I have been to this restaurant a few times in the past and have been the first to rave about it! It was my favourite place to take people from out of state. The wontons were amazing and I loved the fusion vibe. I was told the chef has changed recently and unfortunately the food did not wow me the way that it used to.
Really enjoyed going here since it has been recommended to me on several occasions. Outside seating was great & the establishment was all very funky; with a variety of bars & food offerings with a slight difference. Knowledgeable cheery staff; good food & well made cocktails. Will be back soon.
As always the food was supurb. Can't go past the goats cheese wontons, we have them every time. Didn't enjoy the octopus as much as I hoped I would, but still good. Rest of our choices amazing. Staff fabulous, they are ready to serve. Second wedding anniversary spent being fed at Don Tapa and as often as we can in between. Highly recommend.
Food was excellent, but we should have paid better attention to the reviews saying price per person! Maybe for a more special occasion when we were prepared to splurge on dinner, but that wasn't our intent when we went out. Nonetheless, great food, quiet atmosphere for early on a Saturday evening and a very cool venue in the Mantle.
Food was delicious and the dessert was awesome, the donuts and lime ice-cream my favourite.
The waitresses were excellent and quick with their service, though it was a quiet night for them. My only notable suggestion would be that the cocktail list was a bit sparse, not everyone likes Campari or Gin cocktails and that was all the menu had. They couldn't make a simple French Martini as the didn't stock Chambord which is apparently something to do with the bar licence. I think they could do a little better on that side of things and offer a better range of cocktails.
Food was delicious. We had the beef tacos and quinoa salad. Very pricey for what you get and service was unbelievably poor. Very inattentive and not overly friendly. That being said, we had a cocktail in the bar area afterward and the staff were amazing.
If price came down and offered proper table service I would highly recommend
Had been to the same venue previously for a meal over a year ago and had memories of amazing food, unfortunately things have changed and the food wasn't as good. Fantastic atmosphere and cool vibe but no wow-factor to the food for me. Tried the nachos, bao, tacos and the wontons and they were good but not as good as I hoped.
We really enjoyed our meal. The Pisco Sours were one of the best we've tasted since visiting South America. The ceviche was made with Pearl flesh and was outstanding. The food is much spicier than traditional South American but for me only enhanced the taste. Service was top class which always adds to the experience
Octopus was over cooked/burnt which in turn was bitter. The lemon in the ceviche over powered the entire dish, and tastes of bottled lemon juice not fresh. The goats cheese wontons were soggy and not at all appetising. And service was lacking even though numbers were low. There was a girl towards the end of our dining, that somewhat made up for the experience.
We came to Don Tapa to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and what a special occasion it was. We opted for the tasting menu, and with a couple of special requirements (I'm pregnant and my husband doesn't like seafood) the chefs were happy to accommodate us and the food was absolutely outstanding. So flavourful and delicious, we were very impressed, and left feeling very satisfied with the selection of food we'd tried.
The waitress looking after us was excellent. Making sure that I was comfortable with a table outside (it had been a 40 degree day), letting us sample a couple of beers before deciding on one, keeping us topped up with water and being very knowledgeable about the menu. While never being over the top or making us feel rushed.
We will absolutely be recommending Don Tapa to everyone we know. For a casual restaurant with delicious food you'd be hard up finding anywhere in Perth that beats Don Tapa.
Me and my partner had a lovely meal there a few nights ago, we ordered 4 dishes in total between the two of us. The duck taco, ceviche, and chicken bao were lovely and could not fault them, however for the fourth dish we ordered the pork belly and scallops for $32... Hate to say but I found that this was not worth the $32, there were 3 pieces of pork belly that were about 1 inch thick. The pork was chewy and the scallops were unfortunately overcooked. This was the only disappointing part of the meal. Will definitely return again just maybe won't order the last dish!
