David's Restaurant, in Prahran, crafts delectable contemporary Shanghai-style Chinese cuisine with knowhow and passion in its friendly and charming eatery. The Shanghai pan-fried spring onion pancakes and the tender prawn and chopped chive dumplings make for superb starters. Some of David's Restaurant's specialty larger dishes include the spicy white cut chicken with peanuts and sesame in a chili sauce, the chunky barramundi fillets in spicy black bean paste with fried potatoes and the crispy fried iron Buddha beef served atop fragrant tea leaves, all of which are delicately seasoned. Noodle and rice dishes, such as the fat Shanghai noodles with pork and vinegar and Auntie's fried rice with sausage and egg, are other diner favorites. The white chocolate dumplings with praline is a perfect dessert.
David's Restaurant also has a full gluten-free menu, as well as being one of the best Yum Cha destinations in Melbourne.
The food was nice san choi bow and spring rolls were only luke warm not a great vegetarian fan. Its our 3rd time and would not hurry back
The classic yum cha experience was delicious, great selection of food. customer service was outstanding.
Great lunch with friends. Attentive service. Super fresh and well cooked food. Can't wait for another Saturday session at Davids!
Was amazing thank you for the beautiful evening and service! The food was great and staff so friendly.
Amazing service and amazing food! Very well priced vegan yum cha banquet and every dish was delicious. Will visit again!
One of my favourite
Yum cha places all you can eat on the weekends
The vegan degustation was amazing and the playlist was awesome! Thank you!
Quality of food was really poor, no really flavour in the dishes that had rice, they tasted the same as uncle bens microwave packs.
The dumpling options tasted the same as costco packs you can buy. Definitely not worth the $45 per head
We experienced Davids Spicy Yum Cha dinner last Thursday evening. I have been a fan of Davids since the beginning and I must say that this dinner did not let us down. It consisted of a series of small plates with various dumplings, bao, and small plates of spicy food (Kung Pao Chicken for one). Even though there were about 8 or 9 dishes, they were not too big so we finished them all ending up with a comfortable fullness. I can heartily recommend this evening if you are a fan of spicy Chinese food. Excellent.
Amazing food!!!!! Loved all the dishes and had a perfect amount of everything. Great value for money! Staff were so accommodating and lovely. Great atmosphere. I’ll be back and I’ll be recommending to everyone :)
Staff are very accommodating. Good food. Definitely can recommend to others.
Yum Cha at David’s is fantastic. The food is generous and delicious and the staff are so helpful and accommodating. Could not rate this place more. The ambiance is all decadence with a twist of comfort. The pork buns and fried chicken ribs are to die for. Cocktails are light and fresh.
Loved it. It was our first time here and it was worth it. Everything was fantastic 🙂 we are coming back again for sure.
I went for the weekend Yum-Cha with a girl friend and it was exceptional!
First the staff was very friendly and explained what was needed. The place looks amazing with a lot of attention to details in the decoration but also in how the tables are set.
Then the food... started with a pork bun, delicious, followed with some spring rolls and a San Choy bow, light but making room for what’s to come: a selection of steamed dumplings, the prawn and ginger was probably my favorite, fried calamari was delicious and then a piece of pork belly, melting in the mouth.. I think I’m forgetting things but I loved every single bite!
This was complemented with a delicious lychee drink (good price btw!) and then the dessert.. I’m usually not a big fan of Asian sweets but that was something!! I won’t say too much for a surprise to look for. Highly recommended!! PS: not low budget but well worth it.
Unfortunately the first sitting ran over so the second seating was rushed. Asked at least 4 times just for water. Food was rushed out and did not even receive some dishes.
Saying that the staff were lovely, just too busy and too rushed.
Always a winner here at David’s ... not cheap Chinese as they try to something special and most times get there. Unfortunately there dumplings were always awesome, now there is few on the new menu and are only average. BYO helps the bill at $12 a bottle ... it’s always a cut above the average Chinese.
The ultimate yum cha Saturday lunch! Great food, great service and BYO is a massive win!
Wonderful food. Excellent service. Very good contemporary decor.
Great food. Great service. Will definitely be back
Advertised as unlimited yum cha however . when we asked for more food there was not much left.
Everything was great except when the food comes out, we only designated 1 portion per person and if we ask for more of a particular dish because it is our favorite, staff is very reluctant to offer us. This time we did not get given extra of our fav dish at all. Staff said they would come back to offer us some, but they did not; providing that we actually did not take some of the dishes to compensate for the one we like more. However, it was not factored in and considered by staff. However, overall was good.
Thank you for the feedback KristyKC, we appreciate the honest feedback!
The food cam out so quickly we could have been in & out in 20mims!!! Not my idea of a relaxing Sunday morning Yum Cha! Half of it was cold, all of it was just pre made re heated up & started to taste the same.
The staff were nice & accommodating, the restaurant is pretty BUT THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE!
That was our first & last experience there & it’s a shame because it’s quite close to us....Freshly cooked & not re heated, rushed food would have made for a better first impression. A 11.30-1.30 sitting is plenty of time to get people in & out with rushing them & spoiling peoples morning, not to mention better food.
Too bad David’s is now off my list!
Yum cha that is well served, very nice flavours, outstanding variety, and we trust the food and cleanliness. The wine list has a good variety and the wait staff can answer questions on the spot. When we were hesitating which bottle of bubbles to buy, we were offered a taste of the one which was also available glass. The wait staff know their menu and wine well.
Great food and lots of it! I’ll definitely be back!
For Unlimited Yum Cha, there seem to be a lot of limits. We were only offered around 10 different savory dishes (no Peking duck pancakes & 1 serve of dumplings), & were left hungry. We we tried to order more savory, we could only get the dishes we had already had. Even with dessert we were offered 3 dishes (I only liked 2). Don’t get me wrong, the food we had was delicious but it didn’t feel like we got great value.
Love love love David's on every level, exceptional food and service and a divine interior, a total pleasure.
Overall, I was happy with my experience at David’s. I think some of the food was overpriced for the quality. The xialongbao and spring rolls were delicious, but probably didn’t justify the price. Our mains were excellent and the service was fantastic as well. Beautiful ambience.
We were quiet disappointed tbh . The service is really slow when it’s not even busy . The food is not amazing and eggplants is very undercooked . The food is over priced as well. It’s definitely not as good as it was . Probably won’t go again
The food was sensational but the number of staff to serve was not relative to number of patrons - particularly to manage drinks as well as food.
Food was very average-not worth the money. Dishes were bland
Food was good . Me and my son ordered the twin banquet $65 pp.
I was under the impression ‘each’ one of use would get seperate portion. I understand there was mention of ‘shared’ plate concepts but if that were so I would have expected more generous serving . Not twice as much ; perhaps 50% more.
No other quibble .
Beautiful experience as always. Delicious food and wonderful staff. It has changed a little from a traditional yum cha and I was a little disappointed that the raspberry and lime tea was not the same, but I always look forward to lunch at David’s!
Great food, great service
Every dish was exceptional. We couldn’t decide which we loved best. An instant favorite to return to for us.
Food was terrific, venue was very attractive, staff and service was patchy, sometimes excellent other times marching to the beat of their own drum, overall very enjoyable, we will be happy to return
David's has been a favourite and is local. We took a group of family members this week and were very disappointed that the style of the menu has changed. The main courses are no longer large dishes for sharing. The food is good but no longer exceptional. Perhaps the chef has changed?
Only concern was that the food in the banquet came out far too quickly. Other than that it was very good.
David's is a great place to celebrate with good food and service.
We use to go to David’s a lot. It was more an upmarket or premium yum cha. The offering was fantastic. Now it’s really lacking. There was nothing special.
Everything was outstanding! The service, the atmosphere, the food! Beautiful fresh Yum cha cuisine, plenty to eat! Whole family enjoyed it
