Having relocated from it's original location in Brisbane CBD to the fast growing inner-city residential mecca, Newstead, e'cco has been positioned to prosper for the next 23 years and beyond.
As Philip says “We do as little as possible with the best ingredients available.
We enjoyed our dining experience at Ecco however we were a little disappointed with the service a few times i.e we ordered a 2nd serve of bread and it took too long to arrive (even after we had asked two wait staff to check on the bread. Staff weren't diligent in topping up our water - we waited too long for water on arrival. The steak dishes were lacking an accompanying sauce/jus. Straw potatoes didn't appeal.
Very pleased with our table location given we were celebrating 2 birthdays and we wouldn't have enjoyed the overcrowded main dining area. Exciting menu - we will happily revisit.
A great experience. While preferred the ambience of the previous location closer to Brisbane, this new location is far more accessible. Serving was rather slow and perhaps reflects the relatively small kithcn the chefs work in. That said, well priced and great quality food. Spare ribs melted in the mouth.
Exceptional food and service. Definitely recommend.
We absolutely loved it! The food was delicious and the service superb!
Its an interesting venue, not really classic sophistication more urban chic. Nice menu with variery and multiple price points. Great wine selection, good service. Just a very high price point on the a la carte. Hopefully good for the tradional executive lunch break. Not for romance.
Another delicious meal. I was with a party of 5 and we were all so excited about the Bug risotto being back on the menu we ALL had it. Generous amount of superb bug and delicate favour of fennel - perfectallly balanced
Kingfish entree superb
I had the goats check pastie which was lovely, Pastry so light and lamb and goats cheese delicious
Hard to beat the kingfish though
Loved the food
Great to see Phillip Johnson back in the kitchen- definitely gave the food a needed lift. Would recommend.
Excellent way to celebrate Valentine's Day. Fast becoming our favourite restaurant.
I have been a long time customer and a big fan of Ecco, however right now I think MOR is an apt description of where this restaurant sits in the market.
It needs to go back to its roots, which was about inventiveness & excellence.
We had the chefs menu and it was fabulous. Generous serves and each course was great ... Maybe the gnocchi was a winner only by a smidge
Sooooo disappointed. How did this restaurant get all those stars????? The experience was frustrating, irritating and so no what I expected.
Lovely night and first time in new location. Very interesting to have a birds eye view of the kitchen. Food was excellent as always.
Menu options were fantastic. Entrees were appropriately portioned and delivered in good time. Main course options were really appealing, with most of the party opting for the steak options. Perfectly cooked and importantly, served with an ideal wait time from the completion of the entree. This really showed an attention to detail that many venues lack when dining. Wine was great, and the ambience was ideal for what was a business dinner.
We had a wonderful lunch and I always love it!
We had an excellent lunch special at a very reasonable price. The food was delicious and the butter to die for. Nice atmosphere when outside was baking.
Outstanding dining experience. Fantastic service from Lachie.
We had well positioned table in a quiet corner. We went for single glass wines - a wide selection was available. Wine quality was high standard. We also had some great share plates, including a very well cooked, good tasting porterhouse steak.
All in all, a very good fine dining experience
Impressive menu, stunning food, great wine list, excellent service, a very satisfying dining experience.
Overall I had a lovely night. Food was fabulous and so was the service.
Great food except for Snapper main course.Crispy skin was soggy and fish fillet dry and over cooked which is disappointing considering it’s not a difficult dish
This is the first time we have dined at Ecco Bistro since the move from their city location. While the restaurant space is pleasant enough, there is not a shed of remnants from the previous location with the more casual 'vibe' fully embraced. Went for lunch and had the 2 course January special for $39 which is very good value - the food as good as I remember it. Service was Ok but only had two wait staff on which given the number of patrons was not enough. Will we go back, quite possibly, but we believe Ecco has lost the magic allure it used to have in its old location and now it mixes with a general population of restaurants catering to the masses.
Great not to be rushed in and out, to be able to settle in and chat while enjoying wonderful food.
We visited for a friends birthday lunch. The food and service was outstanding. Highly recommend!
Really good food. Gert is a very talented Chef. The lunch special is great value.
Disappointing experience - atmosphere between staff was tense, food was presented more like home cooking - kingfish crudo was flavourless and the presentation of the beef short rib was poor with a clumsy corn relish that had sat too long on the pass on top :(
Sides were slap dash in presentation - overall not keen to return.
We were celebrating our 53rd anniversary with a voucher given to us.we enjoyed the luncheon menu.We had the squid the flavours were superb although a tad chewy. The snapper and spuds were delicious. All in all a lovely experience .Thank you.
Poor service, meal sizes small, we went for the chef tasting plate with matching wines for each meal.
Every glass was under poured, and we had to ask to fill our glasses up to at least get to the line on the wine glass ....Also 2 of the wines where unavailable that where listed on the chef tasting menu. I feel the drinks are as big apart as the food and under performing on this is a BIG FAT ZERO.
Meals were too small, I have never left a chef tasting menu or degustation with out rolling out of the restaurant after or with a slight Buzz on from the matching wine.
We all left sober and wanting more. For a hatted restaurant I didn't experience the elegance, skill or generosity of what you expect from a restaurant with such a great name. I hope with the move to the new premises they haven't forgotten to bring with them the old Ecco that made them who they are or should I say were.
I am finding it hard right now to have a reason to book again.
Very good food! Perfekt restaurang for
New Years Ewe with friends!
We have been to Ecco in their old premises about 10 years ago and it was superb. Coming back was a bit of a let down. Lots of kids under 5 in the restaurant that really changes the atmosphere. The food was excellent though our first course was missing an ingredient in my husband's dish, cooked marinated grapes. We mentioned it to me the waitress and she said she would either remake or bring the grapes. Then she turned up with a bowl of cold grapes straight from the fridge. I would have expected better than that. There was a huge wait between 2 of our courses, and although the courses were with matched wines these would turn up up to 5 minutes after the meal. Also the wait staff for a high end restaurant were dressed in shorts and sneakers, low rise jeans, casual shirt. Again not what was expected. They also had set sitting by times which on this occasion meant everyone out by around 9pm, there was not later session. This does nothing for the atmosphere. I'm not sure if the new Ecco is meant to be fine dining anymore, but for us it was quite a disappointment.
Food was incredible. Service was a little slow however the restaurant was very busy.
Always have great food and service at E’cco bistro. Second visit to the new restaurant and still enjoy the whole experience. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
Quail was over salted, as was the sweet corn purée it sat on. Flank steak was chewy and related dish too salty. Pork and duck dishes were good. Barramundi dish - whilst fish well cooked, it was over complicated with too much going on. Service was slow - I noticed two bar ladies chatting away and not paying much attention to diners. Phillip Johnson has such a great and deserved reputation but his cooks and staff really let him down this night
It was very good....
wine was great
Waitress was excellent
however Desserts were poor
Just a bit tasteless
After all that good food, the finale was a disappointment
I’m sorry but Ecco didn’t live up to expectations. Something appeared very off with the staffing (Ie lack of) and service was not attentive. After waiting more than 15 min to receive a menu it was disappointing so see that friends of the owners were served immediately. The food was ok but not brilliant. With so many new restaurant choices in Brisbane that have amazing food, atmosphere and exceptional service it will be interesting to see if Ecco can lift its game.
It is okay. Underwhelmed especially because this restaurant is considered best of the best in Brisbane. I guess, that was the reason-- in Brisbane clause isn't yet New York, Shanghai, Singapore or even Melbourne/Sydney standards.
Waited 1/2 hour to be seated. Online booking did not make it clear that we had not booked a table (even though it said table booking) but had a seat at a bar looking at the chef. As it was a special occasion we were very disappointed. They later moved us to a table after we had entres.
Hi, I fortunately we were seated at the bar looking at a pole despite adding a note to the booking that we wanted a table.
This definitely played a part in making this a negative dining experience.
Fabulous restaurant, great food, never misses a beat, staff are very attentive, beautiful decor
Another beautiful meal, with several stunning flavours among our dishes. Their attention to taste and customer experience is what makes e'cco an experience to enjoy.
