Dress up a bit and enjoy Fine dining to be sure! Timothy our waiter enhanced our experience with his vast knowledge of the variety of meats and history of the restaurant. The quality of the food was also superd as was the thoughtful presentations.
I consider this to be an expensive restaurant so my expectations were very high. Had our server been great it would have been a completely different, great experience. He was not that friendly, and seemed annoyed with us for not ordering alcohol and asking for minor modifications to our meals. Food was very good. I might go again sometime, but definitely would be hoping for better service.
Food and service were excellent. Dan and Brock were entertaining.
We enjoyed a great evening, and service was outstanding
Compared to all the other high end steak houses Eddie Merlot's was ok. For the price point I expected to be wowed, but I was underwhelmed. The service was good and staff were attentive, but the food was just typical steakhouse offerings that we felt we could have gotten at any mid range steakhouse.
Hands down ‘GREAT’ place close to home and to be honest why drive in to DC when you have a 5 Star restaurant in your back yard! And I doubt you would find a better restaurant in DC that includes Ruth Chris or Fleming’s to name a few..
Wonderful evening. Food was excellent. Our server, Mark, was a bit surly in the beginning, but came around after a while. Restaurant is definitely for special occasions unless you have a great expense account or deep pockets. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will recommend it to others.
The service we received from both Cassie and the manager was exceptional!!!
Birthday. Waiter was mia tending to a larger party
The service was terrible and the food was overly priced. It took 45 minutes to even get bread after we complained. I will never go back.
We’re moving away and wanted to have a nice dinner with friends, food was great but their was a VERY loud party that no one managed. When I mentioned it to the manager he said he couldn’t do anything it the holiday season and people are drinking and I have lots of loud tables- I said NO this table was very disrespectful of everyone in the room and others were making eyes about how rude they were behaving!
Why would a restaurant put two large tables of 16 in a very small room with 4 other tables of six? Poor planning. Either give them a private room or put a group of large tables in the room. There was a family seated next to us and the dad was just as unhappy and disgusted as we were.
As a manage it’s your job to be checking what’s going on in every room, if he was doing his job he would have noticed how LOUD these people were- hey I’m all for having fun but how about RESPECT for other!
We were underwhelmed. Unfortunately the service was not what we would have hoped for. It took forever to get our drinks and A number of trips by the wait staff. Several in our party ordered beers and were presented with the beer bottles. The waiter then quickly walked. We had to flag someone down to ask for glasses for the beers and were told they didn't have glasses. We persisted and said a water glass would be okay. Some asked for lemons and some for limes in their cocktails - all received limes so another trip to get the lemons. The lack of attention carried on through our whole evening. On a positive note, the food was quite good. This group of friends dines out together quite often but we probably won't pick Eddie Merlots next time. Very disappointed.
Mediocre... quality of food relative to high-end prices was disappointing.
Nice place but the ending service was a disaster. Food was not hot at all. It took an hour to get checks and they were still wrong. Asst. Manager came out much later and apologized, but it should have been earlier. Very, very disappointing.
Excellent food, fine attention to detail, excellent service. Creme brûlée for birthdays!
Everything about our dining experience tonight was awesome. Meg our waitress was excellent.
I think its just not my kind of place. Too expensive and TOO loud.
Beautiful restaurant, but incredibly slow service. Would go to DC Prime over this streak restaurant.
We had 6:30 reservations and arrived a few minutes early and were seated in the back room near the window. We noticed a strong draft of cold air coming from window and my wife noticed the fireplace and we were told it was not operational and won’t be serviced for weeks??? – in a somewhat chilly room. Disappointing! Meg welcomed us as first-time diners at Eddie’s and she shared her menu favorites and decanted our 2012 Groth reserve cab. The barbequed shrimp came out hot and very tasty. For dinner we ordered the Chateaubriand for two at tableside.
The helper had an issue rolling the table in front of our table and when Meg arrived commented that they parked it backwards and started to rearrange the placements. She then carved and plated the meat, scalloped Potatoes and brussels sprouts. Major disappointment was that the meat was lukewarm at best and the sprouts very under cooked, however, the meat sauces were delicious. First major tip – put the meat in a warmer and serve on warm plates. (as a Sales executive I travel weekly and host clients at the TOP steak houses in the US – nothing worse than paying ~$100 for cold meat!)
We topped off the meal with another recommendation from Meg – the World’s Best carrot cake (a major contender) and nice hot coffee. If we do ever return it would be for desert and coffee.
Also, I’d recommend having management come by the table to greet and welcome the diner. As a weekly Fleming, Capital Grill and Palm patron it’s a great touch and good practice. Cheers!
Ordered the NY Steak but got a Ribeye instead. And the steak wasn’t that hot when it came out.
This was our second trip to this restaurant and my husband and I went for his birthday celebration. While the overall experience was good , our waitress seemed to want to upsell everything. I ordered a Caesar salad which, according to the menu, was supposed to come with my dinner as one of the Chefs favorites but the waitress insisted it did not and charge us for it on the bill which we paid because by the time we left it was so crowded we did not feel like waiting. In addition I would highly recommend never ordering the mushrooms as a side for $18. There was barely enough for two of us to share and there was nothing special about these mushrooms which at any other restaurant would cost you well under $10
Mac and Molly created a very nice evening for my family as we celebrated and thanked our Veterans for their service. Our two Veterans were treated to the Chef’s faves at no charge. We enjoyed our other favorites of French onion soup, crab and avocado salad, Eddie’s potatoes and for dessert the cognac brownie. The wine selection of Chimney Rock Elevage was a perfect pairing to our meals.
Thank You Eddies Merlot!
The manager who was on duty that evening never had the chance to visit our table so we could thank him. He stopped by the table near us and had what seemed to be a long conversation about why they offer the chef faves for customers who don’t want to pay for an expensive cut of steak. In my opinion, I would like to dine with my family at a nice restaurant with a smaller plate option that fits into my diet restrictions without sounding picky. Thanks for all the options on your menu. Even with our party of four and two Comp Vet’s meals we still dropped $400. Well worth a hello.
Delicious food with outstanding service
Freezing table and lackluster service. Small portions and overpriced for the experience and food.
Steaks and Chilean Bass were all great tasting. Waldorf salad and Caesar Saadi we’re very fresh and tasty. Truffle fries, were great. Brussels sprouts were under cooked. Desserts were all great tasting. Cake serving size is huge. Very disappointed in service once the restaurant started to fill.
Awesome food and wine, great service. Will definitely be back!
Had a lovely dinner at Eddies! Shared their wedge salad and had mixed grill and salmon entrees. All were wonderful. Service was friendly and efficient.
This was our second time dining at Eddie Merlot’s. While the service was great both times we felt the quality of the food was better the first time than this most recent visit.
The staff were receptive and very easy to make a reservation with. It was an anniversary dinner and it was a little off in that the waiter knew it but did not throw a candle on the cake as asked and the table was less than desirable and I had asked specifically for a good table and when arrived we were guided straight to a table by the kitchen door. Not acceptable at all.
For this place to be steakhouse, something is wrong if you can't get the temperature right.
Both steaks were cooked wrong. The steak were taken back and fixed, but everything else on the table was cold once they brought them back. No manager, no apologizes and paid the full bill.
When your paying these prices, you expect the service and food quality to be at the same level and its not.
Nice looking place with great service, but the food leaves much to be desired. Lettuce had brown edges, shrimp were tasteless. The steaks were cooked properly but not as flavorful or tender as you would expect at a steak restaurant of this level. And it is expensive. Best part of the meal was their coffee, it was great.
We went to Eddie's for our anniversary and had a great time. Our visit occurred on a weeknight so almost no crowds which contributed to a very comfortable noise level. Food was great although my filet was slightly undercooked. We use Eddie's as special occasion celebration restaurant and have always been pleased. Look forward to celebrating other occasions
Good all around
Excellent food and top notch staff! Rob took care of us and provided fantastic recommendations.
Great food and nice ambiance. Service is a little slow. Salads were a bit pricy for the portion they serve. The food is very good but still a bit pricy.
The kitchen has major issues. The New chef needs to get up to speed quickly as this isn’t the sort of place where mistakes are acceptable. Lots of kitchen mistakes.
Service is excellent!
First time at Eddie Merlot's and wasn't disappointed by any means. Tremendous overall experience and I'll certainly return.
