Don Chente Bar & Grill
A modern twist to authentic Mexican Cuisine.
Overall service and food was great!
I made a reservation via Open Table for a party of 10 at least two weeks before Mother’s Day. When we arrived I was told there was no reservation on record. When I showed them the reservation on my phone, I was told the manager had decided NOT TO HONOR ANY RESERVATIONS because it was Mother’s Day. Just like that. The weirdest part is the restaurant was half empty, so I have no idea why they wouldn’t honor it. It took about 15 minutes for them to set up our table, and they seated us as walk-ins. Food was okay, my cocktail (the Diabla margarita) was fabulous. Our server seemed overwhelmed but seemed to be trying, at least. Overall, this place has some bumps to work through.
They just opened. They are short staffed and need to get up to speed with thier operation. We went the have a pre mother's day dinner on a Friday night and had reservations at 6:45pm. We didn't get approached by a server at our table until 25 minutes passed while sitting st our table. I had to speak to 3 different servers/ assistant managers to get attention. The food was okay. The drinks were good. The rice on my wifes plate tasted horrible. They brought a side dish of rice after we mentioned the issue and it tasted the same. Must have been a bad batch. We'll give this place a 2nd chance after a couple of month and hopefully our 2nd visit is different.
First of the place is small. Limited seating
We made reservations and had no tables available even though we specified NO HIGH tables we had to wait for regular table. The service was super slow
Drinks are terrible. Food was fast but COLD. Ordered a chicken fajita and it was terrible cold and no flavor. Overpriced for NON quality food. Also Don chente is s Mexican restaurant play Mexican music. Overall I will NOT b visiting Don Chente Pico Rivera again.
Very disappointed with the food and the price we paid. Besides that we waited more more then 40mins for our food maybe 1hr and the place was empty so it wasn't because it was crowded. Food was HORRIBLE not worth the price. Will not return.
The place was having a soft open, so full menu wasn’t available. Waitress wasn’t attentive, every time we wanted something we had to flag her down if she was in the area.
Unfortunately, this place did not meet my expectations. While the ambiance is great, everything else fell short. It took at least 20-25/30 minutes just to get drinks from a bar that was not even busy. The food took nearly an hour to come out and when it did, it was just ok. The food is more Mexican fusion than your traditional Mexican food which would normally be ok if one, it was delicious and two, if Pico Rivera was the place to present that type of food, but it’s not.
I feel that this place has failed to understand their demographic and will likely be out of business quicker than they started if they don’t make some serious adjustments.
