Went for brunch. Horrible lounge-style singer performing way too loudly in the bar area. Couldn’t hear a thing nor focus on conversation. Garden Mary was just bad - don’t know how to describe why, it just had bad, bitter flavor. Donuts were ok, but putting a tiny fortune in a donut is an objectively stupid idea. You end up breaking it completely apart so you don’t swallow a piece of paper (final insult - all the fortunes were the same!). Frittata had large raw chunks of squash and came with a bland, undressed plop of salad. The crab cake benedict didn’t come with an English muffin and was, oddly, covered in whole pretzel sticks, which made it hard to eat. You just smushed it when you tried to cut in. The setting is nice and the staff was courteous, but itcouldn’t make up for what was, overall, just an awful experience start to finish.

Disappointing experience. Food was nothing spectacular just average. Gnocchi was way too salty. Octopus was chewy. Coffee was lukewarm. Service is below par in comparison to other fine dining restaurants in NJ. Here's some tip for the waiters and waitresses, when someone orders a bottle of wine ask them to taste first before pouring everyone else.
Overall, I had such high expectations from the restaurant given that it's David Burke's afterall. Oh and did I mention that David was at the restaurant? Yes, he was and he was mingling with some customers. So disappointed.

Not worth the price; service staff while very nice couldn't keep up with the volume. Wrong food coming to wrong tables; We had dessert with our brussel sprouts still on the table. Food ranged from uninteresting and mediocre (oysters, kale salad, creme brulee) to quite good (lobster and bass specials). We chose this place for a special occasion (my husband's BD) and were hoping for a fabulous night. They missed his BD (despite my reservation request); we were initially seated in a casual lounge and had to ask to be moved to one of the dining rooms. While it's a fun place, it's loud and the service struggled. Just not worth the $. Better to come with a group of friends when you don't mind spending more than you should, and you want to see the building/grounds (which are fun to see at least once).

Lovely space and gracious service. The food was very very salty. We had to send 2 entrees back! And the ones we did not send back were also very salted. The waiter and the kitchen took the entrees back without question and made replacements, but it’s not the sort of food we would expect from David Burke and certainly not from a restaurant charging such high prices. Not sure we’d go back.

Our 2nd time here - to try the other dishes. And it did not disappoint. Begins with the bread which is made fresh daily on premise. Then the pretzel crab appetizer, the salmon carpaccio are both divine. The entrees, the cocktails, the desserts - each one presented with flair and this time the presentation lives up to its hype. This place is seriously not to be missed.

We loved our meal! Server was great. I would suggest two things. Some of the wines by the glass we would have liked to have purchased by the bottle. And two, We would have liked more tequila options at the bar. We love Don Julio Reposado and Anejo, but you didn’t offer it. Food was great.

The appetizers, entrees and cocktails were fantastic. Creative, tasty and beautifully presented. Worth the price. Our chocolate tin dessert turned to an overly sweet mush. Too much of a gimmick we couldn't really enjoy. Maybe we should know better than to try dessert after such wonderful apps and entrees.

The setting and dining rooms were beautiful. We will likely be back as it is in our backyard.

Service was spotty. The hostess never came back to tell us about oyster availability and the waiter didn't mention anything so our question did not get referred. Kid offered my wife more water but not me. Why? Other staff seemed timid too.

The chairs on the old porch became uncomfortable over time. Those in the other dining areas looked more substantial. The place was noisy.

But we will return.

Have been to the restaurant four times in the past six weeks. The staff is helpful and accommodating. The service was excellent. The meals are inventive, beautifully plated and delicious. All who have come with us have enjoyed the experience and stated they are coming back. BROVO

My husband and I returned this weekend and again were impressed. Great service, excellent wine & food....what more could you ask for? It’s a delight. We tried the lamb & veal milanese this time and loved both. We look forward to our next meal here!

Don’t put people in casual bar area for dinner. Especially on a valentine holiday. Had to wait an extra 20 minutes to get a table in the dining room. While waiting in the bar area no one approached us to offer a drink and had to flag someone down. Same problem getting the check for the bar, had to go to the bar to ask and was reprimanded for standing in an area “ for the servers only”. Finally was seated in the dining room and waitress was pleasant and attentive. Another point of disbelief was when someone cleared another nearby table and dropped a knife on the floor, at least 5 staff passed by that knife without picking it up. The last issue was when I asked for the check. After providing my credit card it took an inordinate amount of time for the waitress to bring it back. She finally came by and said that they had mistakenly given my check to another table who paid that bill and she needed to find her manager to correct the situation. Another delay of at least 10 minutes. Too many things that should not happen !

Valentines Day Dinner, decided to try the “David Burke Experince”
After dining at many excellent places in this areaI over the years, I can only say that this was one of the worst experiences I ever had.
We looked forward to this and from the moment we sat down and waited at least 10 minutes for someone to speak to us we knew this was a mistake. The next clue was when the waiter advised us that since this was a fixed menu we had to order everything
Including the dessert up front.
They had a few appys that were in addition to the price fix that we decided to try in addition to the ones included , but no one told us that they would all come out at once!! So the race was on !! That would have been OK IF ALL THE TABLES WERE FULL AND THEY NEEDED THE SPACE , BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASEHERE!
Once we let the waiter know how upset we we’re about this, he avoided us, like we had the corona virus!
I don’t mind but if your going out for a nice dinner for 2 on a special night and spending over $300. The experince should be WAY BETTER we know better and we won’t be fooled again,,

We've been to David Burke four times. On our last occasion, as always, we requested a "quiet table." When we were to be seated in the main dining room we were placed in the absolute center of the room. There was another empty table for four, against the window, right near where we were supposed to be seated, but were told that we could not have it. We were offered a table in the cafe which isn't quite as nice as the main room, but accepted it so that we might have a conversation.
The service was pleasant tho' obviously less trained waiters were serving there. They were unfamiliar with the ingredients in some of the dishes, but happily offered to find out. The service was poor, due to a table of 8, who were obviously more important than we were. They had two "almost full time" captains and were unbelievably noisy. Much attention was paid to them, to the detriment of our service. The experience was most disappointing, especially because we had had prior pleasant meals at David Burke.

My husband and I spontaneously came here on Friday...after a long day at work it was a perfect start to the weekend! We began with drinks at the bar & plan to return soon for drinks, since the bartender was lovely. My husband was thrilled to see Mr. Burke himself a few times during our visit! For starters we had the bacon & the tuna tacos - both were amazing. Entrees were spaghetti nero & the duck - again, both were superb. We finished our meal with the chocolate tin cake - very fun presentation and delicious too. I’m looking forward to my next meal here & highly suggest you try it soon! The service is excellent and the cuisine is just fantastic.

Best restaurant in South Orange. Not many people know it exists because located inside a tennis club, so getting a reservation is not as difficult as I thought. The restaurant was full on a Friday night though. We met David Burke himself as he made the rounds at his new restaurant to welcome the patrons. The cocktails are top-notch. Clothes line bacon is a must try. Will be coming back.

Everything was very good. Popovers were excellent. Place is beautiful. Service was good. Overuse of red pepper flakes though on the lobster dumplings which seemed a bit amateur for a chef at David Burke’s level. Dumplings were almost too hot to eat due to this which was disappointing but otherwise very good and we will be back.

The food was excellent. As a vegetarian sometimes I feel like our entrees are an afterthought. I had the ravioli with mushroom and the zucchini and cucumber noodles with pesto as an appetizer and it was incredible. Better than I expected. The waiter knew the menu and made excellent suggestions. I am definitely coming back with some friends.
