Dinner by Heston Blumenthal - Crown Melbourne
Was my second time here. Nice tasting menu and drinks. The service was excellent however no points for failing to do anything for my birthday except 3 different wait staff wishing me birthday at the start of the evening. Did not expect that a restaurant of this calibre would completely fail to do at least one of the following: giving a card/decorating a plate/presenting a special dessert/making a drink. Would have chosen a different restaurant had I known as obviously not for special occasions.
We were not overly impressed. Thought dining at Heston’s would be a theatrical experience of the senses rather than a heavy rich filled disgustation without much wow factor
It was catching up with my best girlfriend on this occasion and we could not have been better looked after. The atmosphere was refined but relaxed with our waiters always keen to have a laugh and make us feel at home. Could not have asked for a better night!!
Next to the genius that is Heston. The staff not only delivered near perfect service but it was our pleasure to connect with them on a personal level which made us feel like we were sharing the meal together. Brava Michela Sirigu and colleagues.
Disappointed after they changed from A La Carte to degustation only. Menu is boring and ingredients don’t justify the cost. There’re better degustation fine dining elsewhere.
Excellent food and excellent service, I don’t believe that either could have been better in any way
I left somewhat disappointed. A dinner for two people for $1000 should be memorable. It wasnt.
The food was quite good, but didnt feel as though it was worth what we paid for.
Felt quite rushed through.
We arrived 25 minutes before our booking time so we could sit at the bar and have a pre dinner drink. We were told the bar was full but we could have them at our table. Food started coming out straight away. Table was against the window but was positioned between two pillars. Limited any views we
Absolutely fabulous culinary experience in the most exquisite of surroundings.
The experience starts with what can only be described as an enigma ... the walk up a shallow dimly lit corridor with no immediate observable entrance ... and then the wall opens up automatically to the view of a busy kitchen behind a semi glazed wall; and then the first view of the restaurant and it’s incredible scenic view over the Melbourne waterfront!
Everything is deliberate and just so ...
The service personnel couldn't have been better. One of our party not so good with garlic and they looked after her extremely well. Meant making several of her degustation courses different to the others in our party. Plenty of service people around, great little chat each time they came to our table. A lovely dining experience.
My expectations were exceeded;
The service staff went above and beyond on every aspect of the evening.
The service itself was impeccable with not a single moment forgotten about.
In regards to the food itself it was perfection, every element was very well executed and worked harmoniously with each other:
The wine pairings were amazing and elevated the dishes even further, I highly suggest the sommelier selected list.
I look forward to visiting again.
We had a lovely 2 1/2 hours of a culinary experience.
The staff for wonderful and the history of each dish was very enlightening.
Amazing food and service as expected with a fantastic wine selection, with the degustation menu changing every three months I will definitely be back .
The experience was second to none! Staff were attentive and friendly! Food on the whole was amazing! Loved it!
The foods are amazing and really delicious, the customer services is one of the best. Extensive wine list with very knowledgeable stuffs. Staffs are very attentive but not too much, they are happy to make any changes to suit the customer. Overall is a very welcome and relaxing environment to enjoy.
Course pacing was great and each course complimented the next. Front of house were attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Food did not disappoint. Highly recommend!
Amazing experience dining in a Heston restaurant! Food was delicious and great variation. Service was impeccable and attention to detail was amazing.
Incredible food and very impressive staff. Friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Made to feel welcome and special from the moment we arrived through till the end of the evening. Made a special occasion all the more enjoyable.
Absolutely stunning restaurant, with beyond outstanding service. Although we were expecting theatrical, being Heston, the food was out of this world.
Very friendly helpful and inviting staff. The food was amazing and the wine matching was spectacular. Definitely must experience this at least once in your life
We recieved a gift voucher for this restaurant so we thought we would give it a try. The staff service was brilliant, the view was really lovely. The food though was nice, it wasn't spectacular, it wasn't brilliant or amazing, it was nice. Neither myself nor my wife were wowed or blown away by this "experience" at all. It is not worth 295 dollars per person at all. Would not reccommend at all and I feel like we were robbed of not only our money but our time.
Had dined before at Heston's prior to degustation and found the experience amazing. Unfortunately on this occasion the degustation menu did not provide the same experience.
Absolutely amazing! Thank you to all serving staff as well as those in the kitchen preparing the wonderful food.
I honestly dont have much to say because it was such an incredible experience, the best restaurant I have ever been to, the best fine dining experience I have ever had... staff were so friendly we can honestly be friends! Food was the most amazing thing I've seen, would have loved more of the gastronomy dishes Heston is famous for but this place matches the food experience Crown offer
Everything is very nice but expensive so not somewhere you would go very often.
This is the first time we had the degustation menu at Dinner. It certainly didn't disappoint us in any way!
It was an amazing experience. Each dish in the degustation menu was prepared with care, was attractive and had carefully considered combinations of flavours that provided a taste explosion. The wait staff were attentive to our needs and were very knowledgeable about each dish and it’s origins. Effort was made to cater for individual tastes and allergies. I was contacted several times prior to our visit to ensure they had all our dietary information.
Wonderful night out. Staff were very friendly & knowledgeable. Food was exquisite. Highly recommend.
From the moment my partner and I walked into the restaurant the ambience of the restaurant and the welcoming of the staff was lovely.
The table we enjoyed our amazing food and drinks had such breath taking views. Our tastes buds hit it off from the first bite, recommendations on the drinks that accompanied the food was spot on. The drinks through the nite we’re of a high quality. The staff attention to detail was impressive. Our HB message specially written on our dessert plate was sweet.
Great service and exceptional food. However the set menu was very heavy, each dish competing. The ambiance was basic, no tablecloths, simple napkin and glass, no background music. Whilst I expect this is to push focus on the food, the result was that the food wasn’t presented with a fine dining ambiance.
After the meal my impression was that the whole experience was over controlled and forced. Driven by a tight set menu and wine matching. Result is that we loved some dishes and hated others.
It was a fantastic evening celebrating my wife's birthday, made all the more special by the members of Dinner by Heston.
Beautiful restaurant, attentive service, very fine food, but not the "WOW" inventive and engaging experience we expected from the Heston brand having followed his work for years.
Dinner was simply the best dining experience we have ever had.
My fiancée and I arrived and immediately we were greeted by the warm friendly staff. Each and every member of the team who interacted with us for the night congratulated us on our anniversary. The wine that was selected for us was amazing and the food, while sometimes out there was amazing. The 10 courses were unique and well prepared. The special chocolate mandarin cake they made to help us celebrate on a night was to die for.
What a wonderful experience, from the moment we walked up the dark corridor to the moment we walked down it to leave the service was outstanding. They made us feel welcome & comfortable straight away. All staff were incredibly well educated on all aspects of the food and beverages on offer. The food was out of this world good & the wine pairing complimented perfectly. Cant wait to return!
We had an outstanding meal served at a good rate by impeccable sraff. Bare tables are set with quality cutlery, crockery and glassware. You can't get better than Zalto. I could have done with a considerably larger main course but the quality could not be faulted. Duck was perfectly cooked with an interesting sauce. Groper was extremly moist and surprisingly delicate. The menu has barely changed in yeaes and no reason why it should.
Wunes are very expensive but cocktails ($16) are reasonable
It was a wonderful experience, the service was outstanding. The degustation menu the amount that the diner is expected to pay $295.00 per person is worth the price. The ingredients and the origin of all the dishes, but, without a menu present, (which we had to wait at the completion of the degustation), you could not remember what you were eating. Please bring back the a la carte menu, so the diner has a choice of dishes. There is pressure on the diner to finish off the meals due of the price.
Expected more to be honest. Didn’t live up to the reputation of Heston. Wanted more drama and story interwoven with the meal. Hugely over priced compared to other fine dining restaurants in Melbourne.
Fantastic experience. Thank you Heston for bringing the mediaeval cuisine to our table through your modern day creativity.
Terrible. Heston’s for Dinner has lost the plot. The old ala carte menu was great. Now they have degustation only, presumably as a cost cutting measure. The oyster was not fresh. The food was confused and generic. The old menu was vibrant, and coherent. The taste of pre prep is hard to ignore now. The waiting staff gear is bad, rolled collars, cheap shirts. I remember the uniforms at least looking like they were bespoke from Zegna previously. I won’t be back. Which is a shame.
I chose this place out of all the other best restaurants in Melbourne to celebrate my husband's birthday as some family members recommended this. I specifically made a special request when booking that I would appreciate if my husband could get a dessert or cake with "Happy Birthday" on it. This is not a big deal as I have had such experiences previously from other fine dining places. It's a shame that this request was neglected. Food was too salty with strong flavours.
A wonderous experience filled with delightful surprises. Staff were extremely attentive and genuinely enthusiastic at explaining all aspects of the food and wine.
The food was excellent, as was the service. The question that remains is, was it worth $300+? Fans of Heston would be familiar with some of the dishes and the use of old recipes is quite interesting. While the preparation and cooking techniques are no doubt intricate, it doesn't have any of the "wow" factor of his original Fat Duck menu, such as snail porridge or bacon and egg icecream. The main meal protein portion size is roughly the same as two fingers of kit-kat. Disappointing for the price.
