Nationally acclaimed and award winning E'cco Bistro was founded in Brisbane in 1995 by one of Australia's most celebrated chefs, Philip Johnson. For the past 25 years, Philip and his team at his landmark bistro have taken a sure yet simple approach by serving unpretentious food to the delight of all diners alike, this has cemented e'cco's reputation in the culinary landscape.
Having relocated from it's original location in Brisbane CBD to the fast growing inner-city residential mecca, Newstead, E'cco has been positioned to prosper for the next 25 years and beyond.
As Philip says “We do as little as possible with the best ingredients available".
Service was abysmal. We sat at the table for 20 minutes before drink order was taken. Entree was nice, main course okay. Noise level high. Due to bad service, we were more rushed to finish within the time allotted for us. Probably won’t go back. I expect better service and less noise for a fine dining experience.
Great from start to finish, service, food, venue.
Just ask for the vegetarian menu if you require, the standard menu has few options, the vegetarian food was great!
Overall it was a great dining experience. The only minor let down was our dessert sat on the pass for longer than necessary when staff were distracted. Mid week and about 30% full so it certainly wasn't busy.
The menu was innovative combining local ingredients such as kangaroo and Moreton Bay bugs with Asian imfluences. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. Our guests described it as the best food they had eaten in the Brisbane area for 20 years.
I have now been to this restaurant on many occasions. It is a lovely touch when the owner remembers me and escorts us to our table. Saturday night was a busy night and it was a little loud but still a very comfortable conversation was had. They left us at our table as long as they could and then asked if we wouldn't mind relocating to the bar, which we did gladly. I would recommend this venue for anyone looking for great food and a very friendly atmosphere.
Beautiful cuisine and perfect wine list. Always a great dining experience.
Food was excellent .. had the salmon for a starter.. very delicate ... beef short rib melted in your mouth.. the fish was also very good... greens were very crunchy and good recommendation by our waiter
Overall a very nice dinner .. we saw it on the website as one of the top 10 restaurants in Brisbane.. it did not disappoint
Great food always reliable wonderful gluten free food on normal menu. Green pea arancini balls, Phillip’s signature bug risotto and chocolate nemesis is to die for. Can’t wait to go back.
The scallops were absolutely amazing!! Fabulous as always.
I love returning to Ecco because Ive always love the food and service however I've found the last 2 visits since the move to Haven the wait staff have been quite inattentive which has detracted from the experience.
The entree Gnocci was delicious once we added some salt and pepper and the Bug risotto was full of flavour and the short rib was melt in your mouth.
Ecco is definitely a must visit and will be back just a little disappointed on the service the last few visits.
Certainly not as memorable as it used to be. Good option for taking the parents out for dinner etc but as a date venue pretty lack lustre. We did have lovely cocktails at the bar to be fair. The service was quite good once we were seated but we waited twenty minutes for the table we had pre booked.
Great service. Tasty meals. A bit noisey to have a conversation.
Took my best friend for dinner to celebrate her birthday. Fabulous food, fantastic service, great wine selection, the whole experience was just excellent.
Our first visit for lunch will not be our last. Very attentive and friendly staff. Food presentation and flavor was 1st class, befitting a 1 or 2 hat restaurant, but more affordable!
All the staff were lovely and it’s such a great restaurant.
Food was great, Service was good, wine list great, sprit choices a little limited. 3 courses for $79 was exceptional. Nice limited menu with enough choices to ensure a well rounded menu done well.
Having been to Ecco before and had a wonderful time, I was really excited to go back. It didn't quite live up to my expectations this time, however I hesitate to put this down to anything other than having a bad night at the office (Ecco not me).
The service itself was sporadic but verging on what felt almost inattentive initially and we were 4 people seated at a large round table made for more so conversation in an open, relatively boisterous restaurant was very difficult.
But being far from all doom and gloom, the mocktails were excellent (dry January paying off) and the food was 80% very good (all 4 starters and 3 of the mains), 20% disappointing (sirloin was overcooked IMO - requested rare, was medium rare verging on medium, dessert was........uninspiring) but the overall general feel from half of our party was underwhelming. (The other two would have a ball sitting in a brown paper bag so i mostly discount their annoying positivity..............maybe i need to be more like them)
Overall it was what you would expect from this type of restaurant, professional, yet courteous and good food.
Absolutely love Ecco... food is fabulous....5 Star x
Brilliant as usual! A great effort by the team again. Thanks
NYE dinner. Opted for 6 course set menu. Overall we felt as a whole that the food was OK without being great. We are use to high standards at Ecco so perhaps it was just an off night or the menu didn’t live up to the hype. Not sure.
Service from our male waiter was very good.
My group of 6 enjoyed a delicious lunch in a warm inviting restaurant. The service was excellent as all of our individual needs were met. I would recommend for others to eat at E’cco Bistro.
Fantastic foods and service. The gnocchi is sublime
The degustation menu was first class.
Great selection of top shelf wines
Attentive and friendly staff
The food was beautiful. I found the menu a little bit difficult because I like prawns and there were none on the menu, but in the end what I ordered was beyond expectations. The Parmesan parcels burst in your mouth. Thank you
Quality food and excellent service , good value specials and a great place for lunch
We dined on a Thursday night and we brought along a couple of special bottles of our own vintage wine. The staff treated it with great care. Overall the staff were friendly and attentive. We chose the A La Carte menu and we were all pleased with our choices. The food was beautifully cooked, flavoursome and well portioned. We enjoyed the relaxed vibe and would definitely return in the near future.
the moreton bay bug risotto couldn't be faulted. A very good wine list. Friendly and efficient service.
Everything you'd expect from any restaurant of Philip Johnson's.
The food was amazing. The staff were professional, friendly and efficient. The ambiance very good. I highly recommend eCCo as a great night out.
Great fresh food cooked beautifully. Service was attentive . Overall a lovely meal
While the meal wasn't bad, it wasn't to expectations of the price though.
However, what was a challenge was the meal service times. We were seated at 5:55pm, ordered by 6:05, the entree came around 30 minutes later, but then we waited for an hour for mains to arrive, then a further 25 minutes for one dessert.
It's hard to recommend Ecco after that first experience with them.
First visit to the new location. Menu interesting and varied. Service from reception to the exit was very good, informative, but not intrusive. Helpful when asked, good knowledge of menu and wines. Food was beautifully presented, very fresh ingredients and well cooked. We shared oysters, lamb shoulder and a dessert. Portion sizes were more than adequate which is a nice change. Pricing a little on the high side, but worth the extra. We took our own wine with $20 corkage and this was much appreciated. Thursday night was moderate noise, but weekends might be a problem for our vintage. Mine host was great fun. A very enjoyable evening.
A consistently good dining experience all round at E’cco. Sat at the counter this time, which was comfortable and had the added bonus of watching the highly organised team in the kitchen. Great food and service. I’ll be back there soon.
Lovely quality, great selection and delicious as usual.
Our lunch was fantastic and everyone loved their food! Great cocktails too :)
We had an amazing dinner at Ecco Bistro! The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. We had a large group of 10 for dinner and they went above and beyond to ensure we had a really enjoyable evening. I wouldn’t hesitate to go there again or to recommend it to my friends!
The food is outstanding but let down by some service issues.
Couldn’t fault a thing
The food was absolutely spectacular! Steak was cooked to perfection! The only thing that let the experience down was the service, when you charge high end prices you should supply the service to go with it. No atmosphere though ?!
I would still go back as the food is great
Didn’t get off to a good start as when we arrived we were kept waiting for almost 10 mins as they wrongly assumed we were with another party. That almost put a dampener on the night BUT faith was restored by Robert in the al fresco bar who was the epitome of customer service.
Once we were seated our food was sublime. The entree serving size seemed a little light on but our risotto portion for main course was plentiful and lots of Morton bay bug too which was a pleasant surprise. We shared 3 desserts between 4 of us and that was just right.
The one negative for me was the price of the wine. $60 was the cheapest bottle which seemed excessive. I would love to have tried their broad range but the price put me off.
Service was attentive. Staff were knowledgeable about the menu and it was an enjoyable evening.
We are going to return to try the lunch menu!
