Once again a fantastic dining experience with exceptional service.
The food was perfectly cooked and presented , set in a lovely restaurant and a great view. Nothing was to much trouble for the waiters and you are treated like VIP's.
Would highly recommend to anybody who enjoys fine dining.
Good food and friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyable
Poor service and food cold and unappetising.
Unsympathetic to complaints of problems with food.
Not good value for money.
We had a large table for 8 adults, service and food were very good. We were celebrating a birthday, and it met our needs well, all with a view of the Minster from our table!
We ate at DCH on the 28th December and the food was exceptional, the Ale was pretty spot on but the service was pretty average. I am not sure if something went wrong between Opentable and DCH but our resevervation was foreign to them when we arrived, considering they were hosting a wedding reception at the time they did well to get us seated so quick.
Fantastic from start to finish. Service was attentive and friendly yet not rushed and not on top of you, the wine was lovely, a good range to choose from and I could not pick fault with the food, everything was cooked perfectly! A beautiful view of york minster, would definitely recommend this restaurant
Absolutely delicious food, lovely location and excellent service! Couldn't fault it
The piece of roast was overdone shoe leather. Potatoes were like rocks, vegetables mush, and the Yorshire pudding was burnt on the bottom and could not be cut it was so hard. The gravy was burnt. I was not asked how I wanted my beef. And the 1/2 pint of ale was very warm. I should have sent it all back but didn't. Lesson learned.
Very mixed feelings about my experience. I booked for Valentine's dinner at 5.45. I was told that there was a set 6 course menu at £35 for Valentine's Day which sounded good. On arrival I found that only the lunch menu was being served (until 6pm!). Fish and chips was not exactly what I had in mind for the evening... I explained that I had booked on the understanding that there was a set menu and was simply told that it wasn't available. I said that was unacceptable and was again told that I would have to order from the lunch menu. It was 5.45 at this point and we had already taken a drink at the bar. I refused to accept this so the lady went away for ten minutes before coming back to explain that she could not do anything! I again said this was unacceptable so she went away again. A manager then returned and stated the same thing. I AGAIN said that this was unacceptable so he went to talk to the kitchen. Again. Lo and behold, he came back a minute later to say it was fine and that we could order from the Valentine's menu. He was apologetic of course. Very strange way to deal with things, especially on Valentine's Day.
Service thereafter was good at the table and the food was very good value, interesting and tasty. We had a table looking out on The Minster. The six courses were of high quality and showed a fair bit of skill. Salmon mousse and tempura oyster was a highlight. We had a good meal in the end but I was very surprised that a) they dealt with it so poorly to begin with b) I was not offered any sort of concession to compensate for the mix up, especially given the fact it was Valentine's Day.
We didn't let it rankle - no point in letting spilt milk spoil an evening. Just a bit strange looking back on it.
After a long day at the LibDem conference in beautiful York a group of a dozen of us had dinner at DCH in their private room off the main restaurant. The set menu offered a good choice with very good quality food and good service. The sea bass was particularly good and our veggies had a good choice mainly from the a la carte menu. Several wines were very reasonably priced and a good choice on the list. We had drinks in the friendly small bar beforehand, overall a very good dining experience and we shall come back next time we are in York!
Amazing food amazing staff loved the food and the whole experience .
Felt special some of the food choice was something I wouldn't usually go for it the food was lovely had some fillet steak as a main that was outstanding ! I loved it here and will
Be going back . The staff are lovely the whole experience made me feel like a princess
Attentive and friendly service, seasonal and locally sourced menu selections and a great view ( albeit through small historic windows), of the Minster make DCH a great dining destination in York.
We had booked dinner as part of a deal with the hotel. We had therefore expected it to be a set menu, so we're very pleased when we were told we could choose 3 courses from the whole of the menu. The food and wine were lovely. We also had breakfast the following day, where we could also order anything from the menu, including a full English.
Very well situated restaurant in the centre of York. Varied and interesting menu. Good wine list at all price levels. Very friendly and attentive service. Not cheap but still good value.
Not an everyday place but perfect for a special occasion
Lovely venue and views with very attentive staff and interesting menu. Light spacious high ceilinged dining room. We dined on a Monday night so there were lots of empty tables which lowered an otherwise excellent ambience. No problem when we presented a tourist booklet's discount voucher at the end either! About £100 for two with bottle of wine and three courses.
We had a two course meal on a Saturday evening. They seemed rushed to seat us, and then did not even get our drink order correct. Food was nothing to shout about and the waiters may have been aware of this since they did not even ask if we enjoyed the meal - or perhaps they did not care...?
To end, I was asked to fetch my own coat from the coat hooks at the end of the meal. We will not be going back.
DCH is always good, the service is first class. If you can ask for table 9 which overlooks York Minster. Worth booking ahead of time as it sells out on most days.
I attended this venue for my birthday, unfortunately I was not impressed. The restaurant had no character or warmth about it as the air con was pumping out despite the inclement weather that night. Only 2 other couples were dining, making the restaurant empty and completely lacking in atmosphere. Our starters arrived, pretty on the plate but not much of it. The main dish was small by design and substance although nice to eat. I enjoyed the 1 scallop and 2 prawns as part of the fish dish but the rest of the fish was minute in size. The total bill to include 1 glass of wine and beer was near £100 pound sterling. To sum up a very expensive meal with little to show for our money. Please think long and hard before booking this venue.
First meal at DCH in York and I would definitely go back. Previous reviews indicated that this was a good venue, but I was a bit sceptical as it is a hotel restaurant. However, it exceeded expectations.
DCH by the Minster in York was an excellent dining experience. The service was balanced and attentive but friendly and the food was very good indeed - quite a surprise for a hotel restaurant. A real find, if in York we would certainly go back. I reccommend without hesitation.
The DCH restaurant in York is part of the Dean Court Hotel situated just across from the Minster. The restaurant itself is modern with a very pleasant ambience. The menu was varied and interesting and should suit most tastes with the food beautifully cooked and presented. Good wine list with a sensible range of prices i.e. good quality wines at under £20 a bottle up to fine wines at appropriate prices.
Service was excellent across the board, with just the right amount of attention.
Dean Court Hotel, York.
Great location opposite the Church. We got a bay window seat, which was great. We could not book dinner earlier than 7pm, which was frustrating.
The food was really good and seasonal. There was a different person for each role. So one for bread, one for wine and one to collect plates, etc. I didn't like this.
Little day trip in York and saw the offer on totable for DCH. Very nice restaurant with a decent price tag. Service is extremely good and the food is top notch. We shared a scallop with crab toterlinni and the scallop is very fresh. It is a pity they only serve sirloin instead of fillet but the steak was good enough. the special of the day with lamb rump is succulent and the pork on the menu is amazing. Would definitely visit again when I am in the area.
Excellent service at DCH - the flavours of the food were delicious. Only complaint was that some parts of each dish came out lukewarm. We told the staff this, they were most apologetic and brought us a complimentary glass of champagne. Can't praise the staff highly enough.
We enjoyed an excellent meal in DCH. We were not at all made to feel uncomfortable by any of the staff, as has been mentioned in previous reviews. The food and service were exceptional. We took advantage of the 25% off the al a carte menu which was well worth doing. Would definitely revisit when we return to York.
DCH restaurant - in Dean Court Hotel, York was a lovely dining experience. The staff were very attentive, friendly and professional, serving the tables in an efficient and unobtrusive way.
The food was well-cooked and creative. We had a special deal of 25% off through Top Table which made this meal very good value.
I would go again.
the dean court hotel york,
We went for lunch in the bistro two course for £10 this was a very good deal the burger alone should have been £12.
It was home made not cheap bought in frozen rubbish.
Would go back again.
The meal was great -- and the service was excellent at the Dean Court Hotel in York.
a friend and i had dinner at the dean court hotel service was good food good, but there could have been a bit more, small portions!!
Dean Court Hotel - DCH - York.
A special lunch for a birthday party and it well lived up to expectations. Courteous attentive staff - without too much fussing - and excellent food. All 9 people in our party were really impressed.
It was a Friday evening, so that probably explained the lack of other diners, and the reason we had 3 staff serving us. The food in the DCH in York was modern, stylish, very tasty and presented on a variety of interesting plates, including pieces of slate. We had an excellent view of York Minster from our table, and we'll look forward to eating there again when we next visit York.
Booked last minute as it was Bank Holiday weekend and our hotel restaurant was fully booked. Got 25% off deal which was fab. Food was all brilliant, scallops and cheese soufle were particularly good. Service was brilliant, waitress was really knowledgeable and manager was great when I complained about my tortellini being undercooked. Would definitely return and probably stay at DCH as the staff were so nice compared to The Royal.
We visited DCH (Dean Court Hotel) York for Sunday lunch and were pleased with all aspects of the visit. The staff were freiendly and attentive the sevice was excellent and the food of a high standard. The toilets were clean and well provided. All in all a very pleasant meal.
fabulous location overlooking York Minster, especially lovely in snow and ice. The Dean Court Hotel offers superb food beautifully presented by excellent staff. Thoroughly recommended as outstanding value
Dean Court Hotel - York waited ten minutes for a bottle of wine, my starter was lovely but main meal served luke warm.
Saturday Lunch (09/10/10), Restaurant - We have always rated DCH very very highly, however the music in the Restaurant apparently is the same in BOTH the Bistro & Restaurant & what was playing we felt was TOTALLY unsuitable for a relaxing environment & experience & so spoilt our overall enjoyment.
The carpet beneath our table was also thread bear (not what you'd expect in a quality establishment). Starters as usual were superb but the mains this time around lacked the "finess" of the starters.
DCH York - good food, excellent views of York Minster if you can bag a window table. Cote de Boeuf highly recommended, as is the cheese board - although the selection on the night we visited was a little pedestrian. Staff were very eager to please. Atmosphere a little low key on a Sunday evening - and be warned, the kitchen closes early!
DCH in York has a nice location opposite the Minster, and we had an excellent view from our bay window table. It was a little quiet but it was a Monday evening. The a la carte menu was varied and interesting. We went for the scallops, followed by the cote de boeuf for two - both were excellently cooked, presented and served. We were tempted by the desserts but didn't have room! A very good wine list, including some interesting half bottles and an unusually good selection of wines by the glass.
a real undiscovered gem in York. Really really good food, well cooked and presented in a nice location with good views over the Minster.
DCH is rated 4.3 stars by 136 OpenTable diners.
