertin, he never disappoints. I also highly recommend the Brussels sprout salad served on a fried risotto cake and the salmon entree served with a lobster sauce. Everything is always fresh, prepared perfectly and served in an artistic fashion that is very rare in most restaurants. I truly appreciate the fine dining, service, and ambiance of El Pulpo! Don’t be afraid to try the Pulpo salad or special appetizer (not listed on the menu but the chef will prepare if you ask!) I never expected I would like octopus but I do!
Great food, nice music, outdoor or indoor seating... I would highly recommend.
We were well-tended to by the staff and all the tapas were delicious! And we picked a very good reasonably priced bottle of wine from a very nice list. The panna cotta had a hint of rosemary that was lovely. I brought a group of friends and family even though this was my first time at the Middletown restaurant, since I'd had a really nice meal once at the Plainville location recently. Both are gems! Will be back soon.
Great flavors. The squash salad and shrimp tapas were very yummy. There was a large party also having dinner and it seems the restaurant was understaffed for the crowd since our meal took almost 2 hours. We enjoyed the food and our waitress was polite, just everything was slow. Food was good enough that we would try it again, but not if we’re on a tight schedule.
The appetizers were great, grilled calamari and octopus salads tender and lots of flavor. Entrees good- meat a tad overcooked, paella overcooked mussels and clams, salty too. But, I would go back for the apps.
El Pulpo is one of our favorite Middletown restaurants. The food and the service is always wonderful!
Great food and service
The goat cheese, sauce appetizer is amazing. Only wish they gave more of the pesto bread to go along with it. It's a must order dish! Yum
Enjoyed the meal. Went for wedding anniversary.
A great Tapas place, excellent, creative seasonal sangria. Service and atmosphere are both great. The outside patio is nice, you can see the CT River in the distance past the parking area. This has become a favorite of mine in Middletown, CT. This trip had a great variety of tapas, previously tried a couple different paella versions - all of which were superb.
Went with a large party with some kids, and some stragglers. Food was cooked perfectly, and drinks were mixed nicely.
Lovely place, great service and wonderful dinner. Will return!!
Service was pathetic. It’s not a big place, but we waited and waited for 15 minutes after we arrived and never did find the host so finally just seated ourselves. Then we waited another several minutes for a waiter to appear. It then took more than an hour for our food to appear. Needless to say, we will not go back.
El Pulpo's is still one of our "Go To" favorites. We have truly never had a bad, or average meal there, and the service continues to make us feel special and important. We can't wait to try each dish, and the drinks are outstanding. However, and this is a small however; they had a party in the dinning room, and it got pretty loud (not really for us as we were against the far wall), I would recommend that they get a few room dividers to kill some noise. They could easily be put in between the pillars. That said, we don't care how noisy it was, the deal, deal and service ranks as high as any we have had. Hats for to El Puplo, can't wait to see what's in store at our next meal!
I brought my boyfriend and parents from out of town! And they couldn’t stop raving about this restaurant. It’s a hidden gem and to die for! If you’re a healthy eater and like seafood, I highly suggest it!
Wonderful meal. Service was excellent. Presentations were beautiful. Very nice atmosphere.
The Octopus with beef carpaccio (carpaccia De Pulpo)was fantastic.
The traditional paella was delicious and bountiful.
Jalapeño Mojito was very tasty
The exterior seems very unassuming, but inside very charming. The service was very attentive, but never intrusive. Highly recommend.
We were a party of six and everyone was very satisfied. We were able to converse nicely.
One of my favorite restaurants. Varied menu, with something for everyone. I have never had a bad meal here. Dining room is more formal and quiet, and you can also eat in the bar area at high tops. Great mussels, salads and fish. Very fresh with unique offerings.
Except for the parking problem which we did not know about prior to lunch everything was great.
I love that I can make a meal out of one of the appetizer offerings. At most restaurants I find that I am bringing half (or more!) of my meal home, because the servings are so large.
Nice place. The food was delicious and the service fast and professiona. We’ll be next next visit.
Waitstaff was pleasant, attentive and knew their menu. Food was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant when dining out in Middletown.
Not impressed. Parents gave us a Groupon to go here. Some authentic flavors (our family is from Spain and Central America) but very overpriced. Also, the place is a bit shabby and for the prices they charge, it should be much much nicer. Will not return.
First time dining here. Food was real good. Service was good. Wish the place was not so bright inside. Very loud too
Wonderful place. Food is delicious. Personnel are very friendly and attentive.
