Eau De Vie Melbourne Ratings and Reviews
The ambience of this bar was amazing. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and helped recommend us the perfect drinks as there is so many to choose from :) I have been there about three times so far and every single visit was a real treat.
Cocktails are very fun, interesting and delicious, you can feel the Bartenders creativity in them. We will be back.
I've been twice in quick succession, having gone the first time for a get-together for a friend's birthday, then swiftly booked a table for two to take a different friend for her birthday a few days later. The pre-set booking time was an hour an a half, which was just right for the two of us to enjoy dinner, drinks and dessert before heading to the ballet at the Regent Theatre. Service was prompt and the wait staff checked in on us regularly. We loved the food (I especially recommend the eggplant fries and the croquettes!) We tried the dessert tasting plate and enjoyed it, though next time I'll probably go for the chocolate cake. My friend ordered a gorgeous-looking cocktail called 'Honey Butter Old Fashioned' and reported it was sensational. I guess the cocktails are a little pricey but I'd say worth it for their unique presentation and the ambience of the venue, and the food is quite affordable considering how fancy the decor looks. If I were to improve anything, I'd say it would be nice to have side plates rather than serviettes to eat our 'bar food', as we made a bit of a mess with the bread crumbs. Overall we were really happy with everything, and my friend said she'd be taking other people there in future.
When we showed up at the time of our reservation, they immediately showed us to a couch around a low shared table at the bar. I thought this was odd, but they never asked about my reservation or showed any indication that there might be other options. It too 20 minutes to get our drink order in, and since the drinks on the Menu are quite elaborate, another 15 for them to be served. The food was interesting and yummy, but eating them from a couch at a low table was inconvenient.
Speakeasy-style bar tucked away in a Melbourne side street, Eau de Vie is very hard to find but worth the effort. To describe the food as “bar snacks” couldn’t possibly describe the staggering high quality of the food. Great ambience, helpful staff with just the right amount of attentiveness and great blues/soul/rock and roll music played through the speakers. Not cheap, but definitely worth it!
Whilst our cocktails were delicious, I was enticed to order one in a conch shell which had about 30ml of liquid in it total. I'm not convinced it wasn't an empty one accidentally handed back to me actually! For the price the servings are small but the white wine by the glass selection is ridiculously limited and very uninspiring - so only go if you want cocktails!
This was the highlight of our trip to Melbourne. It was our last night and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this venue to my friends. Amazing, impressive, top friendly service. Several dishes were ordered and enjoyed, my favourite...........eggplant fries. DELICIOUS and AFFORDABLE!
This is the 2nd time I have been. The food is lovely and the interior is beautiful. The cocktails are a very theatrical experience! Last time we went we sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed our experience with the barman discussing the drinks with us and making great recommendations.
Unfortunately last night we were seated at a table and the waitress who was serving us seemed to have an issue with me. I felt she was quite dismissive and rude. It put a damper on my experience.
Brilliant venue, feels like you're stepping back in time - no signage outside so makes it feel like we're living in the prohibition era! 😊
Cocktails are genius and delicious. The theatre that goes along with many of them is brilliant! Food was delicious too! Couldn't fault the staff at all. Overall 15/10! I can't wait to go back!
Second visit to this place as its a great setting; really intimate and cosy vibe. Only negative I have to say is, upon arrival my party for two were advised we were sitting at the bar for our food & drinks... along with another 6 people. Apparently when you book, majority of people want to sit at the bar to watch the cocktails prepared. If you're not one of those, you need to request a booth. I do applause the staff for being accommodating as they were able to shift us to a booth before the next guests arrived.
One of Melbourne hidden treasure bar that almost no one can find it as there was no signage whatsoever except to those who have been in this bar before (like me that been here three time already), unless someone recommended and directed it to you. The big wooden door is the secret pass to your excellent cocktails taste buds not to mentioned the wonderful selection of music, great ambiance and atmosphere of diverse crowd. I would suggest booking is a must as the line can be very long for some for those who would just a walk in but so worth the wait. This bar has an amazing range of great cocktails. Yes, we will be back for more great taste!
