About Dinner by Heston Blumenthal - Crown Melbourne
Inspired by 15th century manuscripts, to the fanciful dramatic dishes of the Royal courts of King Henry the VII, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal offers diners a very modern interpretation of historic British gastronomy.
What started as an exercise in curiosity by Heston Blumenthal, has resulted in almost 20 years of research and discovery. Alongside Ashley Palmer-Watts, the two chefs created a menu inspired by the tastes and flavours of Britain, from the farmers plate to the royal courts, offering a contemporary gastronomic insight from Medieval c.1300 to Victorian c.1800.

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal - Crown Melbourne Ratings and Reviews
We started with cocktails which I have to say we found very disappointing, especially at $26 a pop. Very small and rather boringly presented. Would suggest not bothering and move straight on to wine.Thereafter things stepped up a couple of gears and the food was excellent. The Tipsy Cake is great but when it arrived I was at a loss to understand why you have to pre-order it, running the risk that you may actually not want it by the team you have had a starter and main.
All dishes were well cooked an presented, but we expected to be overwhelmed with sophistication and originality for which Heston is famous for, and this didn't happen. We found each dish to be on the safe side, some quite unimpressive. In that context the dinner was overpriced. You can experience similar quality of food for 1/2 of the cost.
WOW! What an awesome experience! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were well looked after. The staff were friendly, very knowledgeable and accommodating with any request. The food was amazing - every mouthful had a burst of wonderful flavors. Can't wait to go again.
In all the general yumminess, the food I will remember till my dying day was the bread at the start. To crunch that crust up so brilliantly, while keeping the inside cotton-soft was genius. I could have had that, with your butter, as my whole meal! Childhood memories of "good bread."
My boyfriend and I had the 5-course set lunch ($160pp), a tasting menu that gives the diner an idea of what Heston is all about. Each dish on the menu has a year attached to it, representing Heston's inspiration and the story behind his creation.
4 of the 5 dishes on the set lunch are fixed, with a choice of lamb or fish for the main. Every dish was beautifully presented and an adventure of discovery in itself.
Dinner by Heston is an experience - there's no other way to describe it.
We’ve both wanted to go to Dinner by Heston for a long time, and we were not disappointed. The food was filling and full of flavour. There were some interesting combinations that I have never tried before; such as the vegemite dessert with sweet elements and lovely crunchy textures that are delicious all together and challenge your palate on what dessert traditionally tastes like and consists of.
The service was above and beyond anything I have experienced before and did not disappoint.
Excellent food but the bar area was busy and a little cramped but this was a Friday in December. Excellent wine list but poor cocktails in the bar. Three of us were dining all chose different cocktails and all disappointed. All chose different dishes from the menu and everyone pleased with their choices.
Dinner by Heston is truly a food experience. From the moment you get there you are looked after by the most attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Michelle and Michaela were absolutely amazing and made our night very special. Great ambience, spectacular views, great wine list but most of all the food.. Oh the food is just to die for. Heston truly creates magic with flavours! All in all a very special day turned into a very memorable experience thanks to Heston's food and his amazing staff.
My rating is an 8 out of 10 overall for the experience of dining at Dinner by Heston.
The staff were all first class, very attentive, happy and eager to please.
Entrée and desserts were awesome, and because it was our 21st wedding anniversary, we were given a lovely little gift of a specially created chocolate mousse dish with happy anniversary written in chocolate on both of our plates.
Sadly, the meat we chose (Bone in Rib of Angus for 2) was very chewy. For $185 I expected better
Having heard from other family members about the excellent experience does set up high expectations.
It must be a hard job preparing for the arrival of guests, preparing the extensive list ingredients that make up each dish, cooking and serving. Yet it seemed so effortlessly easy. We spent three hours eating drinking and enjoying the whole experience! I cannot find enough words to describe how much we enjoyed every bite! All I can say is that we're looking forward to returning soon!
Our group had been looking forward to eating at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and from the moment we entered, we weren't disappointed. Professional and friendly wait staff who amazed us with their knowledge of the choices on offer - down to individual elements of each dish. The sommelier was extremely knowledgeable about the available wines and the whole meal was indeed a true event. How refreshing to go to fine dining restaurant and actually have a fine dining experience.
Food was good but not the best I've ever had. Sommelier didn't really do a great job I'm used to a good Sommelier introducing themselves, talking about the wines and the regions, making suggestions to match wine with food and this didn't happen. For the price I expected more.
I am lucky enough that this visit was a repeat visit fore me, and yet I am still extremely happy with food and service. On this visit I took someone who had never been before as their Christmas present. I am pleased to say that she was over joyed at the visit. The food, wine and staff is absolutely fabulous. I admit this is not a cheap restaurant, but it is worth every penny. So, if you are looking for a total dining experience this is the place.
Thank you for making our evening very Special last Friday night. We were celebrating our son's graduation to become a doctor and the evening did not disappoint. Food, ambience, staff were all outstanding. Such a beautiful venue supplemented by excellent food and staff.
The little Congratulations message presented with the chocolate pot at the end of thhe evening was very much appreciated by my son.
It was worth the wait,
Heston must be very proud of his restaurant and represented by his staff!
Definitely worth a shot if you want to do a super special occasion with a special someone, although super tempting, not really worth going a second time for a few years for us. each meal is about the price i'd pay for my whole dinner experience at any other restaurant.
SOME absolute stand out dishes that just give you that WOW factor. others need a little tweaking, however no bad dishes per-say. don't try the wagu. too rich for us to even share approx 1/2 fat pockets
This is an exceptional restaurant. The staff were impressive. It is truly a special occasion event. Wine list is more expensive than it needs to be. For such a fine dining it was disappointing to see the continual use of phones by patrons - this I think borders on rudeness to the staff and the restaurant. I would have liked to experience more of Heston’s uniqueness on the menu. We particularly enjoyed the mandarin chicken liver parfait and boiled egg dessert for that reason.
One of the best dining experiences I have had so far. Food portions are perfect for a three course meal. Everything was elegant and had a story but not overly pretentious. Highly recommend to those who are looking for a quality dining experience and for special occasions.
The whole dining experience was exceptional. The best of the best service, food quality was amazing and absolutely great atmosphere. Everything we had was delicious. I am not a big fan of Roast Lamb and Venison however my friends loved it.
Meat Fruit, Pork Belly & Goat milk cheesecake were my personal favourites.
We had a Saturday birthday lunch at Heston’s and it was great - service amazing and food was a real treat! Three of us Gluten Free - we had the set menu and they made alterations to suit or dietary requirements and the change was indiscernible from the non-gluten free version!
Everyone had a great time - was gorgeous during the day but views would be breathtaking at night!
Loved the experience - can’t wait to go back!!
Dinner did not disappoint. Genius food, amazing flavor and exceptional service. A heart felt thank you to the many people who helped make our meal a memorable experience. Dinner is now our 2nd best restaurant in the world, second only to Alain Ducasse @ St Regis Hotel NYC in 2012. I hope it stays in Melbourne forever. We will be back!
Overpriced. Food underrepresented. $84 for a pub style steak. Took too long to get mains out and ended up being kicked off our table before dessert despite being told at the start it was 3 courses. Tying in food with historical references felt more like a gimmick than anything
